My custom Star Wars Gray Jedi costume! (With backstory) - Need feedback

Hello everyone!  :))

Been working on this costume for a long time now, and i really wanted to share my current progress with others to get feedback and such..

So far this is what i have:

With cloak

Without cloak

With lightsaber (now painted black, not red)

The pictures are a bit old, so the mask have been replaced with a better looking one..

So far, i am really satisfied, but i have major plans for it.. Like adding armor to the chest, arms and legs, adding more lightsabers, more details etc. etc..

I have also written A LOT of backstory for the character i am supposed to be, Krisos. A fair warning though, there is still A LOT of content missing which will make the character more "mortal" and "vulnerable" but i am still working on it. Feel free to check it out though, would appreciate it!  :D

So yeah.. What do you all think? All kinds of feedback is appreciated, good or bad. :)

I think a Gray Jedi costume should just be a cosplay of Kyle Katarn. ;)

Never heard of the guy, so i looked him up.. I guess you can call him a Gray jedi too, yeah. :P

Man, Kyle is one of the best Star Wars characters out there.

Your costume looks pretty good, if you haven't, you should definitely check out the costuming section of the RPF. Those guys know their stuff about everything costuming-related.

I like the pictured mask. Have you seen Prince Valloeum in the "The Star Wars" comic?

Author

Looks like a Halloween mask. The first looked sharper.

Hmm yeah, but i still like the second mask better.. Any ideas on how to improve it?

Perhaps just ditch the idea of using a mask altogether and go for facepaint instead.

Prince Valorum. Bad guy,

Not really--he ends up joining the heroes in the end.

Also, I think Dark Horse really missed an opportunity by not drawing Valorum as Samuel L. Jackson. But then again they also whitewashed General Skywalker, who in all likelihood Lucas meant to be Japanese.

I really don't want to go with facepaint, i am not skilled enough to make it look good, and besides, i want to be able to put the mask on quickly :P

Well, the pic isn't great, but it looks like t-shirt fabric.

Perhpas if the skull-part was a different material and sewn on? Or some kind of rigid structure, giving it more form? Just ideas, I'm not a costumer.

I agree regarding the whitewashing. They could do anything... so everyone is white.

Maybe they were going for a 1977 vibe, back when it was illegal to have people of color in a movie except "Shaft."

Weelll.. I guess i could look for something like that. Thanks for the suggestion :P

Definitely agree with Boost that cutting out a heavier fabric in the shape of the paint and sewing it on would make it look more dynamic. You could exaggerate the paint underneath it and still get that effect as well if you wanted.

Or do like they do with Spiderman and put some kind of rigid, form-creating (usually plastic) base underneath the mask to give it a better "face" shape.

Hm maybe.. I like the mask as it is though so i dunno if i'll do anything about it but i'll take this into consideration ^^

Well shit, if you like it as-is, then it's fine.

Han was green ... *shrug*

How dare they greenwash a white character!
