Not a bad storyline, but there was too little material for three issues, and Azbats has no chemistry with the Joker.

I’m kinda surprised that you don’t seem to hate the Azbats costume.

I kinda do, I kinda don’t. The first incarnation of the suit is a hot mess, but there are elements I like. I can’t say the same for the more !!!EXTREME!!! versions that came after.

The story was decent, if nothing special, though I liked the somewhat haunting ending. Mostly, though, I was here for the art. José Luis García-Lopez is, as the kids say, the GOAT.

I don’t know what’s worse — the terrible artwork or everything involving the burglar.

On the plus side, I did like the idea of combining Spidey’s & Ock’s origins, as well as the extra emphasis on Spidey’s rising celebrity.

The writing is … odd, but at least it’s not full of whores, ethnic/feminist/religious caricatures, and the other offensive junk Miller’s become infamous for in recent decades, which is nice. Hopefully the following issues will follow suit and keep out of the cesspool.

I really don’t know why JRjr has drawn half the characters as bobbleheads, though. I know his art’s always been an acquired taste, but I like most of his '90s output; the stuff in this issue looks really sloppy by comparison.

Darkly beautiful surreality in luscious B&W. There are times when I make impulse sight-unseen purchases which I end up regretting; this certainly isn’t one of those times. Incredible. Just incredible.

Just bought Flash Gordon in the Ice World of Mongo. With a introduction by Al Williamson. Black and White reprint of Alex Raymond. 1967 Nostalgia Press. I also just got in the black and white printing of Into the Water World of Mongo from 1971. Which is supposed to be proofs supplied by Williamson, though the reproduction is quite lacking.

Edit: was finally able to get volume 1 of the ridiculously priced and out of print Rip Kirby Volume one from IDW for under a hundred dollars. Now i just have to find the Definitive Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim for a non insane price from the library of comics from IDW, or Titan Books UK version of Flash. Going for over a hundred each now since both Titan and IDW lost the license to Mad Cave.

It isn’t just Alex Raymond either they let the Al Williamson Star Wars books and Secret Agent Corrigan go out of print as well. I don’t like paying collectors prices. I’d rather pay the 40 dollar cover price.

Addendum:The reproduction on Rip Kirby volume 1 is rather poor. Now i know why it got so many negative/mixed reviews. Volume 2 and on have very good reproduction and the art is better.
