It was fun!
The entire movie is still on vimeo if anyone is so inclined.
My local drive-in had the new film a few weeks ago and the signs out front said "John Carter of Mars". I applauded as I drove past.SilverWook said:
It aired as "A Princess of Mars", but for the DVD it's been retitled "John Carter of Mars". A dig at Disney's cryptic marketing scheme?

As you... drove... past?
Thanks a lot, 005. First Ringo and his 1 ball and now this.
IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.
I think I may have said that you said to see that, but my wife said "who cares?"xhonzi said:

Ringo? Don't you mean Rango? I mean, god knows I love the man with the most amazing nose of all time, but I don't think we rate drummers on the ball system...

I believe he was talking about me. Alien3 - the long version. It's overly long to watch in a single sitting and some of the effects shots look a bit dodgy. a bit of dialogue here and there is too faint - i understand this is bacause some parts are sourced from workprint footage where they never did ADR. Overall good fun. It's the movie that introduced me to the saga so there are fond memories. 3 balls. I've now seen all the Alien films in preparation for Prometheus, shouldn't be too long now..
The Life of Brian is being watched in my house at the moment. It is my favorite Monty Python movie.
Mine too!
So many people seem to hate it, which is a shame because it is brilliant.
Dark Shadows (2012)
I was iffy about seeing this but a couple of my friends kept putting off their seeing it until I could so I went ahead. It was an okay film. I've only seen a handful of episodes of the original but I do plan to keep watching. This film however I could have done without. Very weird hero in Johnny Depp's Barnabas Collins. We're supposed to root for him but he's frequently killing innocent people. The other thing that bothered me was how oversexualized the film was. With Depp sleeping with everyone and their making Chloë Grace Moretz character very slutty when she's barely 15 in real life. Just odd. I feel bad for fans of the real Dark Shadows.
There was a Dark Shadows movie made with the original cast in the early 70's that is quite faithful to the show. Hopefully, that will finally get a DVD or Blu Ray release now.
Where were you in '77?
Finally got around to seeing the original Planet of the Apes now that it's on netflix. As amazing as I've always heard. I also appreciate 'Rise of the planet of the Apes' that much more now that I get the references.
Also saw Serenity now that I've finally finished Firefly. (I went a few months without internet) It adequately ties up all of the loose ends. I'm sure I didn't experience the same excitement as the people who waited years for it but Firefly is now in my unsorted top five shows of all time.
Watched Religulous. It expresses all of my feelings about religion better and more concise than I'd ever be able to. From now on when I get in religion arguments I'll just refer them to this movie.
Edit: Also Avengers. Awesome.
Edit: Oh yeah, The original Alien as well as Aliens appeared on TV during those dark ages. Alien is now my favorite film of all time.
Seen Religulous a few times, it's one of the things i put on sometimes in the background while I'm working. I could listen to Bill Maher read the phone book.
Re: Serenity. I actually saw it without knowing anything about it or Firefly, then later checked out the series. - The only problem with that is knowing the fates of certain characters, but I followed the movie fine without needing a bunch of awkward exposition shoehorned in.

That's fixed on the Blu-Ray. Sigourney Weaver, Charles Dance, and whoever else they needed lines for came in and did their ADR. Shame they didn't gather them together for the DVD version.
Water for Elephants (2011)
Just finished the film. It was one I really wanted to catch in theater but never got the chance. I wish I had, I enjoyed it. They did an excellent job recreating the time period. There was also something I realized for the first time while watching the film. I probably never have before because I rarely watch romantic films but thinking back to the ones I have a lot of them do this. And that is having the story conveyed by one of the main characters long after they've grown old. Just off the top of my head: Big Fish, Titanic, The Notebook, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Phantom of the Opera. Now that I've realized this it kind of bugs me.
I'd heard they polished it off a bit more for that. might check it out at some point - I'd also be interested in seeing the tweaked blu-ray version of Aliens..
RIP revival theaters. According to this petition, movie studios have promised to stop shipping out 35mm films entirely - whether they have them in the vaults already or not! This applies to both new films, and old (the latter being the bigger problem IMO). For those interested on reading more, here's an article about the disappearance of 35mm in general.

A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
Kooky (2010)
I've been waiting to see this one for a long time. It was...enchanting. Wonderful, creative film! Definitely one I want to own.
Lifeboat (1944).
Beautifully framed but not as suspenseful as I remembered it.
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2012)
3 out of 5 creepy fairy folk.
Despite the somewhat silly fairies, I actually enjoyed it through and through up the last five minutes, which I was unimpressed with.

One that instantly springs to mind is Mad Max II.
Name Of The Rose has the same old narrator angle but minus the surprise twist.
