Hey. Just wondering how many Naruto fans are here. I figure ricarleite is by the looks of his avatar.

Cartoon Network is going to be airing the english dubbed version this fall. I can hardly wait. I'm really wondering how it's going to turn out. I hope they don't ruin it...

I just read a list of some of the voice actors. They have some really good people signed up. The guy who did the voice of Vash on Trigun will be voicing Naruto, and the guy who voiced Spike on Cowboy Bebop will be voicing Kakashi.

So yeah, any Naruto fans here?

Yeah, no kidding.

I swear sometimes it seems like there are a total of 20 anime voice actors on the whole friggin' continent.

And then there are FUNimation's voice "actors" that were literally pulled off the street.

Well, they have a few good ones at least...

PSYCHO DAYV tried out for that but he didn't make it... Which doesn't speak fondly of his talent.

Then again, I honestly think it's more the directing than anything. Think about it; Sabat is one of, if not THE worst FUNi has... And he is the one who normally DIRECTS their voice overs? Makes NO sense at all.

Sean Schemmel can be pretty good when he finds the right motivation, and he has Goku's personality down very well. I don't suppose I've seen anything else with him. Though I did imagine his voice for Alexander Luthor while reading Crisis on Infinite Earths. (Why? I have no idea.)

I'd take Steve Blum, Wendee Lee, Beau Billingsley, and the Red Ranger over them any day.

MY top 3 favorite voice actors: Steve Blum, Cam Clarke, and David Hayter.

The voice actor I absolutely abhor is the one with the scathing voice that does Frieza and a vanship pilot on Last Exile(can't find her on IMDB), its like cats scratching a chalkboard in the middle of a machine shop.

That's Linda Chambers, although she now has a hyphenated name, but I can't remember what her new last name is.

The original (North American) Freeza was Pauline Newstone.

The FUNimation in-house Freeza was Linda Chambers-____.

I don't know what their deal is with Chris Sabat. Are they still using him for voice director? I thought they were using John Burgmeier more now. I just remember that they gave Sabat too many damn voices to do in the DragonBall series... and they all sucked. Vegeta, Piccolo, Yamucha, Kami-sama... the list goes on.

And I agree that Sean Schemmel's Goku can be pretty decent at times, but what he did to Kaio-sama's voice is completely intolerable. Makes me shudder just thinking about it.

No wonder I never watch the dub anymore. Or any dubbed anime for that matter...

Êêhh? Nan dattebayo?!

I'm a Naruto fan, yes, although the series has got a bit dragged on and silly recently. What I say to all of you americans who are willing to watch this series on CN or whatever stations airs it: GOOD LUCK, as they are going to kill the series with bad english dubbing and a lot of cuts. There's NO way they are going to air things like Sexy no Jutsu, Haren no Jutsu and Jiraya's perversions.

They've already announced that it's going to be on after 10pm, right? If they show DBZ uncut at 10:30, why can't they show Naruto uncut? But I'm just getting my hopes up...

Anyway. I agree about Steve Blum, Sessler. He's my favorite voice actor.

Yeah, definitely one of the better anime dubbers.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ME IS THAT THEY HAD ME ON CALL BACK. AT THE TIME THEY DIDN'T KNOW IF THEY WERE GOING TO GET DB-GT. THEY LEFT A LOT OF US HANGING. IN ADDITION THEY WERE ACTUALLY MORE INTERESTED IN MY ART PORTFOLIO. THE HAD TALKED ABOUT HIRING ME TO DO TOUCH-UP WORK ON THE ANIMATION CELLS. I JUST WASN'T INTERESTED IN DOING THAT AT THE TIME. I WAS STILL PRETTY BURNED OUT ON DOING ANY KIND OF ARTWORK.

Has anyone here noticed that the ads change based on what the thread is? Look at the ads now! Their Naruto and voice acting related! That's cool, actually.

Anyways, on topc, I'm really looking forward to this series, because I've always heared to was really good, and I see it constantly compared to DBZ.

Oh, Dayv. Well, I can't blame you for turning down that job--touching up other people's animation cels sounds sort of lame. I'd like to do a voice acting project at least once, though. I think it would be fun. Heh.

Hey, Ric... exactly how "unsafe" is Naruto for American TV? I mean sexy no jutsu (Which litterly means The Style of Sexy, I think... Odd..) isn't any worse than, for example, Marron's outfit in the Garlic Jr. Saga. I just don't want another headache of people constantly whining and comparing Naruto's dub to the Japanese version and stuff. Meh. I had enough of that ever since "Hey look! I can see their parachutes! They're OK!"

Well, if they produce a decent dub for Naruto (unlike DBZ's), then there won't be any reason to whine.

Naruto is much better than DBZ. It's really one of the best animes that's still having new episodes coming out.

Also, the Naruto anime has already been censored a little bit in the japanese version. Sexy no Jutsu has noticably more smoke around Naruto than the manga does. The american version will probably just add a bit more smoke. I mean, it's really no different than something like a bubble bath, which is constantly shown in animes such as DBZ or Pokemon...

And I don't think Jiraiya's pervertedness will need to be all that different. I mean, they might just make it a little more subtle... A few lines will need to be changed, but I'm sure they could do it without altering them too much. Of course, that doesn't mean they won't...

But I'm thinking that probably only some blood will be painted out or something. I'm really not expecting them to butcher it, because after the overwhelming amount of hate that 4Kids got because of what they did to One Piece, I'm sure that Viz will be careful. They're not going to want the same thing happening to them.

And Viz has already done several GOOD dubs... such as Rurouni Kenshin and Ranma 1/2.

But then again, I'm just crossing my fingers here... Trying to be optimistic.

Dayv, are you an animator? I am a struggling cartoonist/animator currently working a totally unrelated job just for the money while I work on improving/updating my portfolio. The problem is most animation jobs (inbetwwening, cleanup, etc) are farmed out to sweat shops in Korea or wherever.

That's extremely expensive. Anime DVDs can cost like 15-25 dollars for just five episodes. It's not really worth it except for films they aren't going to show on TV like Princess Mononoke and Ghost in the Shell, which ironically typically cost less than episodes of a series.

I have seen the original version, and I love the original voice actors. I knew what you were talking about when you said Dattebayo.

Like I said... I'm just being optimistic. I'm sure the American version isn't going to turn out as well as I'd like it to, but it's still nice to try and keep faith.
