She’s had a lot of special modifications over the years.
So now that TFA has hit the shelves and our dvd/bluray players, i have been watching it a lot. As with some of you here, i have been planning my own Edit of TFA, and one of the thing that i have been thinking of doing is redoing some of the sound effects. Most notably during the Falcon/Tie Fighter chase. I noticed that the guns on the Falcon have a very different sound to them compared to ANH. I have scoured the internet for the very specific sound that i hear from ANH and i have been unable to find anything that sounds like it in any database or youtube video, or even the SW official soundboard. so my question is this, does anyone here know where i can find an accurate sound effect for the Falcon?

true i never thought of that

Any story changes you have in mind?

just the basics that most people are doing. overall i was very please with the movie but just a few things kinda bothered me. this is a short list of things i was planning:
as far as the Falcon cannon sounds go, i think i would still like for them to sound the way that they did in ANH since this is the only movie where they are fired.
ANH Bluray:

TFA:

Official Soundboard:

Other SFX:

Battlefront sounds the closest to me:

to me the ANH Cannons have a “sprinkler” sound to it, which is usually attributed to the TIE fighter but the sound in TFA has a deep “thwip” sound to it.

- possibly trim Finn’s reaction to the village and his “friend” being killed (i can understand him becoming overwhelmed, but he is a stormtrooper and you’d think he would be used to death)
That was actually Finn’s first mission as stormtrooper. It’s confirmed later in the movie when he confesses to Rey who he really is. He says to her, “On my first battle, I made a choice : I wasn’t going to kill for them.” So even though Finn was a stormtrooper, he had never actually killed anyone at that point in his life.

you know it’s a shame someone in the forums hasn’t made an archive of all of the SW sound effects 😉

i realize that, however i dont know if i like the fisheye lens and shaky-cam they do once Finn’s buddy is killed. that is what i would be trimming.

I don’t remember a Mellenium Falcon in TFA.

They are fired in ROTJ too and sound the same (To my ears), although the sound is likely no more clean than in SW.
VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.
Well we will see how long this will stay up because it is youtube but this is the replacement of the sound to fit with the OT
“You can’t polish a turd. But you can shape it to look like candy.”
I’d leave the bit abou Kylo referring to Vader as “grandfather”. If the idea is to remove this to preserve the Ben Solo reveal, I still think “grandfather” would work well, leading the audience to believe Kylo to be the son of Luke…only to reveal him to be the son of Leia.
Just my two cents. This is also running under the assumption that someone would watch this edit without seeing the original beforehand.
Well, that didnt take long for them to take it down, this is the new link to my new SFX for the Falcon Chase scene. let me know what you think, if I need changes ect.
if you would like to use this sound for your edit, please PM me and I will send you a link to the uncompressed 5.1 wav file
“You can’t polish a turd. But you can shape it to look like candy.”
oh man, that last clip really sounds great! nice work
I thought about what what you mentioned about the sound in my edit, but I am going to take it a different direction and apply the newer gun sounds to the OT. Might work better that way because of quality of audio to sample from .
Sounds pretty good, but the sound gets repetitive, like it’s been looped. I wonder if there’d be a good way to blend the old and new sounds?
I agree, though, that the last burst of fire at the end is sublime in that video.
