I suppose I’m most satisfied by the overall plot and writing that I feel has fully utilized these characters to their full potential.
Dom pls.

Nothing about the sequel trilogy is disappointing to me. The most satisfying aspect is after enduring the long dark time of the prequels, Star Wars is finally good again.

I suppose the most disappointing thing about it is that I’m still not convinced this story needed to be told.
I feel like you could say the same thing about Empire Strikes Back too. In my opinion, the only time that a story being unnecessary is frustrating is if it isn’t compelling or isn’t handled well, like the prequels. A lot of people said that the prequels didn’t work primarily because the story didn’t need to be told, but any story can be interesting so I don’t really think that it should affect someone’s opinion too much.

Most disappointing is the decision to go back to a ragtag rebels versus oppressive empire style of story. It would have been much more interesting for the remnants of the Empire to be the small guerilla group fighting the established New Republic.
I’d say I agree with this too. That’s what I wish they’d have done and I’d throw the third Death Star in with this criticism too.

Good point. This is actually the most disappointing aspect of the ST for myself.
You could kind of view the three trilogies in the following manner if you feel similar to how I do:
Prequel Trilogy: Good Overall Story, Bad Characters
Original Trilogy: Good Overall Story, Good Characters
Sequel Trilogy: Lackluster Overall Story, Good Characters
Just my two cents but obviously doesn’t apply if you like the ST story.

Yeah, I expected for many to disagree 😉
I will admit that among characters I don’t like would be Rose, parts of Rey (TLJ helped her character IMO), Phasma (obviously), Hux in TFA, Snoke in TFA.
But Finn, Kylo Ren, Han Solo, Rey in TLJ, and Luke are highlights for me in the ST.
oh, i love poe, tfa hux and kylo ren. finn is meh, the rest is pretty much bad imo.

Poe is awesome partly I think because of his enthusiasm. He is probably the most likable ST character IMO.

Exactly, I don’t find the sequel trilogy’s story to be all that compelling. And that goes along with what’s already been said: A return to square one (kind of), underutilized (Phasma, Snoke, Poe, Finn) or misused (Hux, Holdo, Finn) characters (even if they’re good characters), and just not being all that interesting, honestly.
Most disappointing
Most satisfying
Most disappointing
- way too similar story-wise to the original trilogy
- The Last Jedi completely negates many story points from the previous movie(s)
- chaos behind the scenes (dumping George as the “executive consultant” and ignoring his planned stories, constant dumping of directors, even if they shot already the almost complete movie etc.)
- no explanations (after 2 movies I have no clue who the resistance is and who the new order are)
- no likeable new characters, in TFA I really liked Rey and Finn, but I honestly don’t like them in TLJ.
Disagree on all counts.
Most satisfying
- the look. After seeing a trilogy filled with green screen footage poorly composited over CGI backgrounds it was a PLEASURE to watch real sets, real locations, real props etc.
- a nice combination of practical and CGI effects - I was pleasantly surprised by the fact they used a puppet Yoda
- cinematography - TLJ is IMHO the most beautiful looking Star Wars movie
Hard agree on all counts, especially the last one there.

Most Disappointing Aspect of Sequel Trilogy: the overrated screenwriter of Argo is going to co-write Ep IX.
(you can list it in your “Most Satisfying Aspect” list if you want 😃)

Oh yeah I forgot how we landed on Argo. Granted.
JEDIT: Although you’re projecting into the future, so it’s not really relevant for this thread…yet.
Not my fault, it’s written “trilogy” whereas it’s only a duology so far.
Most Disappointing:
Instead of a sequel trilogy that is a natural progression from the original three movies (with events that would logically proceed from the state of affairs as we left them), they decided to do a hard reset so they could make a soft reboot depicting another Empire vs. Rebels affair.
Most Satisfying:
I mostly liked how they handled Kylo Ren.

It’s also written “dissapointing” which is not a word, but you figured out what that meant.
Best thing is 100% Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. One of the best characters to come out of the franchise since 1977.
Worst thing is probably how the OT characters have been written so far and the realization that I just have to accept that really nothing will come close to the OT and that they won’t all be incredible masterpieces.

I really liked Kylo Ren in both movies too, but TFA Kylo and TLJ Kylo feel like they’re not even the same incarnation of the character. I do love him in both TFA and TLJ though.

Really? I’m interested to hear why. I feel like his overall arc between two movies is compelling and really well bridged. Everything that motivates him and drives him seems consistent throughout and he plays it as such. I’ll admit that him in the Last Jedi is so much better than him in TFA, but mainly cause of the richer material that the character had to work with in the middle installment of the trilogy.
I also disagree that TFA Kylo and TLJ Kylo feel any different, but I can’t say the same for Hux. Felt like they pulled a “Last Crusade” Marcus Brody on him for TLJ.

They definitely did just that.
Captain Canady was about five times the character that Hux was in TLJ and had a fraction of the screen time.

I agree. I haven’t watched Last Crusade in a long time but Brody has always stuck out like a sore thumb, even when I was a kid.

I was being a bit hyperbolic. Rian apparently decided to ignore the Vader wannabe aspect of the character, which was a major part of Kylo, so that kind of passes the message that he wanted to just not care as much about consistency to me.
I should rewatch TLJ and TFA maybe back to back once I get my TLJ Blu-ray and think more about the matter, but yeah, that’s mainly what I’m talkig about. I believe there’s more but I can’t think of anything right now.

I guess I always preferred Brody in TLC too.
