No, it’s really not. That’s not how reputable journalism works. If the WSJ says they spoke to someone familiar with the matter, and that person says Lucasfilm has no plans to restore the OOT, then I absolutely believe that’s the case.

So naive…

I’m a person familiar with it. I would say the same thing. Therefore, truth.

Every other time he quotes LFL he says he talked to a spokesperson. But at the end he just says “someone familiar with it”. Different people, perhaps?

Ugh, why do all these thread go off topic despite it being against the rules?

Ugh, why do you keep coming back with new accounts despite it being against the rules?

And now you are just adding to an already severe problem on this forum.

Anyway, to get back on topic the original version of the old trilogy(as well as the original version of TPM) does not seems to ever be coming back. So, we are stuck with our 2006 DVDs and old VHS’es so even under Disney Lucas still wins.

Well, my opinion is if I ever wrote an article like that for my college newspaper, the professor would have given me a C minus that week. 😉

Sadly, vague statements from Lucasfilm are nothing new.

Even if he did speak to someone official, or someone who would know…what’s to say he’s not lying or misleading?

Nothing.

Nobody knows nothin’.

Ben Fritz’s bio/resume/whatever says he covers Disney for a living, so the chances of Lucasfilm working on an OOT restoration are essentially zero right now.

Factual reporting from an article that’s already proven to be filled with misinformation?

Lucasfilm tends to keep things close to the vest, so I doubt they’re going to spill the beans on any release plans.

I don’t understand why keep it a secret. If the news is out it will circulate and more people will get aware of it eventually, therefore potentially more costumers. Before the release they then do the regular boost up with teasers etc. to finally fully engage people to buy it.

Until a tentative release date is announced, the official response will be that they have no plans regarding the material.

I still think this article is typical modern-day journalism and wouldn’t take the word of some random “source” seriously, but even if they did talk to someone who was qualified to say what they said, there is still the point that why would they say anything other than “we have no plans” until they actually have concrete plans and a release date set in stone. and even then they would not say anything until a press release came out.

Disney… sigh. This is what we get for liking your films? They should have been classic! But instead, they’re all worthless! About as worthless as this Episode II poster I have back here! In fact, just thinking about this makes me feel like having an anal evacuation!!

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

There’s no need to paint us a mental picture of such things.

Actually, looks like someone is paraphrasing the Angry Video Game Nerd…

There is no lingerie in space…

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Yeah, I think I went a little off-track there.

There’s no need to do that either.

Rather than engage in speculation, I went ahead and actually contacted Ben Fritz at the Wall Street Journal. He specifically said that George Lucas is the reason why Disney/Lucasfilm has no plans to restore the OOT.

Is that what his knowledgeable source told him? For some reason I suspect that if he had a good source for that, it would’ve been included in the article.

I am sure he has many sources. He covers Disney for a living for one of the major news publications in the country. There should be little doubt he knows what goes on inside that company.

Which sounds like a variant on the same reason given in the years before George sold off the moisture farm. Mr. Fritz seems to be simply repeating old information.

Lucas isn’t in the position to block an OOT restoration any more than he has the ability to make them put an elderly Jar Jar in Rogue One.
