American Graffiti someone posted a 35mm scan that is allegedly HD on archive.
Now I don’t know if this is upscaled 1973 cut or if it’s the 1978 cut or not but there is gate weave and print damage and a fair amount of grain. It’s also sitting at 16 gigs.
I think THX 1138 was there at one time as well but all I can find is a 2-gigabyte version.
I also watched the beginning of the 70mm premiere cut of The Empire Strikes back.
Also, Superman 4K theatrical UHD the original 70mm mix is seriously lacking in punch its mixed very low I had to really turn it up. Its not very high res I’m glad to have it but I bet the Atmos sounds louder. And louder is more impactful on low quality soundbars.
Grindhouse THX its no bigger than 5 gigs and only at 720P resolution, a bummer. Wish I had access to the actual 1080P file from the original scan of the IB tech print, but the screens and dialog were in English. Marrying laserdisc and blu ray footage to the 35mm scan is less than ideal. Whoever did this must have had no choice to do this to recompose the 1977 version.
Watched the Time Machine Letterbox Laserdisc. Very good color transfer, sadly the audio is remixed and it’s not the theatrical mono.
I also watched Willow THX the laser rot was bad on side 1, less bad on side 2, then very bad on side 3. I was very engaged with the plot and it was quite enjoyable, but I also feel like Willow and Madmartigan or Sorsha aren’t really all that well developed as characters, though I like them. Bavmorda is kind of a weak villain and General Kael is a pale imitation of Vader. The worst part of the movie is the Brownies, I know why they are there for the fantasy aspect, but the effects of how they are in the movie don’t work, and they are worse than Jar Jar to me. Ebersisk is cool as a monster and the music is great. Did they run out of money or something because I feel like a ton of stuff was cut out. Tir Asleen never really feels like this grand place. Its never set up, you only see if in ruin.
I also watched the first issue Japan Star Wars the rot is horrible and never improves this is the non-time compressed, the US release I also watched time compressed the rot gets better as the movie goes on.
