Hi DrGonzo
yes both will be SL
Got up this morning to find that I had a write fail through the night, WD RE2 500gb enterprise drive failed, its back now though - weird and a little scary because a big chunk of MCoG is on it. so I've started ST again now..Grrr backup time me thinks

Hopefully, the write hit a single bad sector that was lurking in an unused space. It's happened to me a few times. Belatedly, its a good idea to do bad-sector check with scandisk, periodically, with new drives. I've also learned to make md5 or sha checksums of all my data, because a bad sector can be automatically replaced by the drive's hardware, but when copies the data off the old sector, and sees a crc mismatch, it'll retry until it hits the first thing that matches the crc - that's usually wrong, and gives you a glitch in your avi, or trashes a smaller file. So it'd be a good idea to play all your files back.

Anyway, enough of that kind of talk. This project is going to be niiiiiiice.

Merry Christmas!

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

Download  shows from Cable DVR (Updated! Yes, it needs a rewrite, but it's worth slogging through, anyway).

Hi, this is a great project. I am so happy that someone is gonna make new DVD version.
Looking forward and cannot wait to see this DVDs when they will be ready.
By the way, I think that rapidshare is a good way to spread the DVDs because it's very reliable and fast hosting service. Another way is to use bittorrent protocol.

Good luck CW!

Just want to add how much I'm looking forward to these being released. I only just noticed this thread.

Funnily enough I started downloading this series (via bittorrent) a couple of days back, and the picture quality was awful to watch.
Very overcompressed (why do people do that?)

So, I'm going to stop downloading it and wait for your version to be released.

There seems to be no sign of an official release, and even if there was, there is no guaranttee it would be as good anyway.

Cheers!

For size.

And most of them don't know what they're doing. I personally think my AVIs look quite good.

Probably for the best. Most copies I see posted online look like rips from the same VHS tape a friend once sent me 7 years ago he obtained from his anime club's library at the Univ. of Texas in Austin. There are times when I only wish I had bothered recording that show back when Nickelodeon had it on in the 80's, but I was still rather too young to comprehend recording something on a VCR than simply playing a tape. If only I had had all 39 episodes in virginal quality from those airings, I'd be a GOD to you people! You know how elusive finding perfect copies of this show in English are.

There seems to be no sign of an official release, and even if there was, there is no guaranttee it would be as good anyway.

Worst I could expect is for some US company to license the original masters from France and have their go at ADR-ing the thing (this would be up Media Blaster's alley since they're already raking in the dough from the Voltron crowd). I believe the original English dub for MCoG (as well as Ulysses 31) were done up in Canada.

Being reminded of the stupid US edited release of "Ulysses 31" that the guys over in the UK have to put up with for their DVD releases (DiC can be suck dicks at times).

Seems like the more profit-potential, the more they do to minimise their profits.

And the Canadian masters might've been destroyed?! Let's hope we do get a proper official English PAL release (and English NTSC release, for that matter) some day. (I could swear these preservation projects light a fire under their asses, sometimes).

Meanwhile, CW's work is awesome-good.

I've hit a couple of delays, but I'll start posting them to the newsgroups tonight or tommorow.

"If only I had had all 39 episodes in virginal quality from those airings, I'd be a GOD to you people! You know how elusive finding perfect copies of this show in English are."

More than a god i'd say! and incredibly elusive to find good copies,

Tims Scutts last set did have some good audio though, it just wasn't used properly and needed restoring properly. I hated the japanese video, colours were totally wrong, way to much diffusion.. the list goes on, Same as the french sets, very yellow, noisey and too much cropping.
Some say that the german release is crap what with bits missing etc, but its colour is much closer to how it should be to any other release out there and less cropped than the french, hence its my base with this restoration.

I just hope you all like what I've done, im a fan, a really big one - but there are many more fans out there that know alot more than me about the show.. im just a tech guy..

Yup done in canada, im a big ulysses 31 fan too. Don't think MCoG would need to be ADR'ed ..see below..

Not sure I follow you there, the UK version by Contender Entertainment used the Fox UK broadcast masters and afaik they are uncut apart from the intro which was the shorter US version. the longer version is on all 3 french sets, not sure about the australian release.. I know the US Mysteries in Time was cut (alot) on 2 of the 4 episodes.

"And the Canadian masters might've been destroyed?!"

from my research, I believe that its only most of the music masters that got destroyed/missing, im sure there are still episode masters or dupes of masters available.

I agree with the others, the menus and disc art looks great, CW. I'm looking forward to this set.
I have one of Tim Scutt's older sets, and thought it was ok. If this is better, than that, then I will be very impressed indeed.

You were including documentaries at the end of each episode? I know the only copies of those I've seen seem to be from a Polish broadcast (if I remember correctly) with burned-in subtitles and basically poor video quality. Is this the same source you are using? there probably aren't that many sources for them, since they were aired so few times.

I wish I knew more about the tech stuff, but I hope the colors aren't any different to how I remember this.

By the way, since this is said to be posted in the newsgroups, what would be a good way for me to get this? I've been out of the binary downloading thing for a few years now (my cable company's ISP has a 3 gig a month limit when I was into it). Would there be any other method I could use to get these?

I was thinking of the one that was on "Kideo TV" if that was the masters they used for the Fox UK masters. But perhaps I just don't know since I've only ever saw the old VHS rips from the UK VHS releases from back in the 80's. "Kideo TV" was DiC's excuse for cramming three cartoons into one block that ran sometime on the weekends around '86. I think America only ever saw half of U31 as the series was replaced with "The Get Along Gang" in midseason

The copies over at *edited* do contain all of the documentary segments as separate MPG files I believe.

Wow! That was quick, Boon.

Folks, check fanedit.org for *edited* details.

Due to my own inefficiency, er, I mean Real Life, I just got started reposting some Waterworld files. MCoG goes up tonight for sure.

I'll also be sending copies to DrGonzo, "Real Soon Now".

I dunno if there are any torrents planned, hope so.

CW's MCoG does have the mini-documenteries. And they're in surprisingly good shape. A little muddy, but not pixellated. (And no subtitles).

I checked Disc 1 so far, and they've been about historical topics about the show. I haven't run into any "making of" yet. (You might be able to tell that I'm not the expert, here. ). I didn't catch them on Nickelodeon, back in the day, but I remember seeing them listed in the schedule. I'm getting addicted to it, now - I have to see where all this is going.

Heh, best I know of is that Nick never showed the mini-documentaries as far as I'm concerned (probably for timing constrants and the need to throw more ads in).

Yeah, I changed subjects without changing paragraphs. Brain is mush, this morning. I went from talking about the documentaries, to talking about how it was all new to me (not much point for me to watch it in French). Yeah, cable commercial breaks get to be pretty grueling.

Wikipedia says they didn't show the documentaries in the UK or US, but they were shown in Australia and "other countries".

Did you want some recommendations on news servers and software?

I know the French version did when it was aired on Société Radio-Canada some years ago from a tape of an episode or two a friend sent me. I often think on government-subsidized public channels they'd probably would've played it uncut (can't explain why the BBC wouldn't want to have those mini-documentaries at all given the nature of that channel).

Did you want some recommendations on news servers and software?

Yeah I did! I've used Xnews through my ISP's news server, but it would be nice to find out what other servers I could use that are affordable or "free" if possible.
