Matinee (HDTV2DVD) (Released)

Hello

I’ve got a 8,05 go ts file of the movie Matinee directed by Joe Dante which has been broadcast by Universal HD.
This wonderful movie has only been released region 1 by Image Entertainment not enhanced in widescreen and is only 2.0. The region 2 uk is the same.
So far, I’ve tried to make a dvd with hdtv2dvd. This program allows me to get a 16:9 dvd but resample the sound in stereo though my ts file is 5.1.
Could somebody help me encoding it the right way ?

If someone want to do a special cover, you’re welcome.

I’ll post the dvd in a newsgroup when the project will be complete.

Thanx.

Someone PLEASE help this guy out! I gotta see Matinee in its proper aspect ratio again, that was a really fun theater experience.

Please keep us posted with updates!

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

You could try a program that is also free called SUPER converter.

scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the program

I've actually used HDTV2DVD plenty of times and it always uses the source audio and doesn't change it.

I've just remembered I've asked HDTV2DVD to make a dvd5. Maybe that's why it resampled the sound.

Retry.

I let you know asap.

It's worth mentioning the Laserdisc had the complete "Mant!" movie footage as a extra. Ironically, this footage got a better transfer than the movie itself did!

I just figured out what is going on.
The soundmix is actually 2.0 as with other UHD broadcasts and not 5.1

The soundmix is actually 2.0 as with other UHD broadcasts and not 5.1

HDTV2DVD says the ts file is :

Audio type : Ac3
Sample rate : 48000
Audio bitrate : 384 kbps

Do you mean this is AC3 (DD) 2.0 ?

I've just remembered I've asked HDTV2DVD to make a dvd5. Maybe that's why it resampled the sound.

Still resampling without asking a dvd5...

So maybe Zeromancer has find the clue and the ts file is DD 2.0

I just checked by opening up one of the .ts files in powerdvd and selected show information and it list the audio as DD5.1 384kbps

What program did you use to join all the ts files into one?
HDTVtoMPEG2?

I just ran one of the .ts in HDTV2DVD 0.4 ( http://www.svcd2dvd.com/HDTV2DVD/ )and it the audio output was DD5.1

Yes this means it IS DD 5.1

There's a known issue with UHD, they always show DD 5.1 but there's only sound coming from the left and right channel sometimes. Only way to be sure is to listen, or decode all the channels to mono and test.

*EDIT* Just checked my copy, extracted the last half of the movie to ac3 then used BeSweet to create 6 mono wav files, nothing on the rear surrounds or center only the front 2 channels.

I can still remember reading the review of this in Video Watchdog and waiting for the day I got my laserdisc player. I never did manage to get it on LD and of course the current DVD doesn't preserve any of this. Now if anyone has this to preserve *hint hint*.

Unfortunately, I don't have the laserdisc. At the very least, I have a DVD of just Mant that I think is LD -> VHS -> DVD. But someone should really track down the LD.

I seem to remember this film coming out, but I'm pretty sure I missed it. Amazing that there are sellers on Amazon who are selling the out of print DVD from $35 to $148.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.

Hey guys, I was talking to a friend who seems to remember watching Matinee on laserdisc with his father, I should know hopefully in about a week when his parents get back from vacation and we can sift through their AV collection.

Actually I was able to check today, I have the Matinee LD that's 3 discs and lists MANT along with Atomovision, Insects and X-Rays, The Great E-Mant-Cipator, Iprison-Mant, A thing Called Bill, Look out behind you! and The mant in the white suit. Let me know if I can help out in anyway.

I released this a year ago BLAX30: Matinee: Letterboxed Edition (LD to DVD), I mailed off about 10 copies last year.

The difference is there is now a high resolution source to do a proper anamorphic transfer of the movie, the extras however will still have to be sourced off the LD.

So...then, what's happening? If the disc (complete with Mant! features) is already in existence, is there a torrent?

It is already out there and in active PIF chains, it takes a while to get all my DVD's uploaded (I've uploaded about 120 DVD's to date) BUT with the HDTV2DVD why get the LD version? But on that note how is the HDTV2DVD version coming along??

I guess it's mostly the extra features people are interested in. Maybe a torrent of just the extra features from the LD would be an option? The matinee HD version is still available on usenet(with giganews anyway, 74 days old now) so it's still possible to get the HD version but the extra features are nowhere to be found.
