May 19th Avoid Gas Buying

Subject: May 19th Avoid Gas Buying

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT TO THEM" DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

WAITING ON THIS ADMIINSTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
"May the force be with you!"

I'll do it here in Brazil, and promote this idea, but only if you guys promise me you'll participate in the next Buy Nothing Day (november), and the next TV turnoff week (april).

As long as Buy Nothing Day doesn't coincide with pay day, I can go for it; otherwise, gotta get groceries.

Okay people, for the record, Gas Companies base their profits on monthly, quarterly, and annual sales, not daily. One day of not buying gas ain't gonna do shit. It just means that they have an off day that will be made up for with more purchases in subsequent days. People need gas and that's all there is to it. The only thing that is going to make gas companies suffer is the purchasing of more hybrid vehicles or the successful launch of hydrogen cell-powered cars. Besides, how many times have people done these stupid "do not buy gas on such and such day" e-mail petitions only to have them fail miserably? If people need gas, they're gonna buy it regardless of what day it is.

He's right. If you don't put gas on your car that day, you'll eventually put gas some other day. It'll be a bizarre day for gas stations, having no client whatsoever, but then the next week they would have a little bit more clients, and it would compensate it.

Sadly, the same would happen to buy nothing day (it would cause a little bit more damage tho), BUT the TV turnoff week would work, if everyone did it.

I'm not so sure about Buy Nothing Day, as I don't usually participate on it (demonstrators who tried to stop people to shop was arrested and/or beaten, and I don't want to be arrested and/or beaten), but TV turnoff week works. Ratings go sligthly down that week. It envolves a number of schools around the world, in which the children must not watch TV for that week, and than write about how their week was, and what changed in their lifes, and those experiences are shared with students around the world. It is backed up and publicized by a number of groups. TV stations never, EVER talk about it for obvious reasons, except CNN who agrees to air a 15 second ad about TV turn off week every year; so that is why people don't know much about it. But it's always on the newspapers, on the internet, on the radio... Next year (if I'm still here) I'll tell you guys about it and invite you all to participate. Don't worry you'll still be able to watch SW, you can't watch broadcasted TV, you can watch videos on that week (altough it's better to do outdoor activities during that week).

A no-TV day during sweeps would definitely have an effect. And broadcasters would hate it. Their ad rates are based on viewership at specific points in time (months of February, May, and November). If you were to even just severely cut back your viewing during those times, it would hurt them badly. No, you wouldn't get everyone to agree to do it, but a large number could have a disastrous effect. There is no making up for not watching during sweeps by watching at another time. Doesn't work that way in TV.

Even not hurting the TV network's pockets, it's a good thing to do, not to watch TV for a while. TV has a great influence over our lifes, so much we mold our own lifes around it, and think what it tells us to think. It elects presidents, it makes us hate people and love people, makes us belive in killing...

Sorry, I was running practically on fumes on the 19th.
If I hadn't gotten gas, I probably wouldn't have been able to make it to another gas station.

Besides, gas had dropped in price by $.10 in my area. If I was going to fill up, that was going to be the best time.

Ah, don't worry about that.

Hmn maybe I should consider stop using my car and buying a segway.

The worst thing is that while we play in "Do Not Buy Gas Day", those poor children in Africa usually have "Do Not Eat Day"
I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

Ah, snoopes, also known as "right-winged-fox-news-alike-propaganda-disguized-as-an-urban-legend-website". I mean, have you seen the ones about Bush and/or the army? And the recent ones about senator Kerry?

Right Winged? Where the hell'd you get that? If anything, this has proven to be one of the more unbiased sites I've seen. They present pros and cons on both sides of the fence. You call it right winged yet tell me to check out what they have to say about candidates from both parties and they have positive and negative entries on both. Support that claim.

When they talk about the "major league asshole" episode with Bush and Cheney, they devote long paragraphs saying how justified that act was, and how much of an ass Kerry was when he called a bodyguard a "son of a bitch", in a text I belived to be written by O'Reilly in his worse moments: http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/bushcuss.asp

The Navy Cross, established by an Act of Congress in 1919, is the naval service's second highest award and may be awarded to any person who, while serving with the Navy or Marine Corps, distinguishes himself/herself in action by extraordinary heroism not justifying an award of the Medal of Honor. To earn a Navy Cross the act to be commended must be performed in the presence of great danger or at great personal risk and must be performed in such a manner as to render the individual highly conspicuous among others of equal grade, rate, experience, or position of responsibility.

On 6 May 2004, Marine Capt. Brian R. Chontosh of Rochester, N.Y., received the Navy Cross "for extraordinary heroism while serving as Combined Anti-Armor Platoon Commander, Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom March 25, 2003."

The details of the heroism that earned Capt. Chontosh his medal are provided on the Marine Corps News web site:

How is this right wing? Sounds like a rather nonpartisan presentation of facts pertaining to the case at hand.

On 9 January 2003, 31-year-old Staff Sergeant Mike McNaughton of Denham Springs, Louisiana, a member of the Louisiana Army National Guard, was serving with the 769th Engineer Battalion in Afghanistan, scouting for land mines. Suddenly, according to Sgt. McNaughton, "I closed my eyes for a second going up in the air and then landing on the ground, and that's when I just — I knew exactly what happened." Sgt. McNaughton had stepped on an anti-personnel mine, and in the resulting blast he lost his right leg, as well as the middle and ring fingers of his right hand and a chunk of his left leg. Sgt. McNaughton was evacuated to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany for immediate treatment and later flown to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., for follow-on care.

In the months since his wounding, Sgt. McNaughton has undergone at least 11 separate operations as a result of his injuries and has been fitted with a thin, robotic prosthetic shaft to replace his right leg. While recuperating at Walter Reed, Sgt. McNaughton was honored to receive a visit from President Bush. One of the subjects of common interest they discussed was running, and the President extended an invitation to Sgt. McNaughton to come running with him once he was up and about.

The President's invitation posed something of a dilemma for Sgt. McNaughton: "He said give him a call and we'll go running. How are you supposed to just call the president?" Fortunately, Sgt. McNaughton's doctor at Walter Reed was also a doctor for the President, and the two men were able to keep in touch through her.

In April 2004, Sgt. McNaughton and his family made the trip to Washington, and — true to his word — the President went for a run with him. According to Baton Rouge television station WAFB, Sgt. McNaughton described his return visit with President Bush thusly:

Again, I'm not seeing right wing here.

I can go on...

Being relatively left leaning (moreso left than right), I'm not feeling as though Snopes gives more preferential treatment to the right at all. Your last paragraph just goes to show that they will post information about either candidate with the same non-discriminatory light.

I still don't see where you're going with this.
