Alright, so I made a bit of an update to my edit of ANH. Namely, I restored Vader’s initial line when he first encounters Obi-Wan. I didn’t like the idea of Vader saying the exact same thing to Obi-Wan that he already said to Ahsoka. Honestly, I’m not sure why FXitinPost changed it in the first place, since the original line was perfectly good already.
But anyway, here’s the current version of the scene if you want to check it out:

If you want a link to this updated version, let me know.
Hi Buzz Lightyear. I just stumbled across your post. I very much enjoyed SC38 when it came out and i think it makes ANH a stronger film. I had thought about someone actually tackling an edit by adding SC38 into ANH at the time and wondered if I could try editing the film myself (but it would’ve been my first attempt at something like this). I own collections of the Star Wars films on VHS, DVD, Blu Ray, and digital. I also enjoy collecting fan edits. If you don’t mind, I would be interested in watching your edit. I would love to provide feedback as well if that’s okay.

Okay so I just got done finishing up a few more changes to my edit. This time I restored the original “If you strike me down” clip, since the SC38 Reimagined version looked pretty dodgy (and had bad lip synching). I also adjusted the aspect ratio (which required replacing scenes that came from the original movie) so that it would be consistent throughout the whole movie.
Here’s the scene in its current state:

And again, I made both a version that includes the Jabba scene and a version that excludes it. I’m thinking of eventually making a third version that adds some more of the SC38 Reimagined fight back in…but that would be awhile off, and would be separate from the two current versions. Hopefully this will be their final state…but, well, you know how it goes.

Thanks Buzz! I’ll be able to watch this later on today (if not tomorrow) and provide you with my thoughts after. I’ll probably prefer the version without the Jabba scene. It was a bit jarring to watch the first time I saw it but we’ll see how this scene feels today. Thanks again!

Buzz, for starters, you’ve done a really good job with this edit. This version of ANH will replace the original cut in my personal fan edit collection when viewing the entire saga. I watched both versions (FINAL NO JABBA & FINAL W/ JABBA). While I do enjoy the SE edits that aid the film, the Jabba scene does not work for me. So, I want to thank you for creating an alternate version without Jabba.
Now regarding SC38, overall I will say that it transitions very smoothly with the original cut of ANH and it holds up well as a reminder to the intense lightsaber fight we saw in ROTS. I can also tell and understand that much of SC38 was trimmed down to match the length of the original 1977 fight scene. However, I truly think that it would have been great to see the extended fight scene of SC38. First to mention is that we are missing Obi Wan placing his hood over his head. It’s a minor detail but in one scene, we get to see Kenobi readying his lightsaber with his hood down. Once he encounters Darth Vader, his hood is suddenly up. This could certainly be ignored but I think little details such as this help explain the sudden transition. Also towards the end of the fight, I really like that Obi Wan’s force push on Darth Vader, as well as Anakin’s “I hate you!”/Obi Wan’s “You were my brother, Anakin.” flashback lines, were left out. But I truly think that most of the initial lightsaber fight, including the “red” hallway scene, would have been great additions to the overall fight between the two. I think it helps to show how powerful Darth Vader continues to be as he feverishly works towards killing Obi Wan. Especially after seeing the Sith Lord’s actions in ROTS and Rogue One. I was definitely yearning for a little more of the lightsaber fight. It fell a bit short for me.
What are your thoughts on this?
Again, thank you so much for sharing your version of ANH. It’s a notable edit in my book!
