Could be, there's a doc on the Sinbad disc where Ray discusses the difficulties of working in color.

yes, 1950s-1970s colour Eastman stock was among the worst ever made for professional productions. Nitrate was very unstable, but at least it looked nice. Early colour stocks traded clarity for colour, but they got it sorted out as the years went on.
