Least screen time for a credited original trilogy character

Author

Does Star Destroyer Captain #2 in Return of the Jedi, who was played by Tom Mannion, have the least screen time of any credited original trilogy character? The character appears on screen for about three seconds, and doesn’t even have a speaking role.

While researching this I never realized how many of the Imperial officer actors were on Doctor Who. Like, all of them.

Which actors who played Imperial officers, other than Mark Jones, were ever on Dr. Who? I don’t believe Tom Mannion was. Michael Culver wasn’t. Was Leslie Schofield, Julian Glover, Pip Miller, Alan Flyng, or Michael Sheard on Dr. Who?

Leslie Schofield: The War Games and The Face of Evil
Julian Glover: City of Death
Michael Sheard: The Ark, The Mind of Evil, Pyramids of Mars, The Invisible Enemy, etc

Not sure about the rest, may just be failing Google-fu or uncredited appearances. Certainly it’s probably more fair to say that Imperial Officers were on Doctor Who a surprising amount of times, not that all of them were.

He wasn’t on the show, but Peter Cushing played The Doctor in two movies (Dr. Who and the Daleks, Daleks’ Invasion of Earth 2150 AD) if that counts. Although they apparently took the title too literally and his name is actually “Dr. Who” in those movies.

All his life has he looked away… to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph!

Is there any credited original trilogy actor with less screen time than Tom Mannion? Or does Mannion hold the original trilogy record?

Does Manion appear in ROTJ, or is he only in the deleted scenes? For some reason I thought his scenes were deleted?

If he does appear in the shown film I guess he is likely the winner of ‘the least amount of screen time with a credit’.

A fun video I found on ALL the actors who are in both Star Wars and Doctor Who - a 23 minute video from December 2019.

“Don’t tell anyone… but when ‘Star Wars’ first came out, I didn’t know where it was going either. The trick is to pretend you’ve planned the whole thing out in advance. Throw in some father issues and references to other stories - let’s call them homages - and you’ve got a series.” - George Lucas

Tom Mannion’s scene comes after Lando says “I wonder what those star destroyers are waiting for”. He is the Imperial officer wearing an olive uniform looking out the window. This is the scene where Mannion said in an interview that he saw the back of his head. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/entertainment/celebrity-interviews/new-emmerdale-star-tom-mannion-1465893.amp

Here is a picture of that scene.

If you want to stretch the definition, Sate Pestage is on the call-sheet (and some merchandising) for ESB and not even in the film at all. He was supposed to be the Emperor’s Grand Vizier.

I’m just here because I’m driving tonight.

Well okay, so it was an exaggeration to say all of them, but a fair amount. I was looking up each credited guy in Star Wars and Empire and it seemed like the majority had a Dr. Who credit. I hadn’t had time to do the Jedi cast yet.
Also I apologize for momentarily derailing the thread into Dr. Who discussion.

Assuming that the two guys Piett speaks to when the fleet is in position are “Commander” and “Commander #2” they both have speaking roles. I don’t think there’s any record involved; lots of bit players in ESB and ROTJ have named characters in the credits.

Star Destroyer Captain #2 is in this scene.

Then it cuts to Commander Merrejk talking to Admiral Piett and Commander Gherant.

The scene’s inconsistent editing causes Star Destroyer Captain #2 and the other crew members in the scene to disappear, while Merrejk, Piett, and Gherant show up instantly. Why was the scene edited like this?

Those seem to be names from supplementary materials though so you can see the confusion, he’s probably just been deleted as BoShek says.

Mannion himself said he saw the back of his head in a scene.

A Jedi Council Forums thread believes Mannion’s character is the officer in the olive uniforms looking out the window.

A member of a Facebook group I am in got a response that said it is Mannion in that scene.

FWIW those movies aren’t canon. From what I remember the Daleks are half owned by the screenwriter who created them. So he was able to take the Daleks and make a movie (or two) with them that had no connection to the BBC series.
