While Yoda says that size doesn't matter, he immediately adds that it only makes a difference in one's mind.  And, despite Yoda's insistence in the theory that size doesn't matter, in practice it clearly does to Luke, as he is able to levitate stones but simply cannot raise his X-Wing, a much heavier object, out of the swamp.  So to one who is not as in tune with the Force or does not possess as much faith, size certainly is an obstacle.

Hmm, this just reminded me of something, in AOTC, doesn't Yoda seem to grimace as if he is struggling as he uses the force to hold up the boulders to keep them from falling on Anakin and Obi-Wan. Yet in ESB, he simply closes his eyes and peacefully lifts a multi-ton space craft out of a swamp.

The whole struggling with boulders, while he is able to make himself float with ease seems to be a contradiction against his own "size matters not" philosophy.

Good Lord, man, I wasn't "picking" on you or your post in any way.  I was just making what I thought was a humorous observation about the way something was written.  I actually hadn't gotten around to addressing the information you presented to me yet, but that doesn't mean I wasn't going to do so at some point after I'd thought about the matter enough to say something that someone else hadn't already addressed.  I believe you assume too much.  Also, yes, I made a generalizing statement.

thanks gaffer for responding politely... yes, i have strong feelings (ha ha) or forcelike abilities

to tick people off, it's a curse...[hmmm........or maybe its a gift.... i lean to the darkside].....

let me back up and say , you caught me off guard, because i felt you genuinely wanted information,

and i did want to present a lot of information that i found to be 'interesting'...

and i felt you did take it rather offhandedly, which i mistook for your not taking it seriously..

now, its my turn to apologize, and say forgive me for retorting in the manner that i did,

as i feel that some people (not all), bait PT/EU sympathsizers here for the amusement

of others......

the star wars galaxy is huge, and not everyone wants to explore it, yes i realize that...

thats where imagination comes into play...... (by the way, i am Christian, so i would

think religous preconceptions, and notions also come into play and bias here)...

a lot of things about the force do seem mystical, and simplistic, and if you base your

ideas of it based on:

-----------------------------------

1) just 'star wars' - you really don't have a lot to go on... you see people being choked, ben

altering peoples mentality, people disappearing after getting killed, a person who is able to deflect

bolts without  seeing them, and someone making an impossible shot...................really what else is

there?

2) both SW and ESB - you get a little better notion, by seeing yodas object manipulation, another

force ghost, luke levitating objects, his lightsaber, and jumping superhigh...darth vader also

uses the force to throw objects, sense luke, and of course more mentions of the darkside

3) all three OT films - you get to discovers luke's ability to manipulate objects has gotten

more powerful, you see a lot more of the darkside, etc....

anyways, its such a limited subset of the full view of the force...

but if that's all you know, and are happy to expand your view, in your mind, that's fine....

----------------------------------

the prequels changed all that.................and before the prequels, the EU changed

it a lot more........................................................ why wouldn't some fans want to

know more about this mysterious force? that's why to me, all those details,

explanations, and ideas EXPANDED the original, and i was fine with it....

----------------------------------------

what the prequels did for me, was finalize some points about where the force

came from, and we saw a lot more practical/physical effects of it..................

i never had a problem with it then, and i still dont'....

---------------------------------------

now, for the people that say, they can accept some aspects of the force or

another, and try to second guess, or shoehorn what their ideas of the 'force'

should be into the Lucas universe is a very difficult excercise....

i'm not sure that there can ever be an adequate description of the 'force' that

will please 'purists' of the OT, since all the explanations have been made already..

-------------------------------------------

please continue with your analysis,

i for one AM intrugued on what others think.....

i read 'splinter of a minds eye' when it first came out, which is why the idea

of other 'force' objects, and explanations were not that hard for me to accept,

since those ideas were tangential to the latter movies.....and yes, i realized

the darth vader / family stuff continuity was pretty much shot, when empire came

out...............but by then, i was also reading the comic books, and the newspaper

strip...... so there was always other conflicting information out there..

-----------------------------------------

sorry for the rambling post..

i hope i made some sense..

I believe Lucas bad idea for Midichlorians came to him when he was reading a scientific study on mitochondria.

Also in Episode III Qui Gon was supposed to explain more about the force how you could join it with your physical self, something about the whills or something.  Then he trains yoda and then yoda trains obi wan.

This is how they exist in the force to defeat the dark side, whilst those who die as sith perish and there souls are not preserved.  Plus they can teach Luke as voices of wisdom.

This is canon the EU had dark jedi and sith surviving but that is EU nonsense.  Like the Dark Empire emperor, Freedon Nadd, exar kun.

Or at least it was canon until Liam Neeson refused to Reprise the Role of Qui Gon Jinn.  But it is still in Matthew Stovers novelization and the shooting script.

As for Yoda Struggling to lift something in episode II that was done for weight and scale, to make it seem more real since cgi is incredibly fake.

In earlier Drafts of Revenge of the Sith you find out that the emperor influenced the midichlorians to create Anakin, so he is he father in a way.  Making him Darths Daddy and Lukes Grandfather, lol.

Supposedly this was the Thing He learned from Darth Plaguis the wise.

I think in the same early revenge of the sith plots though Han Solo was raised on Kashyyyk and was Chewies Brother though adopted.  LOL terible ideas.  And you think what made it into the final cut is cringe worthy.
