Well the job has been given to a 'proper' writer & I am excited to see what happens.
Lando may even be back

I'm more hopeful but so many respected screenwriters have got the Lindelof treatment that I won't grin until the final credit rolls up.
Just as long as he can "write his way out of a paper bag", unlike some schmuck we once knew. ;)

If the films need to pick up one thing from the PT it's Padme.
Luke has had his relationship with his father dragged out over three films.
The character of Padme kind of rolled into the dirt in ROTS.
Wouldn't Luke want to know more about her?
Wouldn't Leia become closer to her fragmented memories of her now that the Empire is gone?
If the OT was about absent fathers I think this one should be about absent mothers.
Both are mythical tropes and it would be interesting to explore the Star Wars universe from a more female perspective.
In my opinion, there would need to be some 'closure' regarding Leia and her father - whom she only ever knew as Darth Vader - before the Luke coming to terms with mother thing. ROTJ, in my opinion, glossed over the whole matter.

A fine point.
I know they went over it in the EU, but it would certainly be interesting to see where the movies took it.
Though I'm guessing that twenty-some years later, a lot of this stuff will have already been addressed in the interim.

The horror in Leia's voice when she tries to balance Luke with her former torturer is telling.
Especially as it comes before the revelation that she always knew she was Luke's sister.
Leia being emotionally warped by the OT really would make for a fun performance out of Carrie.

VERY interesting......
Maybe if it took place right after Jedi, but the indications are this is going to be 30 years later to make the actors' ages match up. It'd be weird if everyone was suddenly saying, "Hey, remember 33 years ago when..." and then acting on that.

Do you constantly find references to 1932 in your everyday life?
Mrs. Wibbsey won't shut up about it.

But if we jumped forwards to 30 years later and the saw where the dominoes fell? That is what sort of happens between ROTS and ANH only a shorter time jump.
Just watched the end of ROTJ, can't see the dominoes being dropped

Maybe you just need to open your eyes/mind a bit.

Really surprised Robot Chicken hasn't done a sketch about this scene yet. ;)
And I've suddenly realized that there is as much choking going on as there are limbs being chopped off in these movies. O_O
Where were you in '77?

Just a tidbit....
Now we can play Supersuttlewatch and try and pick the hokey from the cokey all over again.
