Sorry, Holiday Special is the worst of the worst. It may have the original cast that doesn't act as blandly, but... no. It's horrendous.
Midichlorians are worse.

Midichlorians are just a poisonous gas. What's the big deal?
Better than Midichoirians, for damn sure.
After very careful and lengthy analysis, I might have to concede that TPM is a slightly better movie than the Holiday Special. However, to the original question, midichlorians vs. Life Day... that's not easy. Life Day is vomit inducing, whereas midichlorians are icepick-inducing.
Another related question... what's worse, "Jedi Rocks" or "Ode to Life Day"? That's not easy either.

Think of it this way folks; which of these two ideas is more damaging to, or contributed more to the ruination of, Star Wars? Then the correct answer becomes clear.
Remember, this thread is not "Holiday Special versus TPM", but Midichlorians versus Life Day.

As concepts, midichlorians are infinitely worse than a wookiee Life Day.
But the Holiday Special simply isn't watchable. My local library had a VHS of it to loan (weird, I know) and I excitedly brought it home and I literally couldn't watch for more than about 10-15 minutes. Feeling anger about midichlorians is better than intense boredom.
I actually was reminded of the Holiday Special today as I stumbled across "Legends of the Superheroes" for the first time today and imagined it would be in the same painfully boring style (it's actually pretty funny).
The blue elephant in the room.
Which I'd rather sit down and watch:
TPM (I guess...) Or TRM if I can choose a not-yet-existant fan edit.
Which is least damaging to the Star Wars brand:
Holiday Special
IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

No tears please. It's a waste of good suffering.

You're the one who forces stuff on us like "pick from midichlorians and Life Day."

Honestly, midichlorians are worse. They attempt to justify scientifically what should only be taken as is. As for Life Day, I think a day of celebration is natural to any developing species; once the species develops that to be thankful for, it normally has some happiness, which could lead to celebration. Of course, showing it was completely unnecessary, and, having watched the Holiday Special only once, I think that's how it should stay.

Sorry but Jedi Rocks is better, not to say that any musical number should have been in ROTJ in the first place, but Carrie Fisher singing...
At least you can mute Carrie Fisher. There's no way to mute this...
Life Day. It's a far worse deal (to me) to know Chewey gets involved in this kind of stuff (and dedicating 2 solid hours of scenes to it!) than knowing people communicate with the Force through meaningless bacterias we never see.
I saw the bacteria but then I always sit right near the screen (wearing a Marge Simpson wig) with a magnifying glass and I eat carrots.

Frink, why do you post such disturbing images? In any case, looking at that picture, you may be right. I change my vote to Life Day song as less distressing.

Exactly. How can one vote without all the information, as disturbing as it might be?
One's memories can repress that which is seriously disturbing... Of course, pictures can retrieve that which is better left unremembered. It's all your fault, Frink! FRINK!!!

No, just nudity. This picture is much worse than nudity, but it's allowed.

You know what I watched the Holiday Special again, and I realized that Life Day isn't what makes it bad. The fact that it doesn't focus on most of the main characters and instead on the activities of three random family members of Chewbacca really is what makes it a bore to watch. My two cents.
