Johnny Depp suddenly appearing in the finale to top off this gross cake!
I totally read this the wrong way.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016)
I wanted like this movie, and I did for a while actually, but I spent most of the last half or so feeling uncomfortable. Between the child-beating subplot, and the sadistic execution scene, and other bizarre bits of “why?!”, there’s a pervasive grossness to this movie that I couldn’t ignore. O, hi Johnny Depp suddenly appearing in the finale to top off this gross cake!
I wanted a fun fantasy flick, but this was draining.

I thought Harry Potter was wholesome family entertainment?
Where were you in '77?
I don’t think this is really Harry Potter.
I thought Harry Potter was wholesome family entertainment?
And this movie actually was fun, wholesome entertainment for a while. They were chasing around some cute little CG things and general hijinks ensued. Suddenly, about halfway through the runtime I estimate, we see a woman preparing to beat her son with his belt, and then after a strange (possibly anti-semetic?) charicature alerts the magic police of the presence of the hero group, they get arrested and sentenced to death by very gruesome means, but the executioners enjoy every second of it. They escape, of course, but man, it was hard to watch.
And, again, Johnny Depp is in this movie, and he is scum, so suddenly everything bad here fits a bit too well.
Other than that, I did like the the main hero characters (and I can have a good time just looking at Eddie Redmayne for a while). I liked a lot of the designs of various things and places as well. It’s really a shame, there are good things here, but they can’t escape the bad taste left by the awful parts of the movie.

Are you referring to the Trump thing and/or other things?

I was referring to the wife-beating thing, the Trump thing is news to me.
.
Huh, the wife-beating thing was news to me. That’s much worse.
And reading about it, it’s terrible how little coverage it seems to have gotten.
The Last Unicorn (1982)
Wonderful fantasy. I didn’t care for most of the songs - they didn’t fit the tone of the movie very well - but the dialogue is exceptionally well written and the visuals are often beautiful.
One out of one unicorn.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)

People were ready to hang him on twitter at the time sans any evidence. It sounded like another ugly celebrity divorce being played out in the tabloids and the court of public opinion.

I know this is an odd thought to take away from this, but I’m honestly surprised Alice Cooper kept letting him play with him after that. He’s always seemed like a (surprisingly considering his stage presence) very moral and kind family man behind the scenes. at least post-70s. Maybe he’s in denial about it.

I have been told, on two wholly separate occasions, that I remind people of Prince Lir.
I try to not be insulted by this.

At least you don’t remind them of King Haggard 😉

I thought you looked more like Brendon from Home Movies.
Miss Representation (2011)
I find myself in fundamental agreement with the messages and most of the ideas presented, but it’s not a particularly well made movie.

THE MUMMY
Yeah, sure, watevs.
A sort of by-the-numbers actioner. I didn’t see the cause for all the scorn it received in some quarters.
It had a couple of great action sequences and some clever concepts that didn’t quite play to full potential.
I wasn’t especially thrilled to have seen it, and wasn’t particularly bothered, either.
How many Mummies have they made now?
The Brendan Frasier movie was dumb dumb dumb but my God, Rachel Weisz sure was lovely in it.
Actually that one wasn’t that bad, I like to exaggerate a little.
The first Fraser Mummy was better than the last Indiana Jones movie. 😉

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

More Rachel, less Brendan please.
Baby Driver (2017)
Something uniquely Edgar Wright; a mix of choreography and car chases, gun fights and good music, emotion and charm. Fast paced, brilliantly edited, it’ll put a smile on your face while you’re on the edge of your seat.

I keep confusing that with The Boss Baby and I’m all like “why is this getting good reviews?”
