LOS ANGELES - Chris Penn, a younger brother of Sean Penn who played supporting roles in films such as "Reservoir Dogs" and "Starsky & Hutch," was found dead in his Santa Monica home, authorities said. Police do not suspect foul play. An autopsy is planned for today.
Penn's body was discovered in bed inside the condominium on Ocean Avenue, said Capt. Ed Winter of the county coroner's office. He said the actor's housekeeper called authorities.

There were no obvious signs of foul play, Lt. Frank Fabrega said. Autopsy results were pending. Police said Penn was 40 years old, though several celebrity Web sites list his age as 43.

Sad to see. Penn was never in the best of health, and never had the critical accolades that Sean had, but he was a very good actor.

Quite shocking. RIP...

Do they know if it's a natural cause or something? Because, since they so rapidly discarded foul play, it could be suicide or drug use, which is sad...

Man, I just remember how hard I laughed at that scene in Corky Romano when Chris Penn, Peter Berg, and their fellow mobsters show up to save Corky from the Skinheads all to the tune of Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It." Classic scene.

Anyone ever see "The Funeral" with him and Christopher Walken?

God, he was so good in that movie. Penn was always beleivable, and always underrated.

A very unfortunate loss for the film community.

From Internet Movie Database -

Reservoir Dogs actor Chris Penn died accidentally from an enlarged heart and the effects of a combination of various medications, according to autopsy and toxicology tests. The Los Angeles coroner's office released a statement late Monday, confirming the reasons behind the shock death of Sean Penn's younger brother in his Santa Monica, California, apartment on January 24. The tests labeled the primary causes of death as "nonspecific cardiomyopathy" (an oversized heart) with the "effects of multiple medication intake." Chief coroner investigator Craig Harvey says, "There is absolutely no indication that this is anything but an accident. We know he had several prescriptions, including promethazine with codeine, which featured predominantly in his death. We don't know how much he ingested or when. There are a lot of 'what ifs' to be factored in." Chris, 40, starred in hit films Rush Hour, Starsky & Hutch, True Romance and The Funeral, for which he won the Volpi Cup at the 1996 Venice Film Festival.
