Since you can check guns on an airplane (at least you could last time I checked, which was a while ago, but still more recently than 2004), I'd think a set of hunting knifes would fly just fine.

I think it was only worth watching because I/we expected so much out of it.  That did lead to disappointment in the end, but in the mean time I think it led also to the largest enjoyment of it.  Without high expectations, I don't think I would have enjoyed it nearly as much.  Almost to the point of it not being worth watching.

To me, that is a bit like saying that (to use a sports analogy, despite my extreme dislike of sports) a week old taped football game is worth watching, it had a lot of twists and turns and every one who saw it said it was one of the most exciting football games they had ever seen. Truly an exciting game, but only worth watching if you have high expectations for your team winning... despite the fact that you know they actually lost that game.

Yes, I said it! Lost is like a really amazing football game (oxymoron?), only it ends in the ultimate disappointment of your team losing. All sorts of great stuff happened during the game, making it a very thrilling experience. But knowing your team loses at the end, is it still worth a rewatch (or even a first viewing for a newcomer)? I debate this with myself. I'm inclined to say, "no", it isn't. But just hearing Fink and 005 talk about the Locke episode makes me remember how amazingly awesome it was at times, and almost makes me want to go home and watch an episode tonight.

Yeah, you never would have had a problem checking knives or (unloaded) guns on an airplane.  You just can't carry them on, and the guns have to be kept in a separate container from any ammunition, which needs to be in a locked container that only you have the key and/or combination to.  And you need to declare it when you're checking your bags.

Huh.  I stand corrected regarding the knives.

And I'm enjoying watching Lost so far, but we'll see how I feel when it's all over.

But even if you LOATHE the ending, think of how many dozens of hours of really compelling television you got out of it.

I wasn't hot on the conclusion, but darn I loved that show.

It better be more than one or two dozens, considering it lasted six years.

Well, since an episode, sans commercials, credits,  and "Previously on LOST" is only 42 min, there's only about 15 hours a season.

(15 hrs/season) x 6 seasons = 90 hrs / (12 hrs/dozen) = 7.5 dozens

I stand by my statement.

 I doubt your math.

(Season 4 was only 13 episodes long, and some of those episodes weren't standard length.  5 and 6 were also "short" and had some irregular episodes.)

But it's still closer to 7.5 dozens than 2.

I'm saying, take the Red pill.  Get into it.  Let your hopes rise to the sky even if they will ultimately be dashed on the rocks below.  It's the best way to watch it.  Heck, you might even like the ending.  Some people did.

I did.

I have my issues with it, and I would have liked to see certain things there -- but I really appreciated what they tried to do. And the ride alone made it worth it -- LOST is a perfect example of a show that is is not all about the end, but about the journey. And there are still plenty of character points and mysteries solved that were more than satisfying -- just because many people had their own questions that they didn't find good answers to doesn't mean you won't, and that there won't be many more that you definitely will.

Enjoy the ride, and keep us in the loop -- it's fun reliving the discovery of the story through your experience (and I'm also curious how the series plays as one continuous unit, as opposed to having to agonizingly wait for each week's installment). :-)

Ever finish Lost Frink?  Either way, what did you think?

BTW, I loved the ending to Lost.

I haven't watched since I last posted (blogged?) about it.  Honestly I got distracted by other things in my queue, and also haven't had as much time to watch lately.

I find myself recently missing the journey, missing the mysteries. Not that I would watch the whole thing again, I just miss a quality show that I could discuss endlessly with my friends.

I feel the same way, but I'll probably watch it all over again once I get it on Blu one day.  That won't be for a while anyway.

I've been thinking about diving back into Twin Peaks now that it's on Netflix Instant.  Don't think I could make it through the back half of season 2 again, though...

Actually, if you look at any viewer poll, most people liked or loved the ending. It's just the vocal minority that hated it and continue to complain about it to this day.

Some of its biggest stumbles along the way seems to have been from trying to cater to fans (Jack's tattoo episode, etc.)

Jack's tattoo episode had nothing to do with catering to fans. They wrote that episode because they were spinning their wheels waiting for ABC to allow them a definitive end date. In season 3, you can tell they were dragging their feet because they didn't know if they had 3 more seasons or 6 to tell their story.

Lindelof called up the powers that be at ABC and said, basically, "Look, if you don't let us have an end date to the series, you're going to get more episodes about Jack's tattoo. This show can't go on forever."

Yeah, another example is Whatever the Case May Be from season 1.  ABC just added a few more episodes to the season so they had to come up with some filler, and it's just really obvious and really poorly done.  And then all of a sudden the show just takes off in the middle of season 3 once they have everything decided.  Obvious.

Network pressure has resulted in things the like season 2 jump shark of Twin Peaks, the rearrangement of season 1 of Firefly, season 3's format change of Veronica Mars, etc.  No matter how good a show is or how talented everyone is who's involved in it, to the network, the bottom dollar is the bottom line, and that's all that matters.

Not that I don't believe you, but what polls are you talking about?  My "polls" of my friends, family, neighbours, co-workers, internet commentators, etc. that watched the show (at a variety of depths) was overwhelmingly negative...  maybe 80%.

Ilovelostincludingtheendingofseason6.com running a poll that was overwhelmingly positive wouldn't surprise me.  Neither would I weight it very much.
