Just started watching Firefly.  Already seen Serenity.

Watching the entire Highlander series now. Started last week, and I just began season three this morning. It's very hit and miss, but lots of fun. Much better then a lot of the other syndication series that had been made around the same time. I like how the DVD sets are put together with lots of little extras.

Haha, I've been meaning to watch it for a long time.

So far I've only watched the unaired pilot and liked it a lot.

So I've nearly finished season 6 of Deep Space Nine, and it's absolutely riveting.  But then I saw "Valiant," an episode where Jake and Nog are rescued by a group of cadets in over their heads running a ship.  The only problem is that they're the biggest group of smug assholes I've ever seen.  Every time the first officer opened her mouth, I wanted to cave in her skull with a rock.  It was absolutely painful to sit through this episode, and the only enjoyable part is when they all die!

I think this episode exists solely to show TNG fans how good they had it with Wesley.

lol yeah, I really hated those cadets too.

Having the Dominion take over the station at the end of season 5 was a stroke of brilliance, and I particularly liked the season 6 episode "In the Pale Moonlight", as well as all of those dealing with Section 31.  The fact that they are betraying everything Starfleet and the Federation stand for even while ensuring their continued survival is dealt with in great depth, and while Gene Roddenberry probably would have hated the whole idea, the fact that they openly go against that sort of ideal vision is the whole point, and the irony is lost on none of them.  I found that all to be extremely interesting.

Ark by the director of Pink Five and it sucked it was only 5 minutes long episodes and had long commercials in it.  Worst thing ever.

Well Wesley is now known as the jar jar binks of star trek thanks to some tv show, which also guest starred the same bad actor.

I know I'm in the vast minority on this but, I don't think Wesley was that bad. A large part of this is that I only saw three episodes of TNG containing Wesley focus prior to seeing Wil Wheaton on G4's Arena. I really, really liked Arena and, by then had completely forgotten he was on Star Trek at all. He even made a few Star Trek jokes but, I was just thinking "why is he bringing up Star Trek?" So, after Wil was fired from Arena I was sad and, the show lost something after him and, Travis Oats were fired. So in TNG reruns when I finally saw Wil Wheaton again I couldn't help but think "OMFG!!! It's that guy from Arena!!! I had no clue he was on Star Trek!!! This is fucking awesome!!!!!!" I still feel that way a little bit each time I see him on Star Trek. So it's really hard for me to hate Wesley the way that others do.

Anyways, last tv show I watched was the recent episode of "V".

Evil!Wheaton on The Big Bang Theory is pretty dang funny.

Okay, so after "Valiant," I was a bit weary going on in DS9, because I'd always heard that "Profit and Lace" was by far the absolute worst episode of the entire series, and I just didn't know if I can handle an episode worse than "Valiant," especially not directly after it.  So I watched "Profit and Lace," and I just don't get what the hate for it is.  This episode is ten times better than "Valiant."

Two recent things:

1. BBC's Sherlock.  Fantastic modern-day version of Holmes.  Benedict Cumberbatch is absolutely amazing as Holmes, and Martin Freeman (aka Future/Past Bilbo) is every bit as great as straight-man Watson.

There are a lot of nice touches about this series.  For instance, when Sherlock is deducting something, the viewer is shown on the screen, via inobtrusive titles, what he's thinking.  This same technique is used for the viewing of text messages (something any film/TV show utilizing texts should adopt).

Also, the characters of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson are perfectly transplanted from the late 19th century to the early 21st, without making them different characters.  Moffat and Gatiss have stayed remarkably close to the source material for something intended to be different.  If Cumberbatch and Freeman had been cast in the Guy Ritchie Holmes movie, they could play the characters exactly the same way they do on Sherlock, and it would not feel out of place at all.  (I'm also going to go out on a limb here and say that Sherlock is infinitely better than the Guy Ritchie/Robert Downey Jr./Jude Law film.)  Hell, the first episode ("A Study in Pink") is directly based on the first Arthur Conan Doyle story featuring Holmes (A Study in Scarlet).

