My Neighbor Totoro. I was crying constantly throughout it. Just a wonderful film.

In The Loop - 10/10

Easily the best documentary about the War on Terror that I have ever seen!

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

Source Code (2011) and The Man From Earth (2007).

I shan't discuss the plots of either other than say that like Inception (2010) they are pretty solid philosophical 'mind toy' plots.

While you watch them you will probably go along with the game and hopefully roll around the possibilities for some time after the films have finished.

They are both well cast, economically directed (even if The Man From Earth is more of a stage performance experience than a cinematic one).

If The Twilight Zone was continuously being made until the present day, both would have been very satisfactory episodes.

Both 3.5 infinite probability matrices out of 5.

I enjoyed Source Code. Probably one of my favorite movies of 2011.

On a completely unrelated note, the director of Source Code is David Bowie's son.

Bottle Shock- We've had this on our Netflix instant queue for years.  Since we're going to go on Neflix holiday soon, I wanted to knock out the titles on our queue that we really wanted to see, and this made the cut.

1. It didn't ressemble System Shock or BioShock at all.

0/5 balls

2. Aside from that, it was actually quite enjoyable.  It seems like it could use some better editing... the movie doesn't seem to have much focus and major characters disappear for what seems like too long.  But it was still fun and I consider this to be the true oigin of Capt. James T. Kirk and how he met... erm... a Hispanic Checkov.

3/5 brown chardonnays

Chaos Theory- I'm not sure how this ended up on our queue.  But my wife wanted to watch something sweet, and I thought this was a "romantic comedy" so I turned it on.  In the first 10 minutes, the men are all asked to reveal their pet names for their penises and we knew that we were in slightly different territory than had been charted.  We skipped to the end of that scene and then quite enjoyed the rest of the movie- though none of it was very "sweet".  Really an impressive performance from Ryan Reynolds.  You would never know that he was this capable based on the rest of his filmography.  It's a Reynolds I could believe as Hal Jordan... but I think the other Ryan Reynolds is more on display in that.  But I haven't seen it yet, so I could be wrong.

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

Saw Super 8 last night. Simply fantastic. The kids were great. It's the first 'summer blockbuster' film I've seen in long while that cares about the characters and takes time to get to know them. It's like Stand By Me+The Goonies+ET+Close Encounters+Jaws.

8 out of 10 balls.

I must agree with your assessment of super 8.  Only i kind of resent it because its responsible for the long delay for star trek 12, or 2 as its now being called.

That and crap like MI4. Which JJ is not even directing.

Partly inspired by Warb, I re-watched Jesus Christ Superstar (1973).

It's a bit of a strange experience, by 1973 the hippy passion play framing device was already dated.

Every time I watch the piece I'm sexually distracted by Bob Bingham, his voice really rattles my pans, his impressive beard and chest are pretty much pornographic from my viewpoint.

Philip Toubus ironically does nothing for me despite appearing in almost every one of my late father's impressive porn tape collection.

It's still my favorite incarnation of the music and it has some really interesting visual juxtapositions.

Love the afro wigs too.

Twenty pieces of silver out of thirty.

I also saw Grace Of My Heart (1996) which is a Carol King biopic with all the names, some of the songs and some of the events changed or shuffled around to protect the producers from legal action.

Not having access to the real Carol King songs (or the real Beach Boys for that matter) necessitated the creation of some very interesting (in their own right) pastiches.

Watching it is a bit like watching the divergent universe sequences of Fringe.

While spotting the difference between the real world and the one in the film is slightly distracting, ultimately the performances hold up surprisingly well.

13 Assassins.

Holy effing fuck. Its like they got into my mind and made a movie based on what they saw. This has broken into my top ten.

It's on Netflix, see it now.

I'm somewhat amused by the oath you employed there, Bloodnose.... though I am loathe to reprint it.

Because of Frink, I watched the Star Wars: Holiday Special. Not too bad if you're watching while doing something else... It's one of those films that's worse in your memories. I was watching Rikter's KCCI version. Is this still the best?

I had to get that image of the Jedi Rocks singer out of my head... and I wanted to make sure changing my vote to Carrie Fisher's song being better was the right decision.

Saw The Tree of Life again. I may have to move it to my top 5 films of all time. Every second of that film is perfect to me. But I don't rearrange the top 5 lightly, so we'll have to see how I feel about it after I watch it at home.

In anticipation of this second viewing, I watched Badlands, Days of Heaven, and The Thin Red Line (I saw The New World when it came out). I think Days of Heaven was my favorite of the three, and The Thin Red Line my least. TTRL failed to really connect with me like Malick's other films. I'd rank them like this:

The Tree of Life - 10/10
Days of Heaven - 10/10
Badlands - 9/10
The New World - 8/10
The Thin Red Line - 7/10

This puts Terrence Malick easily in my top 5 favorite directors after Kurosawa, Kubrick, and Coen, and before Wilder.
