Make them dual and single layer then I have a dual layer burner, so I'd love the increase in quality We'll still lose some quality with that 10 GB one, but not nearly as much.

Woah. How did some of these get up to 10 GBs? My own Book 3 type edit was about 5.5 GBs, but maybe I was more ruthless with what I cut. Well, I guess two single layered or one double layer disc might be appropriate for the bigger sized edits.

As I said in your Two Towers book cut thread, I really like how you are restoring the original color to the films. The digital degrading of the films made them dull and boring for me. I did think some of the color in the pics, especially Lothlorien, did not look totally natural. Because of the low color contrast, Frodo's face is more obviously the same color as the background foilage on the left. Did you use behind the scenes footage or still photographs for reference. Disc four on the Fellowship extended edition has a feature called Digital Grading that shows a lot of before/after examples. Lothlorien is drastically recolored. The battle inside the mines was given a blue tint.

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

I converted the book 2 mpg to DVD and noticed a video and audio glitch just after Aragorn tells Frodo to run at Amon Hen. Other than that point, I haven't found any other problems. It looks great on my standalone DVD player after adding a menu and chapters. Thanks so much!

I used that dgpulldown program to make the book cut 2 mpg a DVD compliant mpg, but now I'm trying to figure out how to burn it to a DVD. What program do you guys use to author the disk? I'm trying Ulead DVD Workshop 2 right now, but I get the feeling it's reencoding the video and I don't want to do that (it may not be, it just seems like it is). Any programs you guys can recommend?

I use it sometimes as well. What I like about it is the accurate chapters. The final product has chapters exactly where you put them. DVD-Lab Pro, while is has frame indexing that's supposed to give you accurate chapters, still ends up a bit off. Quite annoying, actually. Especially if you're a perfectionist. But I still use DVD-Lab Pro for its flexibility with menus. Maybe I'm missing something, but TMPGEnc DVD Author only allows you to use buttons for linking and already determines for you what exactly you can link to. It also doesn't support subtitles.

I guess we must have read different versions of the book!

I want to see your re-edit! Whatever it is!

I've been working on a series of LOTR re-edits and, I must say, Lord Phillock, your changes mirror mine very closely! Great minds and all that...

I'm very glad you have restored Aragorn's authority as well as the color to Lothlorien. Did you add color correction to the entire image, or just to parts of the image? It looks like you added some yellow and red. I was disappointed by the blue tones seen in the film -- didn't match the books at all IMO. What software did you use for your work?

The only thing I didn't do that you did was to put Boromir's death at the beginning of TTT. It just doesn't work dramatically IMO, even though your version is closer to the book in this regard. I'm very excited about my handling of the Ents and Entmoot.

I also restored Aragorn's broken sword to Fellowship, so that he carries it with him and has it reforged in Rivendell.

My TTT is done -- 4 hours long! Yikes! Now I'm working on ROTK. Compositing work is taking a while to fix the Witch King encounter.

Hey, Lord Phillock, care to send me a mail?

I have myself been planning an edit of the three movies myself for some time, and I'd like to speak a bit more with you...

I haven't seen your edits, but we seem to have smilar ideas, and I want to have some of your ideas concerning colouring, and audio mixing etcetera...
