Most Underrated Console System

For me, I think it was the Genesis. That system was pretty darn slick. The game selection was quite good considering the competition from SNES. Sonic the Hedgehog was a favorite. I remember I sold my first system so I could buy an engagement ring for the person I was with at the time. It ended a year and 1/2 later. Boy I miss that system....

The Genesis was a Megadrive over here, I actually bought one about 6 months ago off e-bay, and a stack of games, really really cheap love playing those retro games, some of them are so addictive my favs are Strider Streets of Rage 1 2 and Space Harrier,

Didnt mind the SNES they only game I really liked were Mario Kart and SuperMario World and the Super Star Wars ones(but they were so so difficult)

You ever play a game called Road Rash for Genesis? It was a motorcycle racing game where you could actually hit people with weapons and stuff to knock them off their bikes. Animals in the road also presented interesting obstacles. That game was way ahead of it's time. They came out with a pc version that just wasn't that good.

Yeah I remember Road Rash I am fan of that it was a good game and enjoyed playing it , I think they made a follow up for the Megadrive/Genesis Road Rash 2, i also love a go or two of Super Hang-On which was just bike racing without the obstacles,

I love those retro games they were for there time so advanced, even though the games of today are so so more advanced technically i actually find some of these "older" games more fun to play.

The Atari Lynx. I guess technically it was a portable, and not a console, but still. It had 16 bit color graphics, when the major home console was the NES. Technically it blew the game boy out of the water, but alas, it was made by Atari and had very few third-party game support. But there were still some good games for it, such as California Games, Battlezone 2000, Ninja Gaiden and Gauntlet.

The Atari XE. Looked just like a computer, you could run all the great games (Joust, Frogger, Millipede, etc.), plus you could write animation programs on it.

Hm. Both the Dreamcast and the Gamecube have some *GREAT* games that haven't sold well, like Soul Calibur and Ikaruga.

But the Genesis was a good system too. If you get a chance to play that Battle Toads/Double Dragon crossover game, do it!

We have a Game Cube at home and love it. I think Nintendo has a great philosophy about gaming...a standard tv will only support a resolution so high, so they concentrate on game quality over system hardware. HDTV is not yet prevelant enough to have justified support in the GameCube. Revolution had better be ready, though.

FYI: The Gamecube edition of Soul Caliber 2 was the best selling of the 3 versions.
Gamecube edition had Link.
Playstation 2 edition had Hihatchi(sp?) from Tekken.
XBox edition had Spawn.

WE SHOULD GET A MOD FOR ROAD RASH AND CALL IT THE MANGLER BROS. RIDE AGAIN.

I'd hardly think that Megadrive/Genesis was an underrated console. I mean, it and Super NES were in a pretty hot competition for the first half of the '90s. It was big! It was huge! I never had one, but still...

I think the most underrated console was Virtual Boy. It's the only Nintendo system I don't own, but I wanted it so bad. Sure, it's not perfect virtual reality, but I thought it was pretty cool from the store demos I played. And its failure caused Nintendo to severely punish Gunpei Yokoi (who also invented Game and Watch, the whole concept of a control pad as opposed to a joystick, and, of course Game Boy) who was killed by a car a few years later.

Very sad.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I'd have to rank the Dreamcast as the most underrated console of all time. An amazing list of RPGs, really kickass 2D and 3D fighters, exciting racing games, and a lot of great platformers.

House of the Dead 2 with a light gun. Brilliant.

Yet Sega goes under because nobody buys it

3D0 and the Atari systems and the Neo Geo dont even count, they were crap, and as far as the Genesis/Megadrive being underrated,NO WAY this was a great system, you had the sonic series, road rash, golden axe, revenge of shinobi etc,it was equal to SNES,now the system that was underrated in my opinion was the Turbo Grafx, now this was a cool system with alot of very neat games, like Bonk,Night Creatures,SplatterHouse etc.i have ALL these systems plus alot not mentioned, but like i said in another post in a different thread, now i play ALL these games from these different systems on my XBOX,and it is great.
so in my opinion the turbo grafx system including xpress and turbo duo were the most underrated!

Vectrex. Who else had the nerve to market a vector graphics system to the public, and the 3D mod added colour to the mix. Besides, you didn't have to fight over the TV to play.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Virtual Boy anyone?

Only games I remember playing on it were Mario Tennis and Wario World, and they were both awesome.

No, the Virtual boy sucked, but not because of the quality of the games.

The red and black graphics made many people sick, and it even damaged the eyes of some players. Not only that, but besides the games you mentioned, there weren't any good ones, and there were only like twenty or less total games for the system.
