It's practically an on-topic joke thread much of the time (rewind a few pages and you will find loads of posts of this nature).

Off-Topic tends to spill over into On-Topic threads that have become kinda joke threads. It happens.

There are around twenty-two other other topics on the front page that are all currently On-Topic, however!

George Lucas can grow facial hair whereas I just end up looking like an idiot when I try.

Agree, but he looks even sexier when he takes more than his glasses off:

To be honest, I did it to take the piss out of Hoth-Nudist's habit of replacing the 's' at the end of 'lucas' wiith a $. It was to show how ridiculous and stupid it looked.

I have to admit the further I read the more of a mess the text was becoming and I was thinking why am I wasting my time with this? It reminded me of that awful thread with the picture of the huge building and bunny at the bottom lol. Anyways, I am over it now and have remembered that I'm here to hopefully some day see a release of the OT.

With that being said....George raised 3(?) kids that aren't his.  That must make him a saint by all standards.

It looks stupid and ridiculous anyway...especially in a thread where we are supposed to be nice to Georgie.

The only official film sequel to The Wizard of Oz is an animated film. There have been quite a few remakes and different takes on the story, but nothing that touches on the direct continuity of Star Wars.

From what I have read, Return to Oz (1985), starring Fairuza Balk was supposed to be a direct sequel to The Wizard of Oz. It may not be complete, but it is taking elements from book 2 and 3.

By the way, while looking up the movie on IMDB, I came across the following:

"Director Walter Murch invited friend George Lucas to visit the set one day. During that visit Lucas wandered to different sound stages where he came across producer RickMcCallum working on a small film. The two became friends and later collaborated on the "Star Wars" prequels."

I like Mr.Lucas, he's a nice guy. I think he has made a wise choice for picking Disney. I have always respected him. The only thing I don't like about him is that he won't release the Originals' in their Original glory. The people who worked very hard at I.L.M.(76'-83') there work distorted by the new technology. If the Originals' was release it woulds show respect for those people and the actors and the people who loved his so called "half finished movies." But in many ways I still respect the man who made Star Wars and that is George Lucas. Plus, I.L.M. and fox.

Pat Man.

One day we will have properly restored versions of the Original Unaltered Trilogy (OUT); or 1977, 1980, 1983 Theatrical released versions (Like 4K77,4K80 and 4K83); including Prequels. So that future generations can enjoy these historic films that changed cinema forever.

But they are his.

He adopted them.

Being a parent to children you aren't biologically related to doesn't automatically make you a saint but by all accounts George is a good parent and that's saying something nicer than saying he is a bad parent.

A free gift to Hoth-nudist, whenever he really wants to call out George Lucas on his greed:

All from real currency symbols: the British pound, Israeli Shekel, American Cent, Argentine Austral, and American Dollar, because obviously George cares about nothing but money!

I hope Disney puts more currency symbol shaped spaceships in the ST.

The Indian Rupee symbol would make a good one.

He was involved in some of my favorite movies up until 1989.  That is the nicest thing i can say about him.

Last crusade is the last good movie he was involved in imho.  And he did not direct it or write it.  Though he did come up with the initial story concept.

The Last Crusade is pretty awful in my book.

A weak copy of the original, the same formula used for Jedi.

The Young Indiana Jones telly series is the nearest thing we got to more Indiana Jones adventures.

The other films were like weird spoofs with some of the same cast.

The documentaries on the box sets were the best thing he's done in decades.

I don't think Crusade is awful per se, but after watching it recently, it's really not a very good movie.  I used to love it, but it really does come across as an Indiana Jones spoof.  Though Raiders definitely had humor, it seems like every other line in Crusade is a joke.

I can't comment on Temple of Doom, because I haven't watched it in 10 years.  I can never get in the mood for it.  When I want to watch me some Indy, it's always Raiders.

Anyone remember different camera angles from ROTJ?

Last Crusade has some of the best acting in the entire trilogy, it's just ruined by being a re-hash of the first film, probably in response to the criticism TOD received. It's a really well made film, it's just not very original. But my favourite Indy film has been Temple of Doom since day one, and a lot of people call me crazy for saying that. It probably is not unrelated to the fact that I also enjoy KOTCS as well. I guess I just enjoy the crazier elements of the series. I love cult horror films, and whenever people ask me what my favourite horror films are I include Temple of Doom, and people react weird, but I guess that's why it's one of my favourite films of all time. It really comes down to how you look at it, and I think that's also one reason why I forgive Crystal Skull a lot of it's flaws.

I watched TOD about 17 times in the same theater that year but that was because the hormones had kicked in and Harrison got his shirt off.

It's an audacious piece of cinema in many ways (the whole gunfight/carchase/plane crash/sled ride/ white water ride thang is astonishingly ballsy) but it's also more ethnically and culturally insulting the TPM.

You could get away with the British and the Americans saving the silly brown people from their filthy pagan religion in the 30s and 40s but by 1984 (2yrs after Gandhi, even if it does star Bendhi Kingslhi in brown face) you'd think the progressive USC grads would know better.

Any religion that regularly involves rituals of ripping people's hearts from their living body and then being dropped into lava can go the way of the dodo bird imo.

It's been a good many years since I've watched TOD actually but I seem to remember that he was only concerned with destroying the thuggee cult.  The villagers that revered the stones as being holy were regarded as simpletons but Indy actually helped them recover their holy stones. He was pretty knowledgeable and respectful of the people and their beliefs, I think.

Kali is a revered Hindu Goddess so ask yourself this how would an Indian film about a Pakistani action hero saving the world from child abusing human sacrificing Christians go down?

Indian cuisine is the one of the most ancient and sophisticated cuisines in the world so the whole brown people with their filthy food routine was a bit retrograde too, especially coming from the country that gave us McDougals.

George thinks he can write the same sort of offensive nonsense Kipling got away with.

He was a Victwardian.

Star Wars took the subject of 1930's serials and updated it, Raiders gave it a refresh too but TPM and TOD look like a step back from 36 in terms of content.

Even some of the effects work looked dated at the time.

Hey, at least they used spoons instead of their hands to eat the chilled monkey brains.

“Grow up. These are my Disney's movies, not yours.”

Well if the production values were good and there was a solid plot I can imagine it would go down not too bad at all.  If somebody is abusing children and sacrificing humans I think most people would agree that they are bad regardless of their self-proclaimed affiliations.

The food was nasty and disgusting because the crops had all died after the Thuggee took the stones from the village.  It didn't seem to me that the idea was to look down upon them because of the color of their skin. I always thought of it as a plot mechanism used to reinforce Indy's decision to help the people.

I've always loved Kipling's stories.  It always felt like I was entering some grand adventure when I cracked open one of his books.

I don't really get offended about stories that glorify the decay of western civilization as long as in the context of the story it is justified. Likewise, I don't get offended when the bad guys are of an ethnical origin as long as the individuals being portrayed are really the bad guy.

I'll concede that some of the effects were a bit dated but it was only maybe 2 or 3 scenes in the whole movie. That airplane crash looked fake even as a kid. I'm still standing by TOD as being the 2nd best of the 4 movies though lol.

EDIT: I didn't think about the food at the palace.  I can say my reaction as a kid was "I'll bet monkey brains taste pretty good" lol.
