Sorry I didn't get back to you, Studio Toledo.

I had to look one server recommendation up - Astraweb.

Newshosting and Giganews are also awesome choices.

I'll try to PM you later about software.

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

Download  shows from Cable DVR (Updated! Yes, it needs a rewrite, but it's worth slogging through, anyway).

Just had to chip in to say that, having now watched the discs, they are absolutely wonderful.

Regardless of how (or should that be *when*) the official releases turn out I very much doubt they will have the same level of professionalism, attention to detail and added material as these superb discs.

Real "by the fans for the fans" stuff

Cracking job CW !

Totaly agree with the post above. These disks are totaly amazing. Hope that the official dvds come out shortly but have read on other forums that this isnt going to happen any time soon despite the fact that play.com has got it listed. Keep up the good work anyway CW.

Hi,

I discrovered this forum recently and I glad that I did. this website is fantastic.

I downloaded the 4 DVDs of CW and they are absolutley fantastic. The menus are amazing and I am not sure that the official ones (if they ever released) will be better. The video and audio quality is also great. I have the Tim Skutt set also and I can say that CW set is much better in the design (I liked the video colors in this CW's DVDs).

Are there any plans to release the last 4 DVDs ?

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.

I just wanted to thank CW for your great effort here and to let you know your work was extremely appreciated.

I also wanted to pass on what many of you may already know... Not only is this officially finally being released commercially (with English) but there is also a suggestion area on the site of the release studio. If you have any last minute suggestions, i encourage you to get them in now.
http://www.fabulousfilms.co.uk/

Here was my suggestion... (for what it's worth)
Full uncut episodes would be a must. Multiple language options would be very important for such an internationally known series also. For example an English audio option as well as original audio with English subtitles at the least would be extremely appreciate! This is great for the English only speaking adults that prefer original audio (with the benefit of subtitles) and the kids that can't do all that reading of the subtitles, etc, etc, etc.

The highest caliber effort in video and audio restoration and quality are certainly warranted for a series this highly rated and respected as well.

Extras are always appreciated but for many i think that uncut and restored video/audio quality and audio/subtitle choices would be a must. Everything else is just a huge bonus but also greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for this!

...i couldn't think of much else but i thought the quality, uncut and language options were at least a must.

Just an FYI since i didn't see a mention of that suggestion info posted yet. Sorry if i missed it.

thX again CW for your great work. I suspect that your project may have helped pump some life into the retail release. Even getting fans to remember a show or introduce new fans raises awareness and in the end contributes to the overall demand. Lets just hope they put as much love into it as you have.

Actually, you may be a tad disappointed.
I am!

Having just received the official boxset, there appears to have been a good effort made with regards to extras and presentation, but the picture quality is lacking compared to yours.

There is a powerfull green/yellow tint to the picture whereas the colours of your version look much more natural (if perhaps a little faded).

Also, the picture seems to shimmer constantly while yours is rock stable.

There just might be a small amount more detail in the Fabulous films release, but with the shimmering and colour tint it gives the general appearance of being siginificantly inferior to your version.

It amazes me that a professional company can achieve such inferior results compared to a fan made release.

Finally there are a couple of seconds of footage missing from the begining of the first episode.

On the up side, there is no preachy anti-piracy video to watch and the menus are professional (as yours are) and not too jazzy.

I'm still only on the first episode so far so I'll see if things improve, but I doubt it.

Here are a couple of screen shots:

Well it actually varies between the german release (which I used as a base for my version) and BBC masters as used on FF's set throughout, sometimes yes the german video is better and sometimes its certainly not.
A confession now the official set is out is that after I did my set - I ended up being involved in fabulous films official release.
if you could see the differences pre and post clean up of the video masters you'd be amazed. Yes there are sometimes issues with shimmer, colour and missing bits (the edited broadcast masters were used - its the only masters the bbc had)
I'm glad its finally out officially though. I 'm really proud of it - :)

Wait, wait - edited? Like, cut content deemed "unsuitable" for UK audiences? I hope that whatever US company (it seems that Shout! has a good track record, I'd hope for them) picks it up would try and get unedited masters. I'm glad that a fan was the one who worked on this official release, but couldn't they have grabbed Japanese film masters and released a stand-alone uncut set?
Don't take my comments personally, please; I'm a very picky guy when it comes to foreign cartoons (what they're doing to DBZ with the widescreen is disgusting.)

