@marblehornets just came up in my "Who To Follow" on my Twitter. I have two friends who follow them too! I freaked out for a couple minutes there.

Which one are you, Nann?

Lost

Finally finished this show recently. I'm confused by how confused others found the ending. It made perfect sense to me and was a fitting end to the series however much I might disagree with it theologically. =P

Life on Mars

An odd show I randomly decided to start watching after I finished Lost. I was surprised and amused to find it starred the dad from Terra Nova.

Doesn't that mean you are watching the somewhat dodgy US version of Life On Mars instead of the really good UK version (starring the John Simm as maSTerly Sam Tyler)?

I don't recall hearing that many people say they were confused by it, but definitely hear a lot talk about how much they didn't like it for various reasons.

In retrospect, Lost really failed to be anywhere near as great as it could have been. It brought in mysterious plot point to get people to watch it and talk about it, and ultimately those remained lose strings, or were tied up in overly simplified and silly ways.

It was one of my favorite shows of all time, I really wanted it to end as this pretty tapestry that I could be proud of (and even though I didn't care much for the ending, I still could have felt this way about it), but instead it is just a tattered mess.

This makes me very, very, very sad.

So, I don't want to speak too soon, because this isn't a definite thing by any means, but I'm currently working out a deal to get "Joseph Touches a Grapefruit" and "Joseph Plays a Trumpet" aired on Adult Swim. The marketing department is going to be screening them within the next week or two, so we'll see what happens. :D

Once in a while something comes along which sounds like an outlandish piece of comedy on paper but in the viewing is actually provocative and deeply chilling.

Black Mirror : The National Anthem is not as much of a cultural event as the fictional situation it depicts but it's certainly provoked lively debate here in the Chateau.

THE Royal Princess (different name but we know who she's meant to be) is kidnapped and forced to read a detailed demand on film, posted on Youtube which must be carried out to the letter later that day if she is to be released alive.

The demand being that the prime minister does something on every channel of live television that as I say, on paper sounds like the stuff of hilarious (if tasteless) comedy.

Only it's played pretty much straight.

There are a few hiccups in the production (certain details would clearly be investigated before what comes to pass does) but it is a really nasty piece of commentary and a potent satire on just about everything that's wrong with British society and politics at the moment.

I can't wait for the next story in this three part series by Charlie (Dead Set) Brooker.

Not easy viewing even if it is as tastefully done as it could be under the circumstances.

CP3S: How sudden was the announcement of the shows cancellation? Do you think it might have been a case of them trying to tie everything up as quickly as they could before the end?

As for Life on Mars yeah I'm watching the short lived American version but that's only because that's all that's available on Netflix. =P

I'm not sure how abrupt the announcement of its cancellation was, but I don't think it ever did well enough that anyone should have expected a second season.

Watch the original version, it is fantastic. One of my favorite, if not my favorite, TV show of all time. It is really good. The American remake is just a pile of crap, anything good or interesting about it is taken directly from the original.

Mrs. O'Five decided we should give Glee another chance. We watched two more episodes before giving it up for good. This time it wasn't just the bad writing, unlikable characters, and generally poor song choices recently. It was the fact that the episode "First Time" was telling teens that now is the time to live, sex makes you a man, and you can't understand theatrical characters who've had sex until you have. No matter your views on morality, I hope we can all agree that telling high schoolers that now is the best time to do things because you'll be too old after high school is a terrible idea and can force them to make mistakes they otherwise wouldn't make.

Besides, its way to unrealistic now: a high school glee club with no virgins? ;-)

The reason I wanted to stop before this was made even more clear in these two episodes. I really started noticing that not only were the characters reset back to default every season (see: Heroes), but decisions made in one episode were undone the next, to be redone again. In the first episode this season, Santana, a cheerleader whose coach hates the glee club, is told by her coach that she needs to sabotage the glee club (again). She tries, but is told by the glee teacher that she needs to stop being a spy and should leave, so she does. It's a big deal, the crux of the season opener. Two episodes later she's practicing with the group, with one line explaining that she'd changed her mind. Then in the NEXT EPISODE she quits to join a competing glee club at the school. We're talking half of the first 4 episodes of the 3rd season end with Santana quitting the glee club. It's just tiring.

Like Heroes, I stop caring about a show when it stops caring about me, or thinks I don't remember old episodes.

3 years. Lost set itself a death date so that they would be able to aim towards an end goal. What's odd is that's EXACTLY when it started wandering away from a goal at all.

Ah, that is funny, I've heard a lot of people say the abrupt and silly ending to the American remake of Life on Mars was likely due to it being cancelled at short notice with the writers scrambling to tie it up real quick; so I thought that was what you were talking about.

Yeah, like 005 said, they had three years of knowing exactly how many episodes they had left. The show wasn't cancelled, actually, the show runners asked for a definite end date so that they knew just how long they had to drag out the story for, and because they didn't want it to drag on forever like some shows that studios never let die. This all came about after the show began to tank hard during season three (the story went almost nowhere in that season, and we were given some very mundane episodes, like the stupid one about Jack's tattoos). That is why the last three seasons are shorter than the first three, they wanted to end it with season five, but ABC told them they wanted three more years of the show (from season three) so the agreement was that they would do three seasons containing the same number of episodes that would normally be in two seasons.

Took it's time getting there though didn't it?

People complained about the lack of likable characters in Caprica but I never got bored witless by them and they were much less annoying than that incredible bunch.

I lament the loss of the second Vatos episode due to alleged "unusable" footage. Click here to see my guess for how the season 2 premiere was originally going to be. I also wonder how all the episodes of season 2 would've been edited had Darabont not been fired amidst editing the season premiere.

I totally agree. Glenn is the only character in the original group who I actually like.

As for the mid-season finale, I liked it, but had real problems with Sophia's reveal. They never bothered to get us to care about her. That last scene could've been so much more if they'd spent any time actually developing characters and giving us reasons to like/hate/care about anyone. Imagine if we'd grown to know and love Sophia before she disappeared. The last moments of the finale would've been gut-wrenching. Instead, it was just shocking.

Great first episode.  Didn't know much going in.  Watched then read reviews and the comparison to the Twilight Zone is appropriate.

Really liked the scene before the act where the Prime Minister is getting advice from his staff as they walk down a hallway, the lady (can't remember her title) seems to know too much (as she's throwing out advice, dominering the conversation) and the action seemed to slow down and the pollster guy (played by the cop from Ideal) gives a glance as if he sees something bigger, right before the cut.  Nothing came from the moment but it seemed like the place where future material could have derived from.
