I have just come across some old VHS tapes of this series - would anyone be interested in seeing them again?
I don’t think I have them all, but I have 13 30 minute episodes and 5 45 minute specials.

EDIT - Just to add some information on which ones I have -

Special Makeup Effects - Rick Baker, Moulds And Casts
Optical Effects - Optical Printer, Star Wars, Composite Shots
Creature Effects - Carnosaur, Aliens
Pyrotechnics - Cliffhanger, Star Wars, The Terminator
Forced Perspective - Attack Of The 50ft Woman, Honey I Blew Up The Kid
Movie Rides - Back To The Future, The Abyss
Miniature Effects - Aliens, Terminator 2
Matte Painting - Addams Family Values
CGI - Hocus Pocus, Death Becomes Her
Flight Effects - Hocus Pocus
Model Makers - Star Trek DS9
Stop Motion Animation - Ray Harryhausen, Robocop 2, Empire Strikes Back
Sound Editing / Foley - Apocalypse Now

The 45 minute features are -

Wild Hollywood - Animal Actors
The Final Frontier - Space Films
Monsters & Mayhem - Creature Films
Special Effects - Various Techniques

I have started to capture the episodes, and am starting to make a DVD of them for myself - If there is enough interest I will create a “proper” DVD with menu’s etc.

Does anybody have or know of any episodes not lited above? I believe these were recorded from BBC2 in 93-94.

I REMEMBER THERE BEING AN EPISODE ON UNDERWATER EFFECTS WHICH SPOTLIGHTED THE SUBMARINE SEQUENCES OF CRIMSON TIDE. THERE WAS ALSO ONE ON AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. LET'S NOT FORGET ABOUT ONE OF THE OTHER EPISODES THAT SHOWED THE MINITURES FROM BTTF.


I REALLY LOVED THIS SHOW.

Wow. This show sounds really cool. I'm really into all this sort of stuff. That is, TV specials that explore the aspects of filmmaking. I'd love to see these made available.

Also, what kind of picture quality are they considering their age (the tapes)?

I would definately be interested! At one time some of the episodes were available on VHS (NTSC) from Amazon.com, in fact after a quick search I've just found that Monsters & Mayhem, Dinomania and Declaring War! are still listed despite no longer being available.

I checked both ebay.com & ebay.co.uk earlier on today and I couldn't see any VHS copies for sale, but I've seen them up on there before, not sure about LDs though.

The quality is ok, but obviously not spot on - I would compare it as being the same as Rikters Superman 3 Extended Edition, possibly slightly better.

I have captured all of the episodes, but some of the specials aren't worth it due to tracking problems etc.

I was JUST about to post AvP's EXCELLENT 3-disc "Movie Magic Series One" preservation to MySpleen...when I found that it had ALREADY been posted there just a little more than a year ago. ;)

Definitely worth a look! ;)
