The internet is the primary means by which I have a social life.

If it gets controlled... IT MUST NOT BE CONTROLED. KILL THE BILL, SENATE!

So this means they support the telco's right to bill for faster service? What a load of shit.

Just this week, I received a reply letter to my complaint to Speaker Hastert. It was vague on where he, personally, stood. But, even if he was for it, it doesn't seem to have been enough.

Well, personally, I don't care. I'm going to keep frequenting the sites I always frequent. I don't give a shit about "preferred site status" or the like. I'll wait if I have to.

All I want to know is, which party voted more to NO.

Well, it dosen't matter where, democracy works, specially when the will of the people and freedom are thrown away for some money going into politicians pockets.

I want to applaude and congratulate the Corporate America here to give one step back, 15 years into the past, in global communications and freedom of expression. Kinda like China is doing, but merely for stupidity, greed and money.

Oh, wait, here are the numbers

Republican YES: 11 NO: 211 DID NOT VOTE: 8
Democratic YES:140 NO:58 DID NOT VOTE: 3
Independent YES: 1

Thank you republicans, for making the world a little bit worse, one action at a time.

But they could make the sites practically unusuable.

I don't give a rat's ass. If the site is worth visiting, I'll visit it. They can't block it out entirely or class-action lawsuits will ensue. And they will. I guarantee it. I'm not going to cater to my telco's pandering bullshit. I will go where I want, when I want.

Honestly, I don't think it's going to be as bad as people make out. What will wind up happening is that people will be calling customer support at their providers 24/7 and setting up service calls. These consistent calls are going to wind up costing the providers so much money that they will naturally phase out the source of the problem.

At an extreme... You want to know what this could result in? More competition for the telco's stranglehold on broadband access. If this causes enough of a headache, people will start to develop truly independent networks that will receive funding from some of these sites that are being misrepresented by the telcos. And you will have people sign up for service with them. If it gets bad, I'd do it.

Both parties do. The democrats at least sometimes try not to.

Please forgive me. I can't help myself.

Polititian? Is that the term for a woman with multiple breasts? Yowza!

But on topic. Doesn't the Senate still have to pass it?

I would totally vote against this and contact my congressman, but alas I am but a lowly 'permanent resident' with no voting rights.

The Republicans want to control our internet. The Democrats want to regulate our music and video games. Either way, we lose.

Yeah, Nanner's spot on. The only thing we can do is become Independent from both evil entities and be prepared to never be represented in anything...

The only reason Corporate America can do something like that is because the general american people seem not to care. If TV stations don't show massive people protesting, it dosen't matter, it's nothing really important, so they can get away with it. Also, I've been saying for ages that the two right wing political party system is failed.

- They show VERY little protests of ANY sort on television here in the USA anymore and our Government is forcing so called "FREE SPEECH ZONES" on protesters - Just last week when Mr. Bush was here in Albuquerque at the PIT they thought it best that the protestors (closer to 300+ in real life not the reported hundred or so) be located 2 miles away downtown! Any protestors that showed up at the Airport or at the PIT were arrested or relocted to a FREE SPEECH ZONE (NOT covered by the news, nor were the riot geared cops who were around the protest) BUT the protest did make local news for all of 30 seconds!

I had no idea. If you hand't told me the country, I would have thought this was on Cuba or Tianmen Square in China.

Ric, things are getting better every day here (depends on how you look at it I quess), I now have 10 friends/acquaintances who have been arrested for protesting here in Albuquerque and in Denver a few of whom were called terrorists by our local PD - since they had anti-war & Support Freedom signs and have all been added to a so called "Contact List" - a.k.a. - TALON as well as being photographed and video taped and this is all in the last year now.
