Why even have an ideology? Maybe I'm exposing my political naivete, but couldn't they just run the place as an agnostic Star Wars discussion site? I mean, I can go on TrekWeb and tell the appropriate forum that Voyager sucked, then enumerate a whole host of reasons. Or better yet, the Original Series sucked and Picard could beat Kirk in a fight. Such a post would be childish, garner few responses, and get lost in the shuffle of forum activity -- essentially failing to sell itself on the marketplace of ideas. Or, I could post a contentious idea that is well thought-out, polite, and original -- I might criticize the franchise's creator, or a favorite writer -- and there would be lively debate, adding to the collective knowledge on the subject.

How come the mods at TF.n aren't willing to let the marketplace of ideas determine value on their board? I know they're trying to stroke the egos of their "VIPs" (e.g. Karen Traviss), but why slavishly defend people who never even see the board, against opinions that are as valid as anyone else's?

Wow, I was reading that forum all week and you never should have been banned Zombie. I tried to sign up there but my computer wouldn't let me. I think it has more sense than I do. I kept reading one guy saying it's "ungrateful" to want the originals in a decent transfer. Grateful for what? "I'm so grateful McDonald's sold me this crappy cheeseburger". Ugh, maybe the internet should just go away. We can go back to buying porno at a newsstand.

Zombie banned? Fuckin A, man. I can't believe you got banned. So did I actually. I don't know if you read any of my posts before they got edited but I agreed all about the slant at TFN. I even called TFn the happiest place on earth and that a lot of people have been driven away to the outer rims and found greener pastures(hinting at the bashers abandoning TFn and going to the outerrimsieges boards.). This and the drama going on about how TFN is going through some of our posts at outerrimsieges shows just how insecure and power mad they are. Not only that, the talk about the films not the fans rule was first violated by comments like these:

followed by "they truly are the craziest people on the planet."

I wasn't gonna take that crap lying down so I responded twice and had each response edited. Basically I said that the people at OT cared more and put in more work into the original triloghy than Lucas does or ever will. But I pointed out how skewed everything is at TFN, and I think that was what really got me banned. The official explenation is for "completely derailing the OOT DVD thread with the discussion of fans a mere page after a very clear and very visible (and repeated) mod warning - especially since you've been edited for the same thing just the day before"

How exactly do they edit posts? I remember the BTTF.com boards had a swearing filter that would asterisk out offensive words, but apparently this is an idea filter rather than a word filter. Are there any examples of the insanity? How can people consent to having their ideas edited?

I know! I always considered myself one of the more civil and constructive contributors to that place but i guess theres not even room for sane people like you and me. I'm going to be calling this behavior to the attention of other mods once I come back to try and see if we can relent this ridiculous intellectual oppression. I know the majority of them are in favour of the PT/SE but theres also a few that actually are level headed and have respect for people like us. I'm also planning on starting an "OOT Defense Force" over there, as someone pointed out that there is an identical such discussion for the PT. I don't much care for the actual ideal, i just like the idea of evening the odds.

Zombie84, I PM'd Twilekjedi, the mod who banned all O-OT fans today, under my other username cjedi72, and told him I found out you were banned, and told him he is losing moderate SW fans without an agenda if you ban people like him. He replied, and said my objection was noted, but he couldn't discuss their policies of banning people individually. But I think he is going to reconsider, cause their bias is showing.

I told him you are not a basher nor gusher, and told him to go back and read your posts in that thread, they were all very interesting and anyone here could learn a thing or two from your scans. I then said if you want a site of yes-men to George Lucas, and have everyone say the movies are great and nothing is wrong with them, go enjoy yourselves, cause it is going to get boring real quick.

Even us here at the originaltrilogy.com are arguing over ROTJ, so we are not all lockstep in our views, we just want a decent product of the movies we love.

Wait, so LordHelmet1 got the ban button too? If you look at the thread gushers have been coming and constantly baiting people. It only tapered off when zomibie was educating the masses and the gushers just scratched their head.

Never heard of theforce.net, but judging by this forum, it sounds like a horrible place where blasfamous rituals are preformed....but seriously, I'd like to know more about what it was, and the history that got everyone kicked off for disliking the PT. Can someone fill me in?

