Hi MagnoliaFan- just a quick question (as I'm doing another edit of this)- could you say specifically how you cut Sypho-Dias out of the film and implied someone else?

Thanks!

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side

TM: I'm thinking MagnoliaFan wants to keep that a surprise, but maybe he'll PM you if you ask nicely.

MF, a couple of questions: 1) Are you planning on a similar "Special Edition" of BotF? 2) The Dooku as a Sith option is a nice feature, but will his lightsaber remain yellow?

OK- that never occurred to me.

MagnoliaFan- would it be too much trouble to PM me about it? I'll keep it secret if you'd like.

Thanks so much!

1. Yep... It's just a hell of a lot more work to reconstruct Balance, so I'm doing it second.

2. The Sith Dooku will have a red saber. Basically, you can select between the theatrical ending, Clone War ending, and possibly a third alternate ending.

This sounds interesting. A new version of Balance, Clone War and an edited version of Sith when it's released. We are truly grateful for your talents. I'm curious, did you have to roto Dooku's saber to make it yellow? I just got a job doing some compositing with Digital Fusion (I'm a real padawan on this prog) and wondered how you did that trick.

Oh, btw Biz', you'll be pleased to know that you'll be able to watch CW with Dooku as a Sith if you're so inclined on the new disc. It's not that way in the movie proper, but its a selectable option in the special features.

hey, now that's something.

Do you just not have access to a decent sound editing program and decent mics? Should be pretty easy if you have those two to get a very quality recording of soemone reading back that "alien" dialog if that's the case.

Hell, I could do it if that was the major problem.

look at this. me volunteering to help YOU with one of your fan edits

That is something... hahaha
I knew you weren't all bad, afterall.

I don't have such equipment personally, but I know several people who I'm sure do.

My big thing would be finding voice actors who can really sell it. It crossed my mind to re-record the reversed dialogue phonetically in the beginning. The reason I never did it is that I have this deep seeded dread of it sounding like something from a bad fanfilm.

..dude. If you were ever REALLY worried about your stuff looking like a bad fan-film, you wouldn't have started re-editing the prequels in the first place Isn't the major knock by people who dislike the prequels that it's merely a big-budget fan film at heart?

Bizzle- I know you think my edit is a waste of time, but....

If you have talent with this type of thing and deep down, you'd really like to redub a SW character (but can't for the MagnoliaFan cut) perhaps you could dub Lama-Su for my edit. Maybe? Please?

Touche'...

In all seriousness, say what you will about the acting in the prequels, the few fan films that I've seen still don't hold a candle to them in the acting department (except Troops). Lost in Translation they ain't, but a lot of the fan films I've seen have come off like bad high school plays.

I do find the dubbing idea intriguing, if you think you've got anyone who can pull off characters (and I take a certain sick amusement in the idea of billing Biz' in the credits of edits that he has bashes ).
There's not a lot of characters to redo. Nute, Rune, Lott, Jar Jar, Tarpals, Nass, the pod announcer, & San Hill. I do think EP II would be a far easier undertaking as a starting point than EP I.
I would probably still keep the original reversed audio as a secondary track on the final disc, if this were to work out, for historical purposes.

Hey MF, I'm sure this has been asked before, but what editing software do you use? Me and a buddy of mine are hoping to start shooting a movie soon (it's gonna be based on the book "The Wave" by Todd Strasser, if anybody wants to know; I haven't read it, but my friend's obsessed with it), and it'd be nice to have the right tools to do it with. I'm also saving up for a DVD camera so that editing on the PC would be a hell of a lot easier.

By the way, have you done any other non-"Star Wars" projects?

If you are after a high quality end result then I really suggest you don't get a recordable DVD camera.

Without getting too technical, basically these cameras record in a lower quality format than regular MiniDV cameras as the discs store a whole lot less space.

I also don't really think they would be easier to edit with, editing the DV through Firewire would be simpler with any decent video editor.

Ooh, a laserdisc. The Cheat's playin' something on a laserdisc.
Everything is better on a laserdisc. Whatever happened to the laserdisc? Laserdisc!

I just watched both a few days ago.

TPM had been nigh-unwatchable for me, and now...it's not bad. Balance is a better, and more mature movie.
AOTC- I could have done with a little more trimming of Anakin's post slaughter whining, but what can you do? Guess can't really add in dialogue. And the yellow saber Dooku is a not only a wothwhile possibility, it gives more credence to the war itself as being essentially realistic political disagreements, as opposed to everyone just being suckered.
I am surprised that the deleted scene where Padme addresses the Senate wasn't put in, but I am so much happier that the Obi-Wan - Mace Windu conversation replaced the Obi-Wan - Yoda conversation.

I need dvd's of these.

Good Work, Magfan. Thank you.

I've just onto the forums and I would love to know if anyone can send me a BotF and TCW on DVD as I am in the UK. I am actually trying to download them but the download is going so slow, it keeps zeroing out on me. Oh I will pay for any mailing costs and such.

I have seen Balance of the Force and it was amazing but it came from a mate who lives in the US and recently went back and can't copy them.

Now all I have to do is turn PM on!

MF, by any chance, are you considering giving Dooku a red saber in RotS? It would show he truly has transitioned to being a Sith, and after all, his saber hilt actually is slightly retooled from AotC...

I have the xvid of ep 1, but was a little disapointed with the quality of the xvid of Ep 2.
DVD's f these would be great.
If anyone would like to trade for blanks and postage please drop me a line.
These DVD's would sit nicely alonside the ADigital Man edits.
