Bootleg?

Anyone play Panzer Dragoon Saga? Not THAT was Saturn's shining moment.

Their 2D games blew everything else out of the water. I think if Sega had of powered on with some quality 2D games, especially an awesome new 2D Sonic game, things might have panned out differently. People might have seen the 'jaggies' and jerky gameplay for what it was in favour of titles like Radiant Silvergun, X-Men vs. Streetfighter, and Castlevania X.

Not to say that they should have abandoned 3D game development altogether, but I think they could have staked out a niche market and blaze their own trail.

A new Sonic game was definitely lacking. Sonic X-Treme got canned and Sonic 3D Blast was a cop-out (and it wasn't by Sonic Team, either).

Some other awesome Saturn titles:

NiGHTS into Dreams
Panzer Dragoon II (Get Panzer Dragoon Orta on XBox, it rocks)
Virtua Fighter II (seriously, this game is way better than Tekken)
Burning Rangers
Steep Slope Sliders (I still haven't seen a better snowboarding game, gameplay-wise)
Virtual On
Winter Heat & Athlete Kings (the best sports games ever, IMHO)
Virtua Cop 1 & 2

Man...what a great machine. The funny thing is that all of my mates would say the Saturn sucked and the PS ruled, but everyone preferred to come over to my house to play videogames...

As an RPG addict, I'd love to own a copy. They go for $150+ on ebay though. Someday when I'm feeling silly and my wife is in a particularly good mood.

Is backing up a Saturn game as simple as a straight copy with a burner? I don't ask for bootleg purposes, but because I'd probably want to make copies of an expensive game like that and use the burns rather than the original disc. That's what I do with all the CDs I put in my car. Can I play the copy without any hardware hacks or boot cartridges?

Yep Saturn games can be straight copies, much like playstation games. Not that I know anything about that stuff

Not sure how good of a program Nero would be for this, I grow up in the era of CDR-Win and DiscJuggler, might want to use Alcohol 120%.

There are Modchips out for saturn but can be pretty hard to find at times, I also believe there was a memory card that worked like modchips.

oh that might be what I am thinking of, and that will not let you play backups to my knowledge.

I'm not sure...I only had to buy it

It was pretty difficult to get, even when it was released. I think mine was imported from the UK...

For me, the N64 is one of the most underrated consoles. Everyone hated it because it used cartridges and there weren't many games for it - and yes, some of them were really crap (Superman, anyone?). I remember when I bought mine in 98, I was in a shop and the guy working there was trying to convince me to buy the Playstation because it had more games. I looked over and just saw a crapload of Final Fantasy and Fighter-type games, looked back and said, "But they're all shit."

Anyway, the graphics were better than Playstation IMO, and the games were better too.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

Ugh. The PS1 library was completely overloaded with bad Final Fantsasy and Bad Street Fighter clones, and it may be one of the most overrated consoles. Sure it had some good games here and there, but there was so much crap.

As always, Nintendo has been about quality over quantity since day 1, and their library shows this.

Unfortunately, the third parties only care about which console will make them the most money. Which is why the Gamecube's games have been reduced to a trickle and why Nintendo *HAS* to be awesome.
