Mando EP3: A New Path (A Book of Boba Fett Edit) [RELEASED] — Page 12

After watching todays episode it occurred to me that it might be better moving all the Mando/Grogu storyline specific content from TBOBF out of your edit and combining them with the first two episodes of this new season to make a third chapter in your Mandalorian story. That way the Boba Fett story could be its own thing (with a brief supporting appearance from Djarin) and the forthcoming six new Mandalorian episodes could form a chapter four. Just a thought.

Since all the shows already intertwine with each other, I’d say it’s better long term doing it the way Smudger’s doing it. Combining it all under one banner is better than having .5’s or separate titled movies you have to insert into certain spots to get the full viewing experience.

This is a consideration and I’ll see how the new season plays out. At the moment the plan is to move the Luke-Grogu scenes out of this edit and into episode 4 (I’ve just started a new thread). However, if there is an obvious time skip during season 3 and enough material for 1.5 movies I will certainly play around removing the Boba material.

Hi Smudger, I watched the trilogy this past week and it has been a blast. The amount of content of these TV series makes it hard to enjoy the whole story in a short time. Having the option now to “binge” in a matter of days instead of weeks really serves the audience who wants to revisit the overall story. Thank you for your contributions. You have done a masterful job, and I’m glad that you have fun doing this.

I have scanned over the original post and comments and didn’t see any mention of the “T” missing scene frames that occur often in Episode 3, so just wanted to mention just in case you somehow weren’t aware.

Thanks for the feedback. I hadn’t noticed the missed frames. Looks like I’ve accidentally deleted the letterbox effect file! 😬. I’ve replaced them and will re-render and upload it.

I actually loved this weeks episode. So nice to finally get some New Republic content. However, I have no idea how it will fit into these edits and I suspect we won’t discover its relevance until the end of the season.

This week’s content was amazing IMO, so awesome seeing Coruscant post-RotJ. And not only “seeing it”, but the story / character development was actually pretty damn good as well! This is just how I love Star Wars!

Maybe it could be trimmed a little and put in between Grogu with Luke and Grogu being back with Mando? That way we wouldn’t lose this preciosity of some much needed New Republic antics, and it would even help with that weird timeframe S2/TBoBB/S3.

But - and it’s a big BUT - we’ll have to wait and see how it ends up being relevant to the overall plot of the season, I guess? Maybe it’s gonna come back big time, maybe it was a one-off thing and we’ll never even see these characters again, who knows…

Half way through Mando: A New Path. There seems to be some issues. Through out the film there is a RED screen with a letter ‘T’ that shows up.
Has this been fixed… I watched the first two in one day and was ready to watch Episode Three…

Hello Smudger,

Reading this thread, your edit sounds fantastic and like it fixes so many of the problems with the original version. I Would therefore love to have a link please.

Many thanks in advance.

Could I get a link please? If you have a BoBF and Mandalorian Season 3 mashup, I’d also be interested.

PM Sent. Mandalorian S3 will be a separate edit. Unfortunately there is too much material to combine the BOBF material and S3.

I just finished watching this edit and as I have come to expect from Smudger’s work, am very impressed. I don’t really have anything to add that hasn’t already been mentioned in the thread. I very much enjoy the flow of the narrative, and am very thankful for how much time, effort and creativity you put into your work. I am looking forward to seeing how all of the edits evolve as more content is added. On a slightly different topic, I know in the past you have said you don’t want to revisit your Clone Wars edits, and I am sure you are tired of the question. However, with you dipping your metaphorical toe back into animated editing with the Bad Batch, has your position softened on this? I know I and many others would love to see your completed vision for that series. I do understand that BB is a much less onerous lift than CW but I can’t help but hold out hope! Regardless, thank you for this edit and for your willingness to share. Looking forward to Episode IV!

Thanks so much for the review. I often think about revisiting Clone Wars especially seasons 6 and 7, but sadly time is always the limiter. I’m just about keeping up with the live action releases…

If you wanted to collaborate on more moviefied Clone Wars I’d be down… I’ve put a LOT of thought into them 😉

I bet you have! I have two half-finished episodes… one for season 6 and one for season 7, but I doubt I’ll have time Eddie TBH.

For the redux version, I know you’ve said elsewhere that you wouldn’t try to artifically lengthen the gap between Din & Grogu’s separation. My only counter to that is that, even with the backpedaling done by Lucasfilm, TBoBF happened one year after Mando season 2. Maybe after Luke takes Grogu & Boba kills Bib Fortuna you could insert a “One Year Later” text in the “far far away” font?

Hi Smudger, I’ve just watched the first three of your Mandalorian edits and I’m amazed at how expertly crafted your work is. I enjoyed the first two eps a lot and will definitively be using them to rewatch the series from now on, but it was in this third one that I felt your work shone brighter. The Book of Boba Fett was when I started to feel the quality declining, but your edit managed to save it for me. The improvement is truly remarcable, especially with regards to Boba’s character.

Firstly, I loved how you interweved Din and Boba’s plotlines, it improves the pace on both of them and gives a weight to the character’s reunion at the end.

On the Boba side of the story, I love how Boba really comes across as menancing and competent in your edit. Actually, I’m impressed how you’ve managed to make everyone come across as menancing, even the Hutt Twins and the Mayor. I’m also delighted that you’ve managed to downplay how pathetically understaffed the source material made Boba, I didn’t even notice it for the most part. Other marked improvement was the biker gang. I swear I was preparing myself to cringe when they showed up, but you edited that scene so smoothly I ended up respecting Boba a whole lot for the way he recruited them.

On Din’s side of the plot, I loved how spacing his scenes out between Boba’s gives a better sense of time passing, so it didn’t seem like Grogu spent only a few days with Luke, it gives more weight to Grogu and Din’s separation. Lastly, I’m so impressed with how you managed to remove Grogu from the final battle. I’ll be watching your Mando EP4 edit next and I’m super excited to see what you did with it.
