Models for The Characters Leia & Luke Skywalker?

Author
Time

Society has always had role models and Icons. In the 1970ties possibly the most admired twins with a role model image was Richard and Karen Carpenter.

When ever I see Star Wars the original trilogy I cannot other than believe that the script writer and or producer must have modelled Leia and Luke Skywalker on the image of Karen and Richard Carpenter.'

Is there anywhere in the Star Wars lore any hint or indication of this or is this all in my mind only?

Info anyone?

I got no responses but quite a few viewers,  I resurface this issue as I am really curiuous from a sociological (I think) perspective - how trends and attitudes cross fertilize.

Can anyone think of where I can do research on this? - Maybe a mindscan of the script writer's brain - he may not realize himself the above connection until I ask him. Anyone has Lukas' email address? The worst thing that may happen is that he does not answer and that does not hurt

Seeing as Luke and Leia as twins was a last minute decision in the eighties when the duo's career was already winding down and came out the year Karen died I can't see the connection.

There is more connection to Carrie and Karen through Leave Yesterday Behind than between Leia and Karen through Star Wars.

Indeed I see more of a connection between their cover of Klaatu's Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

The time scale is roughly the same but at least the subject was the same.

It's probably unfair but the general perception of the band is that Karen was the band and Richard was the guy in the background barely if ever noticed.

You can't really apply this to Luke and Leia, where Luke arguably grows to completely overshadow the character finally and conveniently revealed to be his sister.

Show people a picture of Richard out of context and most people (even people around at the time) would struggle to identify him. The same can not be said for Karen.

I remember seeing the clip of Sacheen Littlefeather at the '73 Oscars and thinking how Leia-like she was. George would've just been writing or about to write the first draft of the movie at that time, so I wouldn't be surprised if it had some sort of influence on him.
