Get off your ass and do it anyway man! You've got to know some girls out there that you wouldn't mind taking out, even if it is more just in the context of friends.
Why so afraid of this stuff? Most girls are too nice to laugh at a guy or slap him when he asks her out, and they usually feel bad saying no to a guy and try to do so in the nicest way possible.
If you want to swim, you have to get your feet wet first. Worst case scenario is she laughs at you (or slaps you) and you realize she is kind of a jerk (or really a violent person), and you wouldn't want to go out with someone like that anyway.
So come on, go ask that girl at church or that girl at the coffee shop or where ever she is (there has to be some girl somewhere) out to Inception. If she is smart, she isn't going to turn down a free ticket to a movie. ;)

Oooooo... Please elaborate. This movie really surprised me when I offered a heartfelt "meh" at its conclusion. I guess I didn't see in it what everyone else, especially the academy, did.

when I said I didn't have the money, I meant it. I don't even have the money to take myself to the theater.
And I truly don't know any girl to ask out. Just about all of the women in my church that are around my age are already married.

Well... At least she should have the money to take you out.

Spoilers ahead. Well, despite its many fabricated elements, I found A Beautiful Mind to be a very touching story. I mean, there the viewer is, introduced to Nash's best friend - the one who supposedly helps keep him going in college - only to find out later on that he roomed alone. I walked into the movie knowing that he did government work, so the entire operation being a delusion was a surprise; instead, we hypothesized that the shootout was the only fake element in the job. His major hallucination, in which his fake job and friend tell him to "take care of" his wife... well, that really got me. Mainly because he was so close to beating it until he stopped taking his meds, and he paid the price. And then, the second to final scene - where he's presented the pens at Princeton, one of those few moments of true recognition that he'd always wanted - there was another moment I cried. It's a shame that was fictitious. End plot spoilers, but below details Nash's real life.
Well, first off, his hallucinations in real life were only auditory as that's how Schizophrenia mainly works. Second, his wife did divorce him (although they did get back together after his winning the Nobel prize). Third, he worked for RAND rather than the Pentagon (in the canon of the movie, his very first job where he notices "big brother" is real). Also, he stopped taking his medication in the 1970's unless under big pressure - however, the movie implies that he continues so as not to encourage other schizophrenics to take a chance. Also, he never gave an acceptance speech when he got the Nobel prize.
I don't really know... maybe it's because my uncle has schizophrenia, but I didn't know him very well (he's currently comatose thanks to an operation gone wrong) so I doubt that's the entire case. I'm kind of a sap in general, so take the above as you will.

Aliens - 1986 Theatrical Cut.
For some reason, I'd never seen the theatrical cut of Aliens, just the '91 Special Edition. I have to say, overall ... I prefer the theatrical cut.
Not because most of the added scenes don't benefit the film. They do. The sentry gun sequence is thrilling, the more explicit mother/daughter subplot between Ripley and Newt is touching, and there's generally a little more breathing room.
However, after seeing the theatrical cut, I now have one huge problem with the Special Edition. The scenes of the colonists on LV-426 before the alien attack.
Sure, it's nice to see the colonists before they're all wiped out. Sure, it's nice to get a little family background on Newt. Sure, it's nice to know that she plays hide-and-seek in the ducts, and that's how she's so used to the small spaces in the city that she was able to hide from the aliens for weeks.
But those scenes absolutely kill any and all suspense that you get when the Marines reach the base. There's no what the fuck happened here moment in the viewer's mind because, well, we already know what happened. No, we weren't shown how the colony was completely wiped out, but we know that an alien was definitely brought in, and we can quickly connect the dots from there, so we can come up with a pretty good idea of what the Marines are going to find when they go into the colony.
I don't know why Cameron decided to put those scenes back in. The Special Edition would be fucking perfect if everything else about it were the same, but the scenes with the colonists remained out.
Anyway, it's still an immensely awesome movie. One of my favorites.
First of all, this post isn't about Inception, but you did see it so I'm chosing to be lenient. But that doesn't mean I read it very closely.

I guess I don't understand your point. The movie title, "Aliens" doesn't already give this away? What suspense is there supposed to be? Is there, perhaps, going to be a different kind of alien, and this suspense is ruined because we already know which alien will be there?
I guess the suspense in the movie doesn't come from not knowing what aliens might have been brought to the camp... but how the marines are going to fare. They are extremely confident, and we aren't sure if they deserve to be.

Saw Apocalypse Now Redux for the first time tonight (I seem to be watching a lot of bleak of late) glad I watched it at home and not in a cinema, I imagine it works better that way for that cut.
I remember seeing the original cut in a real flea pit, now an Art House Cinema, (stripped pine seed cakes, the works) but back then it was the sort of place where H-list rock stars would drop pills and make a scene in the balcony seats and I'm glad that was my first experience of the film. All the Doors fans were singing The End like it was The Rocky Horror Picture Show or something (someone should have brought a pinata for the appropriately gruesome animal chopping scene).
Every time I see the film I can't forget the irony of the BBC cutting Kurtz's late entry F-Bomb when it was in a line about the contextual absurdity of censorship.
I like both cuts. I know a lot of people feel the extra material adds unnecessary length to the film but pfff at least the original still exists (George).
I've never seen any version of Apocalypse Now...
...I know, I know.
I haven't either.
But this isn't the Last movie not seen thread...
moving on...
That would make a good thread. You post a movie you haven't seen, and everyone berates you for it.
I refuse to watch Citizen Kane out of fear of finding out it isn't the Citizen Kane of movies.
I saw Apocalypse Now a few years ago on AMC. It was too confusing for me.

The army sends a guy into the jungle to assasinate a special forces Colonel who's gone rogue, Weird shit happens along the way. That's about it.
Although there are some moments that can put a smile on your face like a squadron of helicopters cruising along blasting "Ride of the valkyries."
Come to think of it, my favourite scenes in the film have nothing to do with the main plot, Willard stealing a surfboard, guys getting chased by a tiger...
Last movie seen = Cloverfield.
Last movie i haven't seen = Inception.