I can understand the pickyness (sp?) Its known in mcog circles that the UK showings of MCoG has a few small of scenes missing or cut down, some of which is to do with violence. none of us could ever understand the Godshot from episode one being removed though.
I think FF could only get hold of the BBC masters. The nicklodeon masters were in terrible shape even more so than the BBC's which were at times shocking before the clean up process.
Dont worry I wont take your comments personally bkev, FF did the best they could with the stuff they had access too. for me being involved in the official set it was a blast and although I was involved i'm a fan more so and totally get what your saying.. theres not a lot I can say about the US release at the moment though..

Wait... Nick's masters are uncut, yes? Forget the picture, couldn't they take the audio from it (assuming that's in decent shape) and then get Japanese footage masters for an NTSC release? Man, I must be pushing it here...

According to AnimeOnDVD's boards, the Japanese and French versions are cut differently from each other and it was intended this way from the beginning. The French version includes scenes that the Japanese version does not and vise-versa. The English dub version is based off the French version. It is a Japanese-French co-production, so the both French and Japanese versions would be considered original versions.

I have only heard of the Nickelodeon broadcast being edited for content, so I would assume the BBC masters would be more complete.

bkev, its a matter of cost and rights. companys don't have the same amount of freedom as us fan creators. stuff costs money. EG the clean up cost just over £50000 for the 39 episodes alone, add on all the other costs involved and keep in mind its a cult cartoon with limited audience compared to any hollywood hit etc , you have to sell alot of products to get close to hitting profit.
I guess in an ideal world getting hold of a 16mm print and telecining it would be awesome but think of the cost of over 18 hours of footage. then comes the colour timing etc..
The Japanese version removed alot of esteban daydreaming and was cut to make esteban more the hero than mendoza saving his ass all the time.
I havent had chance to see the nick masters sadly I was basing my opinion on what the dvd director told me about them. I have got the BBC masters pre cleanup though and theres an incredible amount of crap on them - which would have been there when originally broadcast - makes you wonder how badly reels were treated back then..
sorry if my answers seem a little disjointed, kind of in the middle of moving house and using a dodgy gprs connection atm

Ah, I see. Well then, it's a shame that the two versions are so different. I mean, I'm sure Japan has its own remaster a-la Dragonball's Dragon Box, so if it were the same than those remasters could be purchased. It really *is* a shame about all this. Oh, and I'm curious, how far did the remastering go? Was it just put through a machine and DVNR'ed, or was there more to it?

I'm starting to feel a tad guilty for making such a negative post now.

Thanks for explaining some of the problems and pitfalls that FF have had to deal with CW. Makes things a lot clearer.

I really hate the way that series like these were edited and cut for various countries.
It often means there is no definitive version (that we're ever likely to see anyway).

Noticed OriginalTrilogy has a new look. I hope I can get use to this simpler template, though I miss having those code tags.

I think we all do in some way, especially us Americans who deserve the best. I would've been fine with just CW's releases personally in the end, but that would be a matter of opinion (worse we can expect is whether or not a proper NTSC master could be made or would they just convert the PAL source over as usual).

Now we can only hope they'll find a good way to distribute these over here (given such a new company they are, it's hard to find a break in the US market if any without a proper campaign or awareness).

So sadly true, somehow I noticed a lot of Japanese-European co-productions that were of that type where they different content-wise over content in the editing.

If there was some way I could make up for this, here's a rar file I put together of the OP and ED themes for the Japanese "Taiyô no ko Esteban" (or "Esteban, Child of The Sun")...

While I hate bumping old threads like it was nothing (much like my life), I just noticed I had downloaded some of the .rar files from CW last year before the Fabulous Films thing went into effect but never got to download the rest when I had the chance though I kept getting errors often after downloading them as some parts weren't too perfect for whatever reason, and it's only a shame I only ever downloaded one of those discs completely in the end (still don't have much interest in paying for the R2 set and still haven't heard of it showing up stateside yet, and I don't want to get started on the BBC edit deal either), but it would've been nice to get the rest of those discs from someone here anyway that could help me out (much like I want ImaginAsian to continue the DVD's for Orguss and Remi after the folly of last month, I can't stand having black holes in my sets I bothered picking up).
