That has been fixed for the 2004 DVDs. You don't have to wait for the Ultimate Editions for that.

Well, since the 2004 dvd's will be the definitive editions for a while at least, that is what I meant by UE. Let me put this way, UE = Most Updated and Definitive Edition at the time.

The fixed snowspeeders, landspeeders, and new ANH battle alone show he can make things much better then the originals. And I don't think he will continue every few years to update once he can sit down and finish it all off because he seems to like how CGI portrays his vision and I think he will be done with it all soon enough, otherwise he would make Episodes 7-9, which he is not. So while I understand the joking, give it a rest. I want him striving to improve, but I also want him to preserve. So he can have the originals and the directors cut he likes. I definately dislike the stigma he is starting to get here for wanting a better cut. There needs to be a Seperation of Logic, like Seperation of Powers. The petion is to preserve the originals, not say the SE is inferior. And really if everyone thought the SE was better, I would probably have had to make the petion because people are missing the point. It doesn't matter which one is better. Take LOTR. It doesn't matter if the EE is better or not, just that OT and EE(or whatever it evolves into) are preserved, period. There's my clarification of my position and what I think is the main point of the petion, not this arguing over versions.

i agree with that too. i maybe could even like the SE if i knew that i could get the OT too, that they could co-exist peacefully. but since it isn't the case, i see the SE as the "murderer" of the OT and thus dislike it with a passion. i guess this will change when i'll get my bootleg dvds or when (being idealistic now) they will finally release the OT too.

and i also don't think that the SWs movies are only George Lucas'. he would be a nobody doing movies about teens in the fifties and space ducks if it weren't for the fan. let's face it: movies are not like books. you might be able to print your own book, paying the publishing costs etc by yourself but for a movie it is impossible, those cost waaayyy too much. and guess with whose money GL made the SW movies (especially the prequels and excluding ANH)? with the fans'. so, in a certain way, they are ours too, it's the money we've invested that made it possible. and they should release the OT at least as a sign of respect and ecknowledgement for this. and for historical preservation because it is the OT that established SW as a popular phenomenon. if it hadn't been that successful there wouldn't be a SE, let alone the prequels. so it's actually our own fault that this happened. we killed the ot!

I disagree in that GL made the decision not to release the OT. And ANH could have been a flop, he never knew it would do so good. But see, I don't hate the SE because GL won't let the OT come to DVD. I dislike GL in that regard, but only GL since he is the one with the legal power after all.

Those of you who feel he has every right to change his movies however and whenever he wants to: You are right!

But that doesn't mean we all have to agree on his new and improved version every time he makes another change to the original trilogy (the 1997 SE, the 2004 DVD release and maybe the 30th Aniversary Edition).

All these changes to the original movies would've never provoked such strong reactions if the original cuts were available on DVD. The fans would be able to make up their own mind whether to buy the new(er) version or just stick with the originals.
If this were the case, I'm almost certain GL would never see a Return Of Investment from his improved versions. Now, by preventing the original versions of Episodes IV-VI from being releaed on DVD (for the time being), he can have it both ways: change the movies to match his 'vision' and make money while he does. The ONLY way a fan can obtain a LEGAL copy is by buying the altered versions on DVD in september 2004. It's either this version on DVD or no DVD at all. Not much of a choice is there?

exactly. people wouldn't discuss endlessly about greedo shooting first, the new jabba scene, luke's screaming and the new final scene in ROTJ if the OT would still be avalaible. thy would rather spend their time watching the OT than ranting bout the SE on the internet. well, that's at least what I would do...
i also think that the prequels would be better liked too, since many of the changes in the SE have been made to adapt it better to the prequels. there's a certain resentment for them as well.

I garuntee that the 2004 DVDs are not the final versions.

If this were the only reason, he would have to resolve a lot (and I mean: A LOT, too numerous to mention) of plot holes in the original trilogy AND in the prequels. Unfortunately all "goofs" for the Episode I and II on the Internet Movie DataBase that are related to (story) inconsistencies are removed untill Episode III has been released. I doubt GL, being the perfectionist that he is, will be able to resolve all plot holes adequately. Time will tell...

I do not mind the prequels.

In fact, I love them! I honestly think the prequels are great precursors to the OT.
I watch them just as often as the original trilogy.

But what I don't like is altering the OT in order to "better fit in" with the PT.

I mean, WTF is up with that?! THAT is what I despise.

And THAT is why the DVDs will never touch my hands or even be associated with me whatsoever.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Your the ass and he doesn't have to give you shit.

lol
jimbo are you mad because im right?? i think you are...
you post stupid shit like this to try and prove your point... wow your quite good at a debate...
tell you what, since your still in highschool (prolly achieving a whopping 50% average, demonstrated by the quality of your posts) join the debate team so maybe you can learn something.. one day these skills may even come in handy when you are confronted with someone who has a different opinion of yours...
rather than being the child you are and call them names...

and while your at joining the debate team.. why not tell some of the senior students to take you in the bathroom and give you a good ass whooping... maybe this will help you with respecting others instead of thinking your king shit behind a computer screen..

and your right Lucas doesnt have to give a shit...
not about any of us, that includes little pesky fan boys like you, who end up not contributing anything to this world when their older because all they need to do to be successful is support every shitty idea someone like Lucas makes... cough.. cough.. Rick McCallum... cough...

so continue your pro SE rants on here, im used to hearing them on here and dont mind finding faults with everything you say... its actually kinda fun... but at least have some respect for individuals on here...

its the only way you will ever make friends... here and in real life.

That is scary, I sincerely hope they change their mind. Otherwise, Alec Guiness might be replaced with Ewen McGregor and Yoda with CGI, no thank you.

It may sound unbeleivable but after what has happened so far it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. This is another reason I really want nothing to do with the SE's, because it endorses all the changes he has made and makes it seem OK for him to make more. It really would not surprise me if in 20 years the OT's have been changed so much that they are barely recognisable; I am not saying it will go that way, but it could, easily...

He'll still be the one in the vader armour, but Hayden will be the ghost (unless GL changes his mind about the changes being made) obi-wana nd Yoda will still be the original ghosts, some plot point in Ep3 which explains the Jedi dissappearing/ghosts will make the age difference in the ghosts clear.

I hope not because then who saved Luke? It couldn't have been Anakin if he already died, what was it then? A machine with Anakin's thoughts and feelings? No thank you, I really don't want to go down that road.
