Okay but all you guys implying that Citizen Kane isn’t fantastic can eat it.

Citizen Kane is great! I admire it more on a purely technical level than as a work of entertainment, but there’s no doubt it’s one of the most influential films of all time.

Avengers: Age of Thanos – It was okay.

I not implying anything. I get why it’s held in high regard, it just leaves me cold. I don’t hate it or anything. SNL did a hilarious spot on parody of it back in the 70’s.
Steve Spielberg is a huge fan considering he paid over 60K to get his hands on Rosebud back in 1982. Must be worth millions now.

watched Incredibles 2 tuesday. i really liked it, even though i saw the plot twist coming a mile away, and i wanted mr. incredible to beat the shit out of someone at some point, but that didn’t happen. i also thought that we’d see more from the underminer, given how hyped he was to me (mostly because of the ps2 game). i loved jack-jack in this one, i laughed soooo hard when he fought the raccoon. loved it. the first one was still better, but i absolutely loved this one too.

Someone told me tonight they don’t like Godfather pt 2 because the parallel plot structure is confusing. He wishes the stories had been told more “gracefully.” I want to cry.

I didn’t take much of a liking to Part II either but I loved the parallel plot structure.

Star Wars: A New Hope

Saw a screening with a symphony orchestra performing the music live to the film. Obviously never going to match the actual recordings by Williams but a great experience nonetheless.

I’m Mr. Know-It-All.
Here’s a clue… Grab the spinning rings. It’s important. As long as you’ve got the rings, you’ll be okay, even if
you hit any hazards. Now you know.

Oh, and don’t worry if the
view suddenly changes. It does that sometimes. Just keep moving in the direction you want. It may take a little time to get used to it, so keep trying.

Did they decrescendo in the parts where the Special Edition sound mix drowns out the score on the DVD?

Avanti! – A lot of fun! Billy Wilder, Jack Lemmon, great soundtrack, Italy… what’s not to love?

2001: A Space Odyssey, 70mm projection.

Holy s**t. I’ve shared my thoughts on the film in this thread before. And the presentation—incredible. The texture, the subtle flicker, the wobbly location cards. All so beautiful. I even enjoy seeing the black cue marks.

Only issue with the presentation was a few persistent vertical hair lines on the last few reels. But I guess imperfections like that are the trade-off. And it’s totally worth it.

I need to see that. No idea how to get tickets for it, though.

I forgot to post about that. I also saw the 50th anniversary 70mm presentation a couple weeks ago. It was wonderful. Seeing the opening on the big screen was awe inspiring. I will never be impressed by the stargate sequence again thanks to that experience. 😛

Here, hope this helps: https://www.2001spaceodysseymovie.com/tickets/

Thanks!

I didn’t buy tickets until an hour before the show. Expected a nearly empty theater (a 50 year-old movie that’d been playing for a week). Was shocked, but impressed, to find a nearly-full theater by curtain up. (yes, real curtains that slowly opened as the musical intro ended! Repeated after intermission)

So plan ahead to be safe
