I agree 100%. Chasing Amy is one of my most despised films of all time. Gives me the dry heaves. I hate Kevin Smith's dialogue. Every character in every one of his movies talks the same.
Watched JJ Trek again. Really liked the are you out of your vulcan mind comment by bones, and great going jim now we have no captain and no goddamn first officer to replace him.
That movie was made by Karl Urban, the Kirk actor was annoying and acted like a douche and so did spocklar.
The non phasers were ridiculous the enterprise was a hyped up hotrod with frickin 747 engine turbines on it and an apple store bridge, and the cinematogrpahy was ruined by the lens flares and the shaky cam. But the overall action and direction were not bad, the writing was passable at times when not laughable like time travel blackholes and redmatter, or Romulans who sound positively mary sue and have Australian accents.
The music was good and the ensemble cast was good if you can get over pine and Quinto acting like sullen jerks for most of the movie.

I liked it, but if hated it why did you watch it?
Sometimes it's good to watch a film you don't like initially just to see if it caught you on a bad day.
I still think it's an average Star Trek film.
It's Nemesis with a bit of the Enterprise pilot mixed in.
Not bad but hardly the great experiment that's going to put new life into the series.
Oh i loved it i just thought its a mixed bag like most films really or star trek films for that matter, but hey i liked the motionless picture even though i liked Khan as a follow up as well.
Trek V is horrible though it does have some decent moments between the 3 main characters. Generations and insurrection are pretty junk too, first contact was a good actioner but not really a star trek message film like some of the others.
I think the Old Trek made better films though i can see why they decided to retread that even if i think it is not a very inspired idea. Maybe better than the next next generation, tv series i heard they had planned, with kirks descendent and a dead federation and a final enterprise brought out of mothballs.

I pretty much agree with you on that.

No spoilers.
Loved it. I've never made any secret of the fact that I'm a Planet Of The Apes nerd. I probably watch the original twice a year and the score is a regular listen as well. That said, it's the only one I care to own. The others from the original franchise are guilty pleasures if they come on cable, with the only exception being Beneath - that one I can't stand. I think the Burton remake is terrible. The whole thing is just more of Burton's single-note style of film making. Burton Aesthetic first, story second.
This new one, an origin story, was really done well. It's an origin story in the truest sense of the phrase. I found it interesting and really felt for the main character, Caesar. It really is a very Caesar-centric film, which made it for me.
Which brings me to my only criticism of the film - Franco. His character is fine, as is the story around him. What jumped out at me after about thirty minutes is his lack of depth or range. He's little more than a script reader. However, because the story isn't really about his character, per se, I really didn't care. Same for Freda Pinto. She's window dressing with what I would guess is maybe 10 minutes of screen time total.
The CGI wasn't glaring at all and it never took me out of the movie. I was more interested in the story and Caesar. To Planet Of The Apes nerds, there are a few references back to the original (some obvious, some subtle) and I thought they were all done either interestingly or tastefully. The film ends leaving a clear opening for a second film. Speaking of which, stay for the titles because a sequel question is answered during them.
In closing: Later this year, my Planet Of The Apes DVD collection will double in size. I give Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes an easy 5 out of 5 chocolate chip cookies.
I'm glad to hear it.
Especially coming from you.
It's a prequel to Planet of the Apes and a remake of Conquest.
That makes no sense.
Raiders of the Lost Ark - 10/10
Temple of Doom - 8/10
The Last Crusade - 9/10
Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.
I never really cared for Last Crusade. Maybe because it was too much like Raiders.
Last Crusade is like a flat soda. Still good, but just lifeless. Had a choice between picking up an LD of it or this other movie from 1989...
Batman. Found a shrinkwrapped LD and finally did the shootout I've wanted to do since getting the 2disc DVD. I've always disliked the 5.1 remix for this film and after getting DTS capable I still wasn't satisfied. (Although the DTS mix is not bad at all, it still does not feel right) To my ears the DVD mixes sounded a bit tinny and very subdued. There's little to no low end. The LD proved me right. When a good sounding Dolby Stereo movie gets remixed into 5.1 all the subtleties get lost in the process. On LD the mix is more balanced and has just the right amount of low end for the Keaton punch.
And it was nice to see in the composed 1.85:1 ratio instead of cropped to 1.78:1. I know it's a minute difference, but everything just has more room and if it's they way it was composed, why change it?

It makes no sense because that's not really the case. Part of it shares a skeletal arc with Conquest, but not nearly enough to be considered a remake. However, it can most definitely be a prequel to the 1968 film.
But it couldn't be a prequel because Caesar is the child of Cornelius and Zira who don't exist yet..unless this would undo all of the original sequels? I love doing POTA what ifs.

Sukiyaki Western Django
What drew me to this movie was reading about Tarantino's new film "Django Unchained" and my love for the original speghetti western "Django".
This is a Japanese prequel to "Django" The actors speak english which I really didn't like. most of them were very awkward sounding, the main characters at least did a decent job. I think I would have enjoyed it much more if it was subtitled. Even if they are bad actors, I would have no idea.
The story was all over the place and so was the tone. Theres a scene where a guy is shot and the camera zooms out so that we see that he's got a giant cartoony hole in his stomach but then we see a scene where a kids dad is shot and we're supposed to take it seriously. I really wish they didn't jump all over the place like that.
But, if you accept that this is a ridiculous movie you can enjoy the insane plot and even more insane action.
3 bloody, lifeless hands out of 5
Also, If you are a fan of Western and samurai films, there are many references for you to spot.

That's probably my reason too. I think it is a better movie than Doom, but at least Doom was visually different, and interesting. So I think Doom was a worthy sequel.
Crystal Skull pissed me off for how ugly the film was. The original Indy films had a beauty to them. Gotta tip your hat to Douglas Slocombe's keen eye. Plus any scene that could've looked good had a thick coat of yellow over it.
Lucas seems to have problems with 3rd films.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

The movie that never happened was shot by a master of uninteresting cinematography and garish coloring, Kaminski, in a way to imitate and honor Slocombe's original work.
Yeah right. If the movie truly had no CGI and was done just like in the old days (they were referring to the 80's vintage of the first films-not 30's serials) then the two most powerful movie producers would have easily done a down and dirty 35mm production on the cheap and maybe rekindled some of the initial Raiders magic that so captured our imaginations and is so desperately need again.
But no! That would make too much sense! And it wouldn't be as perfectly marketable to every demographic!
And if Connery wasn't going to be in the film then you know it had to not go very well.

Sean Connery is the best part of Last Crusade.
Anyway, my last movie seen was Black Swan. Never watch 2001, Fight Club, The Wall, Clockwork Orange, Moon, and Black Swan in a row. Your mind will explode.

Anchorhead, you've made my day! I've really been wanting to see this, but have been expecting it will suck. Hearing you say it is good just made me really excited about it.
Now I have to talk someone into going to see it with me.
Frink's mom will go with you...
