Curious George 2: Follow that Monkey!

I watched 30 minutes of this with my sick 2 year old.

It was okay.  2.5 out of 4 balls.

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

The Crazies. (The new one)

Not as good as I remembered. It still has some B'dass scenes though.

It was much better than the original IMO.  The original was just weird camp.

Last movie I saw was the Day of the Dead remake.

Just another zombie movie, and not a particularly well done one, nothing exciting. I liked the original Day of the Dead, but the remake bore very little resemblance.

0.1 out of four balls. And that might be too generous.

Day Of The Dead films can be confusing, there is the original, which is a second sequel to Night Of The Living Dead (which has had two named remakes, a colourised edition and a special edition with tacked on footage) following on from Dawn Of The Dead (which has also had one named remake) AKA Zombi (which generated two unrelated in name only sequels) and not Return Of The Living Dead the novel (which was a direct sequel to the original screenplay but turned into a spoof film with four sequels of it's own) or Escape Of The Living Dead (the comic book sequel to the first film which is getting it's own film adaptation) or Children Of The Living Dead (which is the film sequel to the previously mentioned Special Edition of the original film).

There was then a pseudo-sequel/prequel which may be getting a sequel and then a pseudo remake  (a pseudo sequel to the pseudo remake is also possibly in the works).

"Yo, Adrian"
Rocky - first time. Quite amazing, not gonna lie. And here I thought Sylvester Stallone was part of pop culture because he's got a funny voice! What a movie.

Also, it was amusing to see my mother pridefully boast as she recognized all the places in his training montage.

Day Of The Dead films can be confusing...

I like the original three George Romero flicks (Night of the Living, Dawn of, and Day of), and I actually kind of enjoyed the much more recent Land of Dead, though it is much more inline with the modern campy zombie film genre (when did it become a rule that you can't make a serious zombie movie?) Unfortunately Romero's last two of the Dead films have for some reason really focused on the camp aspect and were absolutely awful.

Zack Snyder's remake of Dawn of the Dead may very well be my favorite zombie movie aside from the original Night of the Living Dead. I've actually still yet to get around to seeing Tom Savini's Night of the Living Dead, though I'd like to.

Though the 3D remakes of Night of the Living Dead or John Russo(co-creator of the original)'s 30th anniversary cut have never held any interest to me, nor have John Russo's independent series of sequels, or the Italian sequels to Dawn of the Dead, or any of the various other non-official sequels.

Crazy how much baggage a franchise can acquire when you allow the original to fall into the public domain.

Where is this black & white version you speak of?

On the second disc of the DVD/Blu-ray.

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

This reminds me of a huge debate I've had more than once over whether or not the first three Romero Dead films depict the same zombie apocalypse. I'd go into it here, but I don't want to derail this thread. So if you're interested, meet me behind the junior high at 2pm. Bring weapons.

You forgot to ask permission from the school bully in the New Thread Thread.   Fail.

Dogtooth.  A movie so odd, it breaks the ball scale.

The Mist (black & white version)

I've avoided this movie for a long time because I had the ending spoiled shortly after it came out and read nothing but bad reviews, but I'm a sucker for black & white films, and so I thought I'd give it a shot.

This was a cool concept bogged down in bad characterization - specifically a very generic and somewhat unlikeable hero supported by a grocery store full of stereotypes - and full of very obvious and derivative plot turns. The ending really left me asking, "What is the take-away?" What are we supposed to walk away from this film thinking about? I don't mind ambiguity. I like being left with things to think about, I like unanswered questions, but The Mist seemed to not know what it was trying to bestow on its audience. Do not tamper with nature? Do not blindly follow authority? We're all damned? I don't know.

The creature effects were sometimes decent, sometimes terrible. I would've much preferred more animatronics and less CGI. At least a creative blend of the two that leaves you unsure how the filmmakers achieved a given shot, but instead it was pretty clear that 99% of the special effects in this movie were done on a computer.

After a hugely disappointing first season of The Walking Dead, and now this, I'm beginning to wonder if Darabont's Shawshank Redemption was a fluke.

1.5 out of 4 balls.

The bolded tends to be the moral of most Stephen King stories, especially "The Mist". ;-)

I've not seen the movie, not sure why, its one of my favorite stories of his.
