I recently started a new preservation-centric forum called AMPS: Analog Media Preservation Society.

It's unaffiliated with OT.com and meant to serve as a supplement rather than a replacement. At the risk of being redundant, I must state that AMPS is not intended to compete with OT.com or steal its members. I do know that OT.com has had some issues with members starting independent forums in the past, so I'm trying to do this as carefully as possible.

AMPS has special access controls in place that prevent bots and indexers from accessing the meat of the forum. Among other things, members are required to post a thread in the "Welcome Board" in order to even access any of the other categories or boards.

Thanks to these special access controls, AMPS allows members to post hyperlinks to downloads. Other goodies are planned for the future, but I won't discuss them here.

Yeah, I think it is removing a lot of clutter from the OT board, but still getting the info out there.

Glad you like the banner, poita. I had to pick Westworld as one of the titles; I love that movie!

ProBoards has suffered a minor database failure that resulted in the loss of several forums, including AMPS. We're working on restoring what we can from memory while waiting to hear back about ProBoards' backup(s). We're sorry for the inconvenience. We'll be back up as soon as possible!

ProBoards has no backups for us, unfortunately. We were too new to be entered into their backup cycle.

ww12345, thankfully, had been keeping a text file with all of the hyperlinks that people were posting, so we have that at least.

I managed to grab a copy of the Terms of Use/Rules from Google's cache of the Welcome Board.

That's about it. We're going to re-open tonight and start fresh. :-(

Too bad on the loss. A side-effect of a private board is that google cache is useless. :(

Hopefully boards.net allows board owners to do own backup to avoid future issues? I look forward to the fresh start!

I'd also been keeping some notes on things like cropping and stuff, but didn't think to do a real backup. We'll do what we can to get what we can remember back up...

Update: Many preservation projects are currently in-the-works.

We've managed to raise enough money for:

1. Disney's Alice in Wonderland on 35mm (IB Technicolor)

2. The Matrix on 35mm

We also have the following on our to-do list:

1. Disney's Song of the South on 16mm

2. Star Wars on Super8
