Shouldn't you be finishing up editing someone else's work?

Getting there....glad to see you're still interested in the project. There's obviously not enough excitement in your own life to keep you away from these boards.

Yeah, I was just talking to your Assistant Editor the other day... he said it sucks.

http://www.crimelibrary.com/graphics/photos/serial_killers/notorious/serial_killer_movies/Leatherface200.jpg

Yet he still makes the original version available in high quality. Unlike a certain some else who edits other people's work. Some who's initials are GL.

Oh the ol' "GL didn't have anything to do with the last 2 OT movies"... that's a classic!

I've never said that he didn't have anything to do with any of them; quite the contrary. He had a lot to do with them. Of course, the crux of the issue, which you keeps sidestepping, is that the original versions aren't available to us, except in a substandard release. You keep criticizing people for making fan edits (Which I don't, by the way.), yet GL is doing the same thing to the OOT, and you don't seem to have a problem with that. This is what I struggle with. Plus, fan edits will be seen by, what, a hundred people, tops? Hardly anyone knows that they exist. That's hardly rewriting history on movie that changed the face of the cultural landscape. It'd be like if I drew a mustache on a classmate in my yearbook or wrote fanfiction. It doesn't change the work or the person; I just amuse myself. Yet, GL does. AND THE ORIGINAL VERSION IS NOT AVAILABLE IN THE QUALITY THAT IT DESERVES. And you have no problem with him.

Besides, they don't exist anymore. He said so himself. So that means that people can do whatever they damn well please with them. If the don't exist, he has no right to get down on bootleggers. Fans want to preserve the movies, because they clearly love them a hell of a lot more than he does.

JR, you are twisting my words around, I am not saying Lucas had zero to do on these movies, but I get tired of you guys saying because he owns the rights to them, that he can do what he pleases with these movies when someone else directed them!

ANH, TPM, AOTC, and ROTS are all Lucas's babies, and he can do what he wants to those movies, cause he wrote and directed them so those 4 movies are his 100% vision on the screen. ESB & ROTJ are not his 100% vision, cause a director can interpret someone elses writing a different way.

If you look at a movie like Jaws, it was taken from the novel by Peter Benchley and also adapted by Peter Benchley, all's Spielberg did was direct his vision the screen. But who gets credit for the bulk of the movies success: STEVEN SPIELBERG! Even though it was created by Benchley, and it was put to paper by Benchley, Spielberg is the one who's vision is what everyone sees. And that is my point about Kersh and Marquand, you can't say that Lucas can just do what he wants cause he owns the rights to these movies, the same way Benchley would be out of line going back and changing scenes in the original Jaws movie.

Don't worry too much about JR, guys. He lives to work himself into a tizzy over us on these boards. It's an odd sort of love.

Can you imagine the discussion we would be having if George had worn a "Howard The Duck" t-shirt instead?

That's actually a really good question. I mean which would be more profound, Lucas admitting that Han shot first or Lucas admitting he had anything to do with Howard the Duck?

I like Howard too. I'm still annoyed the theater sold out of the official t-shirts back in '86.

The only think that gets me in a tizzy is finally seeing how you edited Jar Jar Binks out of Ep1. That'll rock.

And yet the original version will still be available in crisp, high quality.

Seriously folks, Lucas had better get his head on straight and release the original versions in good quality if he thinks it's OK to just walk around wearing a shirt like that. I don't mean to push my idea for the next release on you guys for the umpteenth time, but I was watching some of the superman returns blu-ray disc on my uncle's ps3 last night and the possibilities are driving me nuts. All LFL would need to do is release a 6 disc, double sided dual layer blu-ray disc set with the original version on one side and the revisionist version on the other and I'm pretty sure just about everyone buying it would be happy.

Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair. It's gonna take more than just removing some nasty visuals. Not even worth the trouble.

It's immaterial, since we can't do a damned thing about it anyway.

They're certainly beyond any repair you're capable of making. But keep reachin' for the stars, Champ.

Then you admit that the prequels suck beyond repair ?

In any case, what the **** difference does it make what he does with them? Lucas's vision is hardly compromised by an edit that what, 50 people TOPS will ever see? A fan edit does no harm to anyone. Just leave him be. Fans trying to preserve the OOT clearly love it a hell of a lot more than Lucas does. He's made his bed. Now let him lie in it. He deserves the bootlegs till he get his head out. There wouldn't be any need for it if he'd release the original beloved versions of the three most popular an influential movies ever made properly. If he won't, then someone else will try to. Notice that there is a market for them.

And now, to update my .sig....

For some reason, this reminded me of a Laurent Bouzereau interview (He had hours of interviews with Lucas, Kershner, et. al. for the Star Wars Annotated Screenplays.)

LB: No, no! He was so excited to do it. He's great. Also, for Eyes of Laura Mars I did a commentary with (director) Irvin Kershner. That's something I really wanted to do because of Kershner, he's a great guy.

DF: He's also responsible for directing the only good Star Wars movie, The Empire Strikes Back. It would be great to have a commentary on that!

LB: I did one...but just for me.

DF: Really!?

LB: I recorded him watching the movie with me. He came to my house and I have it on MiniDisc. We just talked about the movie. I did it for my book (Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays) - I went to his house and interviewed him. He was just so great. And I asked him to come over and watch the movie with me. I had bagels and stuff.

DF: Ewok-shaped bagels, I hope? (laughs) Which version of the film?

LB: It was the old version. Definitely. So I have a commentary...sort of. It was really fun, really great!

DF: I think you should sell it on eBay and retire! (laughs)
