My theory on when O-OT will come (Just a theory)

Author
Time
I am thinking when Lucas releases the HD-DVD Version in 2007, just a rumor, but you hear it all over the internet. Here are my reasons why:

It will be a box set of all 6 movies, including updated scenes and effects of all 6 & plus the O-OT as a seamless branching version. It will also have the deleted scenes from the OT we didn't get in the 2004 DVD release, and new featurettes on the saga as a whole. This way Lucas covers all markets: He gets the fans who want a box set of all 6 movies (prequel gushers), the fans that were waiting for all 6 to be released (small group, but there are some out there that are still waiting), and all of the disgusted OT fans who are clamoring for the O-OT on DVD. This way, it will make everyone happy in one big box set, and it will cover all bases of SW fans.

The theory I think on why they will release the O-OT on DVD with the boxset is, they know many fans who are disgusted with the PT, won't be interested in a new boxset, but putting the O-OT with those updated movies, how can we resist?

It is just a theory, but as much as I bury Lucas, and feel he has lost it sometimes, he is a damn good marketer, and he knows when SW can make money, as Yoda would say, "Making money, that he has never lost the ability to do!"

While I don't discount it as a possibility, it sounds more like a dream rather than a theory.

Anything is possible - 10 years ago no one would have thought we'd be sitting here discussing 6 Star Wars films instead of 3. They were always rumoured, but to come to fruition is something else.

So, it's possible, but highly unlikely. I think we'll see the O-OT when Lucas cacks, as much as I hate to say it...

I would like to think so, but with George you never know, but I still say unlikely, but he must know or be aware he has unhappy fans, and fans who are near enough at breaking point saying enough is enough with the changes to the O.T, the most important issue is does George care?, do they feel they can ride the present and any future discontent among these fans to sell enough boxsets which they probably may well do,

The O.O.T and the supplements would be the only thing that would interest me and make me part with my cash, but I have to say with all the great preservation work and fan edits avalible I would be hesitant to splash the cash straight away, if ever, if this was the case, and the unseen footage will become available separate from the boxset, one way or the other.

The flip side is that if enough buzz and noise is made around fan preservation projects, Lucas may not have any choice but to release the O-OT.

Not that I condone any grass roots revolutionary stuff or anything

When at the stores yesterday looking at all the Star Wars displays, there are still a lot of OT boxsets out there for purchase. It still strikes me as odd that they're releasing another boxset in December. What if as a strange marketing ploy, it is the OOT, but they're not saying it is? Yes, a fool can dream...

I'm with CO here!

I've been saying the same thing for a while now, not that anybody listens

I too believe they will release a super fuck off box set in 2007!

With all the versions of the movies and a ton of extra shit.

Don't worry, it will happen!

but i stand by my ground that it wont be happening...

Lucas prolly started that rumor himself..

Why would he make everybody happy in one big box set when he can make 3 different box sets and many people will buy more than one of them? Nice idea and I wish it was true, but I am anticipating a few more half-assed money sucking releases before we get the ultimate Star Wars release that you speak of.

War does not make one great.

souunds to me like alot of waiting will be invovled. I really wish they would just get on with it and move on to different projects. If you think about it, Lucas has literally become what he was working against at the start of his career as a filmmaker. He always wanted to explore and try different things but now he just keeps milking the same thing for money over and over again. He has become scared and stupid in my opinion. He is not the strong force he thinks he is. All he has is money and a bunch of yes people. Lucas has become weak and feable since he is unwilling to really let star wars go and just move on to different things. We may never get the O-OT until he croaks, which is sad.

That's what I thought when the news first came out, and now that it's November and there are zillions of the first box set still in every store, it makes even less sense that another release is coming.

I really hope Lucas never releases the OOT, otherwise all preservation efforts are useless (well, you do learn a lot from transferring). What would the people of the X0 team think when Lucas releases the OOT tomorrow? Going through all that trouble, spending so much time and money... it would suck! I for one could buy a LOT of Star Wars dvds if I had the money I used to buy Star Wars LDs and rent LD players.

I don't think that's necessarily true. If the OOT makes it to DVD someday, it's probably safe to assume that it will still be botched (colors, music, whatever). I doubt Lucas will ever put anything out like the Classic Edition, Editious edition, etc. He doesn't seem to be much for preserving (even THX-1138 was released on DVD altered/updated).

Judging by the hack job that Lucasfilm has done on some official releases, I think it's possible that the X0 project will have taken more care to preserve than Georgie's team.

Yes, I have to agree. Didn't think about it that way.

X0 Preservation Thread

With the new cartoon, tv show and possible 3D version coming out in the next 5 years, there's no reason to rererelease the DVDs which are a year old anytime soon.

How bored do you have to be to resurrect a nine year old thread?

Where were you in '77?

Pretty bored... I should avoid OT.com when doing math homework. :P

I promise not to do it again, Silverwook.

Well, this gives me a platform to assert my theory, now that the theory in this thread proved false.

We will never get the OOT on its own- only with the 2011 editions. But we will eventually get the originals. I don't think putting a time frame on it is wise though, since the time frame here was obviously not met.

I'm in the same boat as you, though, I'm supposed to be doing homework too. :P

I started reading the first post like 5 times and wasn't understanding anything until I looked at the date of the post, I saw the thread an thought ''oh, a new thread, only one page'' :p

I'm still waiting for the saga to come to HD-DVD.

It's been two whole years since Disney bought Lucasfilm and we still haven't heard a peep regarding the OOT. It's mind-boggling to think that this thread was started nine years ago and we're still waiting.

Don't worry. Once the government finally gives the public access to their sideways time travel technology, this -- among various other things -- will become relatively easy to acquire.