Just to show you guys how bias theforce.net is, I posted this thread on SW '77 coming in at #39 on AFI most inspirational movies and wasn't even reported on the main page, any forum, nowhere on the website. Here is my original post:

Again, the original Star Wars, makes one of these lists. It shows the true power of this movie cause despite what many say on this site, it is loved by the masses, the critics, and the fans even today. 29 years later, this is a true classic.

Makes you start to wonder that this wasn't posted anywhere how many Star Wars fans here really love the Original Star Wars?

It's absolutely crazy that original Star Wars fans are not considered good enough for tf.n, and are ostricized for trying to keep the real thing alive. Those new schoolers are what Star Wars is to them now. They just don't get it or acknowledge it in a major way. I'm much happier over here where people actually know what Star Wars is, AND appreciate it! That site is a laughing stock and a mess. I didn't get banned. I just left, except for visiting my city club board there, since I am a part of it. I just have no desire to get into anything with them, since they're obviously unflinchingly deluded and plan to stay that way. All other relations with tf.n I have utterly cut off. What a joke that place is. It's like how there's Bambi II now. It went straight to video. Forget about Bambi, there's the masterwork of Bambi II now!

No, we are actually too good for TFN. There's a difference. Anyway, now my sock and myself are both banned. Double bonus for using a sock while banned. I wonder if I get a cookie or something, I'll ask Crogenic for one.

Thanks Harlock, but I have given up fighting the fight over there, now my goal is just to expose how one sided that website is, and I have been pissing off Twilekjedi, the CT mod there all day. I PM'd him and asked him if they could create a specific forum that was totally seperate known as the O-OT Forum. I told him if they created it, I would get everyone back who left, and it would be a omage to all the fans who grew up with the series from 77-83, and it would make us feel wanted, not just having our own thread, but our own FORUM! He replied NO WAY, and said it was brought up in the meeting of the mods and nobody thought it was a good idea. I PM'd him again, and told him why don't you just rename the site, "Only Star Wars fans of the movies from 1997-2005" He never responded.

One of my posts was edited, but in it I said that I am the only one who is fighting for the O-OT on this site now since Harlock, Zombie and LordHelmet were banned yesterday. The post was up for everyone to see for about an hour, but I got many PM's from fans who were posting who pretty pissed off. Even though they disagreed with me, they really thought it was lame that the O-OT guys in the argument were the only ones who got banned.

Then I posted about SW getting #39 on the new AFI List, and at this time presently , nothing was posted on the site saying one of its babies, the original SW made a Top 100 list compared with EVERY movie ever. But they were quick to post last Thursday that Hayden won an MTV Award for Best Villain! I got about 2 replies from fans who congratulated SW '77, and my point was made: There is no one left on that site who likes the O-OT and the Original Star Wars anymore. Guys, this is the new radical Star Wars fan. Get used to this niche audience of SW geeks.

Yeah, I saw those edits. Looks like the policy at TFN is to not have dissent against the state. And of course if you took it to the comms forum like TLJ says, the thread will be locked instantly. Oh and remember Hudnall, he's been banned for two weeks alread nad just found out today.

Sheesh...That's depressing. I'm guessing this is a bunch of young people who've only ever thought of Star Wars as the six-part saga, and when they saw the OOT found it to be grossly innacurate to the PT, or as it seems that they consider, the first three films in the saga. It's sad to think that the next generation might be made up of Star Wars fand like this. Though, there is stll hope. I'm a teenager and love the OOT, and I might not be alone.

Did you try to contact the owners of theforce.net? Are they aware of what's going on in their forums?

Clearly, it's the mods that should be banned! They must be replaced by moderate people.

There seems to be some older Trekkie-ish people too. They don't care about film as art, they like costumes and weapons and collectibles and elaborate continuity they can get lost in and never come out.

Everybody on that site has that ideology of what I call: Prequel Lover, SE Lover, Star Wars '77 hater, and always up for new changes to the OT. So any complaint I have fall on deaf ears. I mean if you loved the SE, would you want to help someone who loves the O-OT?

They have done a focus group there with all the mods which is totally bogus, and I have to see if Harlock knows anything about it, but they were trying to make improvements to the forums, but I think in the end it was just pure window dressing to seem like it was fair.

I wish they would just be honest about their bias, and then I would take the site with a grain of salt knowing they don't want fans who love SW '77 there. The problem is they try to make it seem like they are fair to every SW fan and want all opinions, but clearly they only want someone who represents theirs.
