Look what I got for 25 cents! (a.k.a. Star Wars bargains)

Today, at the local Salvation Army, I got an original 2 LP set of the Star Wars soundtrack. The covers aren't in bad shape; regular scuffing for a 31-year-old album. The vinyl itself, however, looks brand new! That was a really fun--and extremely cheap--purchase!

I also got the 2001: A Space Odyssey soundtrack LP in the same condition for 25 cents.

Have you ever found any really good deals like this?

whoa!  That's awesome.   Being a vinyl collector myself, I'd love to collect like that.

Wow, that was an amazing deal. I used to go to thrift stores to browse through their junk, and every now and then I'd find a treasure. I can't really remember any deals I have gotten on SW stuff though. Back in the early ninties I used to get bags full of SW action figures for about $1.99. Most of them were pretty loose in the limbs and where missing every single accessory. I found some SW ships back then too, but they too were really stripped down, still was happy to find them though.

Lately it seems that the thrift stores in my area go nuts with anything that they think might be of some value. For example, they usually sell hard cover books for $2 each, but they get a hard cover Harry Potter or some other currently popular book, they slap $9 bucks on the thing. Since Star Wars is pretty big, anything they recongnize as SW, they tend to charge a lot for.

I've seen them throw close to $10 dollars on old mid ninties SW games in cracked jewel cases. I have even seen them charge $2 for old AOL Free Trial! discs.

Yeah, there's a thrift store near me that I used to buy used records from (usually for 25 to 75 cents each), and then they started marking them at like $7 to $10 or more. They still had stacks and stacks of them last time I was there (no wonder), and I haven't been back since.

I did get a good deal many years ago at a flea market- a guy gave me a ROTJ Oral-B poster for free (it was actually a thin flat box that held the posters in the store, and one of the posters was pasted to the front). It was a poster I had never seen before, so I was thrilled. I love the artwork on it and it's still one of my favorite star wars promotional items.

Around the same time (mid-1980's) I found a Kenner Electronic Death Star/Laser Battle game in a bargain bin at Woolworths. The box was a bit beat up, but I think I paid $5 or $6 for it.

Back in 1997 I was in a drug store in a Louisiana small town. This was when I was at the height of my Star Wars collecting mania. They had 2 vintage ROTJ-style Star Wars toothbrushes (Vader and Luke) for a couple of bucks each. Of course, I bought them.

Several years ago, I used to go to thrift stores to get Atari 2600 games, and they were $1 each or so.  Now, they are $5-$20 each, depending on the store.  It seems like thrift stores have gone crazy on a lot of the 'collectable' stuff, and now they sit, unsold and I rarely go there anymore.

Oh yeah, now I remember back around 1996 or so, I went to Shopko (kind of like Wal-Mart back in the pre-Super Wal-Mart days) and just happened to wander into the toy section where they were clearancing off some of their SW toys, including their X-Wing fighters which were going for six bucks each!!! I had one of the old white ones from the eighties but I had been hard on it over the years and broke off the canopy and eventually the s-foils stopped working. So I bought three of these X-Wings for less than the retail price of one. Still have them in the box and unopened packed away somewhere. For some reason that store would regularly clearance out many of their toys, so I'd keep returning. I got many other deals from them. I think I got a Naboo fighter for under ten bucks as well. I also bought a large number of various figures for around $2 each from them over the years. I bought SW Monopoly from them for $5. I don't even remember all the stuff I bought from that place, it has all been packed away and unlooked at for years.