Perhaps my favorite thing about the series, though, is that each episode is a movie.  I don't mean "movie-like," I mean each episode is a ninety-minute movie.  Series 1 is essentially a trilogy of ninety-minute films.  And series 2 next year will be another trilogy of ninety-minute films.  (Yes, it's only 3 episodes per series, but hell, they're feature-length episodes, so who cares if it's only 3?)  Really makes you feel like you get your money's worth with each episode (even if, you know, you didn't pay any money).

Sherlock is highly recommended to anyone with an interest in Sherlock Holmes.  And anyone who likes cop shows, or House.

Alright, now the second thing:

2. How I Met Your Mother.

I watched the entire first season of this show in two (three?) days.  It's absolutely fucking hilarious.  If you think this show is your average, groan-every-time-the-laugh-track-comes-on sitcom, I have three names to say to you:

  • Neil Patrick Harris
  • Jason Segel
  • Alyson Hannigan

These three people make the show, and have perfect chemistry together.  If you are remotely a fan of any of these people, watch this show.  It's awesome.  And very addicting.

I sort of made it a rule for myself that if it's a sitcom, and it's recent, it probably won't be good so I won't watch it.  I stumbled across How I Met Your Mother while channel-surfing and stayed on it because of the above three people, and I loved it.

Now, though, I feel like I may be missing out on some good shows that I dismiss simply because they're modern-day sitcoms.  So, if anyone has any "If you like HIMYM, you'd like _________!"-type things for me, let me know, because I'm always willing to try out new shows.

So, TL;DR:

- Sherlock on the BBC is just awesome, and you should watch it if you like Sherlock Holmes, good detective/cop stories, or House.
- How I Met Your Mother is hilarious, and you should watch it if you have a sense of humor.

Loved A Study in Pink but found that while the performances were consistently sound from the two leads the writing in each consecutive episode went down hill.

The finale was a bit of a disaster.

A bold idea which fell at the last lap like a sports shoe dropped off a diving board.

I disagree - A Study in Pink was my favorite episode, but I loved the third, and loved what they did with Moriarty (though I have to admit, if there's one character that does not fall into the "incredibly faithful to Arthur Conan Doyle's writings" category, it's Moriarty).

The Blind Banker(?) was a bit "meh," though, you're right about that.

So last web thing watched was Gaffer Tape's Valiant rant.

Last tv show episode is Star Trek TNG the Q robin hood type eppy. I like Q episodes. Though an interesting comment by Q is "had I known earlier I'de first appeared as a woman" Something like that. I think it's meant as a joke but, taking it seriously fuels so much Q/picard slashness in my head...

I finally tried to watch Lost S1 Ep 1 on netflix last night.  Made it 30 seconds before netflix launched into rebuffering hell, and I never got it working again.

Oh well.

The only way I'll let you watch that is if you post your theories on a thread after watching each episode, so we can laugh at how wrong you are now that the rest of us know the truth. ;-)

That's not fair. No one, not even Frink would ever guess that Jack had been dead the whole time, the survivors were all Cylons, and that the plane was really a sled.

I've been watching How I Met Your Mother recently.  Definitely one of the funnier modern-day sitcoms, though I'll admit I might think that due to Jason Segel and Neil Patrick Harris being awesome in it.

Watched Part I of the Lost pilot last night.  Absolutely stunning!  I read somewhere that the pilot cost something like $10 million to make, and I believe it.  All the money is on the screen.  I felt like I was watching a movie rather than a TV pilot.

Having said that, I'm a bit concerned reading the Netflix descriptions of the S1 episodes.  Seems like there is a "shocking discovery" every week.

They tried to keep the "shocking discovery" every episode, but after a while you could tell they just picked something out of a hat or something most viewers had already figured out.

Just wait until they find the guy with the funny hat on the other side of The Island.
