I guess they are changing the Jabba scene. It's all just rumor right now so don't get all excited. What they are doing is making the digital model better. Actually head over to digital bits for the full read.

they're changing a bunch of stuf it sounds like.

The Ultimate Editions will rock. They are finally going to look advanced and will make it look like all six movies were made in order.

Yeah, right!

And in 10-20 years time, when computer technology has progressed even further, he will feel a strong desire to change all 6 episodes yet once again.
GL (in 20 years time): "I feel I could have done a better job with them, but the technology to make the movies I envisioned wasn't available at that time."

Come on!

This way, there will NEVER be a "final" or "definitive" version of the Star Wars movies. Ever.
And even when GL decides to change the movies every 10-20 years, all the costumes and designs (sets, props, spaceships, etc.) - even the actor's haircuts - will ALWAYS make the movies look outdated (or at least show the period in which the movies were made), no matter how hard he tries it not to.

Give it a rest, George! We all love your original trilogy, just as they were when they were released.

In 10-20 years time, GL will be dead, or retired and too old to even REMEMBER what star wars is. So don't worry.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

No the Ultimate Editions will be the final versions.

In 10-20 years time, GL's children may have taken over the company and could have decided to better their dad.

My point was, that GL's constant drive on improving the OT has an air of some sort of psychiatric dissorder about. Maybe it's just a character flaw, who knows. Well, maybe Dr. Phil has an explanation...

George Lucas is a good man. You would not be Star Wars fans if it wasn't for him. He dreamed it up. Wrote um. Produced um. Even directed 4 of em. If any one man is responsible for the Star Wars universe its him. When he dreamed them up he had bizzare images running through his mind that were not possible in 1977. Now he is able to create the movies he always wanted to create. The Ultimate Editions will come. Will come. Come Star Wars 30th aniversery you will see new versions of the movies that will probably be quite different then the Special Editions. We already have three confirmed changes for the 2004 DVDs. Fixed lightsaber effects, the digital Jabba in A New Hope will be replaced with a much better looking digital Jabba, The emperor hologram in The Empire Strikes Back will be replaced with a new improve Ian McDiarmid hologram. There are rumor of more for the 2004 DVDs. Plus the 2004 DVDs are not the final versions. Chchchchanges are a comin.

I wouldn't trust anything Dr. Phil has to say about it.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Let's be kind to the man; we can always hope that someone someday will save the OV the same way Kevin Brownlow was able to rescue Abel Gance's Napoleon.

Hmmm I don't remember ruining them. Only improving them.

This is where I disagree with the sentiments of many of the site, being the middle on this. I don't want GL to give it a rest. The fixed snowspeeders, landspeeders, and new ANH battle alone show he can make things much better then the originals. And I don't think he will continue every few years to update once he can sit down and finish it all off because he seems to like how CGI portrays his vision and I think he will be done with it all soon enough, otherwise he would make Episodes 7-9, which he is not. So while I understand the joking, give it a rest. I want him striving to improve, but I also want him to preserve. So he can have the originals and the directors cut he likes. I definately dislike the stigma he is starting to get here for wanting a better cut. There needs to be a Seperation of Logic, like Seperation of Powers. The petion is to preserve the originals, not say the SE is inferior. And really if everyone thought the SE was better, I would probably have had to make the petion because people are missing the point. It doesn't matter which one is better. Take LOTR. It doesn't matter if the EE is better or not, just that OT and EE(or whatever it evolves into) are preserved, period. There's my clarification of my position and what I think is the main point of the petion, not this arguing over versions.

i totally agree with you DJR...

jimbo i do believe that if it wasnt for hundreds of other actors, makeup artists, costume designers, model builders, etc. that the star wars universe would still be just in Lucas' head.. so in fact they are not just his!!!!
and Lucas is not a good man... he is an ass for not giving the public what they want....

I am glad you agree with me and I am glad I finally could put my position into words. And I do agree I don't like what GL is doing with the OT, but I don't consider him a bad man, that's more of a Hitler category to me. And being a Christian, I have to love my enemies. It stinks how right God can be about things.
