Idea: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind - Special DVD edition

I have an interesting idea. Why doesn’t someone do a fan-made DVD box set for Miyazaki’s masterpiece, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. The first disc could have the Disney dub, with a fan-based audio commentary, the second disc could have the infamous Warriors of the Wind 1985 dub, which could have an optional audio commentary on how the film was butchered and failed, and there could be one to two discs full of special features, including storyboards (if any), documentaries (both professional and fan made), and a detailed look into the making of the movie in the form of a still-frame/video short index similar to the special features disc on Terminator 2:Ultimate edition.

This could be a good thing if accomplished, and if it does, could be a good download on the newsgroups and torrent download sites.

That would require reediting the film back into WotW. Unless you intend to put no audio in the numerous scenes that were cut. This was discussed in another Ghibli thread. Personally I think that idea stinks. Miyazaki was deeply upsetted about the editing of Nausicaa. I don't think including that edit in a set meant to honor the film would be right. I could see putting clips of some of the more infamous parts, even a little documentary on how it was changed. Merely to detail that sordid history. To actually preserve the abomination using the restored film itself would be insulting in my book. It doesn't need to be recreated. VHS rips at the most if you must have it.

It's bad enough that when Animeigo restored Macross, ADV and Harmony Gold re-edited it back together with the also restored Southern Cross and Mospeada in it's bastardized Robotech form. It's an example of taking a showing of love and respect for the original, and cutting it back into a version which wasn't even faithful to that version (Robotech Remastered - See new scenes long available in the original show, now with new generic sound effects). It's a slap in the face. ^_^;;

The rest of the stuff sounds good though. Ideas on how to do it?

I'm not too familiar with the history of this film. I know the R1 release has some featurettes (though most dealing with the English dubbing), the English and Japanese audio, a lot of trailers, and the complete film in storyboards. So there's not need to duplicate these in terms of extras.

The Japanese discs do have a commentary on them. but you would need to find a translation of them or find someone to translate them. Maybe they're already subbed I don't know. Other than that I don't think the Japanese release had anything else that the US release didn't have.

Well, it did have an awesome figure with it. But I doubt that's something we could mass produce. ^_^

Maybe if somebody has access to the Special edition DVD of Nausicaa, like the one found at the bottom webpage...

Maybe the resources like its storyboards and audio commentary can be used. Also does anyone know where the Warriors of the Wind Trailer can be found?

Also I happen to have a copy of Warriors of the Wind on PAL VHS tape. Can that help, and spare the effort of reediting the film like one of the others said before?

The only thing that sets that apart from the much cheaper japanese release is the case so if someone wants to buy that the cheaper one will suffice. Also the only diffenence between that set and the US release is the audio commentary and as Klingon_Jedi pointed out the Figure. I have the NTSC VHS of warriors of the wind if anyone is intereseted in doing anything like that with it though.
