Great news!
Any separate thread on discussing them, or will you post here when they are available?

It'd be for Kerr to do, as all I'm doing is consulting and providing feedback. It's really a misnomer to call it an HD version of Sharkey's, though that's where it began.
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

If memory serves, Kerr's version doesn't cut back to Gandalf there and instead has two consecutive shots of the WK, making a jump cut. Neither is ideal.
Any ideas how you are going to tackle this scene?

Any plans on making a recut of the Hobbit?
i know it would be impossible to make a purist edition, but maybe someone with the knowhow could make better version at least? Things I really would like to see changed is the pointless "running around and and falling on top of each other" chases that seem to be a typical Jackson trademark (King Kong being the benchmark). The chase in the gigantic goblin caves, Mirkwood spiders, the barrel scene, and most of the fight with Smaug, including the gold dipping. Havn't seen the third movie, but I'm sure there's plenty of face palm moments there as well.
Re a purest version of the Hobbit I have seen a very good version someone over on fanedit.org is making. I have it on my dropbox so if you give me you email (by private message if you dont want it displayed publicly) I will send you a link.
This version is only up to the end of DoS Hobbit film and its a little rough, but its as close to a purest version as you can get right now.
Sure, I'd like to see it. I can pass it along to Kerr as well.
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
Enjoy I would like to know what Kerr thinks? The person who did it is apparently working on refining it, if/when they share me an updated version I will pass it on.
Very good. I think we're all on the same team, and want the best edits possible.
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
Yes I quite agree having the best edit possible is the aim.
Although with so many around and the Hobbit films not being out on DVD/BluRay long nothing is refined yet and its a case of picking the best bits from different edits, at the moment that is.
Here is the link to the existing Hobbit thread on OT:

Not really sure if this is the place to ask but does Kerr still plan on doing "Arkenstone Editions" of the other Hobbit films? I watched the first one with some friends and we all loved it. It was their first fanedit experience.
I do not know that. I would think so, but we haven't talked about it.
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
So this is an entirely seperate project then? Any updates on what you guys plan to do on the Hobbit side of things?
Hal 9000 will you be doing update of the edit using the extended cut blu rays of lord of the rings and color correcting them.
It's really Kerr's project, but it will definitely include some of both versions. It's been a little while since we've conversed, though. I'm as anxious to see the results as anyone.

I've been getting PMs on and off about this, so let me clarify a little. Kerr's newer LOTR project that I've been collaborating with him on has evolved quite a bit since it was first started. He's in the driver's seat, and I'm really just consulting is all. It's not going to be a "purist edit," per se, though I think it will still lean toward the books when doing so helps the films in and of themselves.
There's no real timeframe, though things are shaping up. It'll be a LOTR quadrilogy. It won't be strictly "purist," but I think it'll be a very decent way to watch a somewhat-reigned-in cut of PJ's version of things. The Hobbit will be most puristy, though that's more of a side effect of crunching it down to one film.

It's a shame that no one has done the red book edits as HD/Blue versions yet. If I ever get a chance I might do something close to them myself though.
Any update on this?
Also a question for anyone who knows. I’m not familiar with the books… did the books have so many fake deaths? That’s one thing (one of the few) that’s always bothered me about these movies. Fake deaths are fine when it’s dramatic and there’s a high chance of it being real or important to the story (Gandalf in Moria), but when Frodo is stabbed over and over, very bluntly by a giant troll, Gandalf flung up the entire height of a tower (actually he’s just flung up then appears on top)… it gets tiring and you start to not really care because you know they’re going to live. Or Aragorn falling off a cliff down the river. It’s just over the top.
Anyway, looking forward to this. I also would really enjoy a much shorter less over-the-top Hobbit so I’m looking forward to that part of it as well! Thanks!
It’s out of my hands, really. Kerr will deliver the quadrilogy… someday.
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
I gave up waiting and Im slowly working on my own version.
I realize this thread is a couple years old now, but for those that obtained all the Red Book edits, would any of you be willing to send me the files for books III-VI? All the old links are not being seeded anymore, or the links themselves are broken. If anyone is willing to do so, send the files to jacob.nathan.anderson@gmail.com

re Hal9000’s Kerr EE - Wonderful work!
What software do you use to edit mp4?
What software do you use to edit VFX? eg mounted Gandalf as Witchking flies off, removing Wormtongue from Orthanc? etc
Well, this project was completed over a decade ago, so I was using something called Womble MPEG editor and more or less following the ooold AdigitalMan guide around here. And I’m 99% sure I lifted that FX shot from Kerr’s old ‘book cuts.’
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
Is this HD version still being worked on?
No. My sensibilities about how to approach a LOTR edit has changed a great deal since 2008. I don’t really stand by this old project.
I’ve been happy the last couple years with my extended versions of Kerr’s yet-unreleased LOTR edits. If that’s not confusing enough, check a few pages back for info about that project.
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
So Kerr’s edits are still happening? Are they on hold cuz the state of the world? Are they still based of the older blu-ray or will they be the 4Ks now? Is there a place where I can better stay up to date on this? Sorry I’m new to all this. Thanks for your time!
