First off, if you haven't already ... it's beyond time to get used to a good many Star Wars fans making the larger body of Star Wars fans look bad. With no offense meant to anyone here ... there are a whole lot who are so geeky, so socially misfitting, and so ultra nerdish that it could potentially be embarrassing to be associated with them via the fandom in common. We must all learn to let only ourselves embarrass ourselves, and not be remotely tarred by what anyone else does vis-a-vis their Star Wars mania.

Practice laughing at your fandom, other fandom more radical than your own, and your place along the spectrum. Watch the Triumph the Insult Dog bit until you can laugh at yourself and Star Wars fandom in general. It's healthy.



Secondly, speaking as a legal professional, there is no case to be had against George Lucas for contradictory commercial speech. You can't even sue for false advertising, though you certainly have a Better Business Bureau claim. I suppose if a zillion of us buy the upcoming DVDs, we can each claim damages of $40 and seek to get certified as a class action.

But don't hold your breath.


Your best rebuke against LucasFilm's bad faith business practices is to withhold your money from it from now on.

I'd like to sue GL just to piss him off! LOL! I agree with Obi Jeewhyen that there is a possibility of a class-action lawsuit for making us re-buy the DVDs just 2 years after they were released, by essentially withholding the OOT DVDs in 2004. I got a $20 check a couple of years ago from a class-action suit that was brought about because the major CD labels were charging too much for CDs...and I've been included in a few other suits as well.

But...the idea is still pretty far-fetched, unless there are some lawyers willing to donate their services.

I'm semi kidding, I was hoping you people would go along with this and extentuate from what I said, but a lot of you assholes always have to be so self-conscious and politically correct and put someone down with a ratical but impractical idea. I admit that I don't have much knowledge on how the law system works in this country but I figure a good lawyer would help me with this. What makes a lot of you people turn away from an idea like this is having to pay your lawyers. But I would just find one who is good and intellegent enough to help me with this even if they may not make anything. I don't care if Lucasfilm is a multi-billion dollar company. They have made such an ass of themselves with the prequels, the special editions, and refusal to release the originals that I thin even the courts will laugh at them and give me everything. A hilarous idea I have is to play the SE in the courts and show them scenes like the added Jabba scene in ANH and show them what it looked like proir etc. It would be sooo hilarious seeing George Lucas's face turn bright red with embarasment when we show the court that scene and other scenes like the new dance in Jabba's palace in ROTJ. I'm doing this because of GL complete disrespect for history, his fans, and art. Not for money and the originals. Those are just the tools for revenge. Since it seems money is the only thing that will get Lucasfilm's attention anymore no matter how stupid or poor and stupid the art they produce is.

That's right - and that's why the Red Dwarf specialized remastered version died. Fans didn't like seeing it edited - and they complained, and they've not re-released it, they've just stuck with the original unedited TV episodes now. There are millions of fans who prefer the Special Editions, and buy them. That's why Lucas didn't pull the SE and re-release the original. The only way to stop him releasing the SE is to not buy it - but since millions of fans - and perhaps even the majority of fans prefer the SE and think of OOT fans as crackpots - there's no clear incentive to pull the SE and replace it with the OOT. If Lucas can see there is a huge demand for the OOT through the sale of the September DVD's then he may decide to remaster and re-release the OOT in a few years. If he doesn't then he has every right to conclude that he should continue with the SE.

You make the assumption that people (the jury) would actually give a damn. Sure they may like SW, but I think most casual SW fans actually prefer the SEs. Surprisingly, when I told some friends that were only casually into SW about the OOT coming to DVD (prior to the whole non-16x9 enhanced, LD master news), they laughed and said "why the heck would you want to see an old, outdated version when you have the new ones?" I was fairly shocked that they didn't even think it was a good idea to release them let alone for me to want it.

Since our good friend Keith, however, decided to get a little unruly, I shall have to cease my original actions and respond anyway.
