I love 2010.
Part of what I love about it is that it didn't feel the need to try to recapture whatever it was that made 2001 great - it is its own film.
Damn it, now I want to watch 2010 again...
2010 is much better than one would expect. So are the three novels.
Touch of Evil. The restored cut-Still mind blowing and a definite influence on Psycho. We are mere mortals. Only Orson could make Charlton Heston convincing as a Mexican.

There are four novels (each set in a slightly different universe) 2001, 2010, 2061, 3001.
The three Time Odyssey books are similarly connected.
Yeah, I meant to say three novel sequels. Haven't read those in ages. They do get a little out there but there is a SW reference! (in 2061 I think..) 3001 was a bit much though.
LMS: Ady's ESB reconstruction on a projector and sound system. Brilliant. Can never go back the GOUT again. (save for d-j.)

I, too, just finished watching Ady's ESB 1980 theatrical version on a 1080p projector with a nice surround system about three hours ago. Loved every second of it. Odd that we both watched it on the same night with pretty much the same setup...your name's not Kyle or Grant, is it?!
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

No it isn't my name.
That is really weird. What are the chances? I didn't watch it in HD, but upscaled to 1080. Should have taken a photo.

"Inception"
and
"Bronson"
First "Inception"
Not bad, but did not think it was as good as I was expecting.
Just thought it would be a bit more original, and not go so much into the cheesy type cliches. The acting was good, but I did not feel that all the characters had been fully developed. I did enjoy Tom Hardy a lot, and just can't believe he is the same guy from "Star Trek: Nemesis". His performance was so good, that I also watched his film "Bronson" latter that night.
"Bronson" was top rate. Good writing, acting, and direction.

Re: Tom hardy I felt exactly the same way. It's good to see him not phoning it in.
I'm actually just about to sit down nd watch a fanedit o fNemesis so that should be i nteresting...
Also just saw the motion comic of Inception : the cobol job [sp?] which was pretty good.
Been watching Avatar : the long long version. loving the new stuff.
Watched Inception last night.
I love, love, love this movie. It is one of the most inventive and mind-bendingly excellent things to come out in quite some time. Of course its visual impact is somewhat diminished on a 24" 4:3 crt rather than projected onto a large screen, but really cranking the 5.1 sound helps make up for that. ;)
At the end of the film, I'm about 90% certain that what we just saw actually took place, but the remaining ten percent is remembering the little strange details and trying to come up with alternative explanations. lol
In addition to the sheer excellence of the ideas, one of the things I like about the movie is that the central problem of the story is character-based. As cool as the plot is, it would not exist without this aspect, and everything that happens is that much richer and more meaningful because of it. When I was young I vastly underestimated how important this actually is to storytelling, but now having occasionally engaged in writing myself it is all too easy to see when something fails to deliver any real depth. Fortunately, Inception has it in spades.
I've heard some kerfuffle about the PAL dvd being of horrible picture quality, filled with jaggies like other recent WB dvd releases, but the NTSC version seemed to be just fine. I saw only perhaps two instances of very minor aliasing, nothing at all like the horrific jaggies that plague The Dark Knight dvd. Now obviously it's much harder to see that on a small screen, but The Dark Knight is often at GOUT levels of aliasing or worse, while Inception looked just like a dvd is supposed to look as far as I could see. By all means get the Bluray if you can, but at least we seem to have been spared the blatant dvd-sabotage WB intermittently inflicts these days.
I really need to get adywan's version of ESB one of these days. I keep meaning to look for it, but I've been holding off watching any Star Wars films until dark_jedi's v3 GOUT project is ready, so I don't get burned out on them and can enjoy all three as films without worrying too much about the technical aspects. Still, I should really get on that . . .
THE INCEPTION THREAD IS BACK!
Watched the bonus features the other day. Had no idea Christopher Nolan was British. I agreed with everything he said about filmmaking, especially the part where he says something along the lines of "I want to do as much as I can practically in camera and enhance it with CG if I need to".
Love. It.

I'm very excited to see INCEPTION as soon as Netflix gets it...

I'm out.
;-)
Did you know that Christopher Nolan wants to direct a Bond film? I have heard him express this wish in an interview. The Dark Knight and Inception both had very "Bond" like action scenes, and I would love to see Nolan direct a 007 flick. The assault on the mountain fortress in Inception seems like a blatant nod to OHMSS and other Bond films.

Agreed. I was thinking of OHMSS the entire time during that sequence.
Inception, and did it look and sound GREAT on Blu, I also got the Inception Briefcase from Germany complete with steelbook and spinner top, very COOL set! to a great movie.
Inception

Oh, I've just understood it:
... Excepted that, last movie seen: Usual Suspects.
Very very good... Would have been better though if I wouldn't have guessed the trick before the end.
So was Nolan. Bond was the inspiration for that whole dream level!ChainsawAsh said:

That's a bummer. That was one of those movies that blew my mind at first, but was still very entertaining upon watching again just because I could watch Kevin Spacey stare at a bag of rocks for two hours and be entertained.Leguman said:

Getting hyped to watch "Dante's Peak" six times in the next two days.
Usual Suspects would need a fan restoration though !...
Meh. Every movie has shit like that. It doesn't bother me.
Usual Suspects is one of my favorite movies of all time, though. I need to watch it again...
