i agree... being a life long laker fan this is hard to say, but it was hard for me to be upset when the team that i would have wanted to build beat the team i have always loved. The lakers fan in me cried. The basketball fan/player/coach in me rejoiced. Odd to say the least...

yeah they look real good this year. Especiallyt now that they can play defense more than in any previous year. Dirk is looking great too, more and more like the stellar player he was slated to be when he was drafted

so i am sure everyone has heard of the Pacers vs. Fans bout friday night. what are your thoughts

Personally, i hope the hammer continues to get dropped. Artest and co. got exactly what they deserved, i would have gone lighter than the whole season, but i understand where the commish is coming from. I hope detroit PD and NBA hunt down the fans that acted foolishly and prosicutes them. Further more i hope that artest, Steven jackson, and J Oneal all have charges pressed against them. It is time that professional celebs no longer get special treatment.

Agreed. I think that the players are expected to deal with a lot, so not all of the blame should be on them. However, they do have to pay for their decisions - if it was Artest's first offense it would seem TOTALLY too harsh to suspend him for the season - but he has a track record. IMO, the suspensions make a lot of sense and seem fair (lenght-wise) but Im sure they will be appealed.
I think the fans who turned into freaking animals should be put in jail and fined, and possibly even banned from NBA games. If you are dumb enough to go down on the court and try and throw a punch at one of these NBA guys (6-7 240) HAHA, you deserve to get laid out.

Its like saying you should put a lion to sleep because it killed a person at the Zoo. But I didnt mention that the clown climbed into the Lions exhibit and was baiting it (sometimes truth is stranger than fiction).

I think Artest got what he deserved and I hope his suspension is not overturned. Now what exactly were the penalties levelled against the other three players? All news reports focus on Artest and kinda skim over the other three for the most part.

There are going to be some major lawsuits filed. However, with each lawsuit, there will be a countersuit and I think the only way they will be settled is privately. Or some may be dropped entirely.

Punshments are as follows:

For the Pacers
Ron Artest: rest of season plus playoffs (73+ games)
Stephen Jackson: 30 games
Jermaine O'Neal: 25 games
Anthony Johnson: 5 games
Reggie Miller: 1 game (to be served after coming off the injured list)

For the Pistons
Ben Wallace: 6 games
Chauncey Billups: 1 game
Elden Campbell: 1 game
Derrick Coleman: 1 game

Quote

All of the suspensions are without pay. Artest will lose approximately $5 million in salary, while O'Neal's suspension will cost him nearly 25 percent of his $14.8 million salary for the current season.

From ESPN Article

I believe all the punishments are fair, given what I've seen. The fans involved also need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

I find it kinda funny that this whole assault thing happened the same week as a CSI: Miami episode in which someone died related to an assault at a Miami Heat game.
