Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Edit Suggestions — Page 5

Ok watched the dvd last night and have a few more ideas:

1.) Why can't we cut after Indy askes for a compass to the point where he uses the shotgun shell BB's to find the right crate? That way we NEVER have to see the gunpowder bit.

2.) Music - first of all since this fil strayed so far from the others, I feel like only some of the excellent and familiar music from the OT could reel it back in line. Also, several scenes could use more tension and music could help here. I HATE the kiddy happy music during Mutt's sword fight, why not put in a more thrilling and dangerous piece of music from ROTLA or TOD?

3.) I REALLY want Indy to just punch Mac instead of the "Hi MAC!" goofiness. The commercial made this edit and I love it.

4.) We can cut the vine swinging completely - maybe. Very rarely can you tell that Mutt is not in the jeep during the chase. The last time we see him before the vine thing, he kinda reaches for the windsheild - the first time we see him after the vine he's down on the floor board. If we cut the chase down as done in one of the posted edits.

5.) Cut a LITTLE from the "Hound Dog" sequence in the beginning. I like the scene, but it goes on a bit long.

I'm glad you all liked my edit of the jungle sequence.  It's exciting to see all that can be done with the footage we have available.  I am truly hopeful that a decent movie can be created.

jones1899, I'm going to have to disagree with you on the "Hi MAC" line.  I think this is a classic Indy type remark and it is one of the few interactions with Mac that I enjoyed.  And the fewer "Jonsy's", the better.

InfoDroid, I love dvd artwork and I am very excited to see your edit.

Gunpowder consists of potassium nitrate (saltpeter), charcoal, and sulfur. I know cause I made some in High school chemistry right in front of my clueless teacher. It is not magentic. I like the shotgun thing though and love the hanging lights pointing to the box while Indy is on the crates. One of the few true Spielberg shots in the film. I say we cut from Indy asking for a compass to the scene with the shotgun shells.

I loved the Hound Dog opening as well. Not a must by any means, just think the whole opening lasts a BIT too long. This includes the Indy/Spalko dialog so if we cut that and the gunpowder bit, it would be fine.

Agree about Part time and Not as easy as it used to be lines though. These were better delivered in the trailer.

What are your thoughts on the "Hi, Mac!" before Indy punches Mac. I like the "Jonesy!!" then smack! Indy lays him out. The chase needs less light hearted humor I think. This would make it a bit more rough and tough like Indy should be.

By the way, I've found a way to make my edit of the waterfall-sequence work: As I was missing an establishment shot for the jeep going off the cliff, I had to use the wide-shot of the second drop. This caused a problem, since I was missing that inbetween-shot after the second drop. Looking through the trailers, I've found that the first trailer (not the teaser) opens with an unused wide-shot of the cliff, and that's the one I'm going to use for showing the jeep go over the cliff (adding a digital jeep, a digital version of Spalko's truck and - if possible - digital soldiers and Spalko climbing down the cliff-face).

Nothing to show yet though, as this is only in idea-form right now. My job is keeping me busy for the rest of the week, so there's no tinkering with the fight seen either for the next few days.

Man, with that new establishing shot and the digital soldiers/truck and all, the sequence will flow perfectly!

Hmmm, the trailers/adverts seem like a good source to plunder - some of the alternate takes on scenes (such as the delivery of lines - 'Not as easy as it used to be' and 'Part time' for example) seem to be better in the trailers for some reason; maybe more could be incorporated from them, and the TV spots and such like?

On the waterfall scene, how possible would it be to remove the actual sight of the tree under the jeep as it goes off the cliff? Not a big problem because of the new editing, but could it be removed entirely? In the looking-down-from-above perspective shot of the jeep just as it goes over the cliff - could the tree below the jeep here be replaced with water, so it looks as if there is nothing below the jeep except from the river below - and also in the looking-up-at-the-jeep perspective shot as it is hanging in the air, there are leaves from the tree visible on screen right; could these be digitally removed too?

Damn that wonky CG tree! Tear it outta the film from its roots!

I dare to say, I think I can remove the tree from both shots.

Lol, you must be some sort of wizard Laser. It's the only explanation.

Was listening to the soundtracks for the OT - definitely needthe map room and grail theme and lsave children theme from TOD in here. At least touches of them. Lord knows there's no classic theme in KOTCS. Thoughts?

Do I get you wrong here? Both the ark/map room theme and the grail theme are in KotCS... furthermore the beginning of "Ah, rats!" is quoted somewhere in the warehouse.

Yes, bits of these themes are worked in here and there, but some of the scenes that lack the weight that they need, IMO, could really benefit from some of the moving and familiar music that we love from the OT.

KOTCS for many of us strays a bit too much from the rough and tumble, thrilling, character rich, dangerous, wonderful OT. If we were to add more of the familiar (not TOO much) into key scenes such as the chase/sword fight scene (current music is TOO light hearted), the Akator discovery (grail theme would be cool here), the mushroom clodu and UFO scenes, etc, it would make the 19 year removed family adventure more so an Indiana Jones Film!

Again, I wouldn't want to over do it, but it would help tie them all together.

Just had to register to say PLEASE don't use that picture of Brody. First him with a cigarette in his hand is anything BUT classy. Second it's just not the right picture for that kind of frame. Leave the pics be.

The pictures really should be replaced with a picture of George Lucas in one picture frame and in the other Jar Jar Binks, lol.

Also any shot where Indy holds a gun should be replaced with a walkie talkie.

What type of audio are we looking at for these edits?

Hey, guys, I think it's great that you're doing a KOTCS edit to match the OT. I have one minor detail that I think should be fixed. When Spalko squished the ant between her knees, way too much goo shot out for such a small insect, it looked kinda out of place.

Here's an edit I'd like to see someone put in.

Indy should be dragged out of the car at the beginning FIRST.

It weakens him having him come out second.

I've done a quick edit here to show what I mean

I don't have the time or mad skills to do an entire movie overhaul myself so if anyone likes this change, do please include it in your masterpiece :D

English 5.1 Surround and German 5.1 Surround, as far as I am concerned.

Mh, not sure yet, as right now I don't feel much difference of him being out first or second... him being second at least means, that he had been thrown in first :-P

^ Lol, good point!

Yeah, I agree - I was fine with Indy being thrown out of the car second. Builds up suspense - at this point, we're a good few minutes into the film and Indy is no where in sight, and we're wondering where he is, and even when Mac is thrown out of the car, we're still not 100% sure, until they surprisingly go back and throw out the hat from the car, and then we know what's coming next, and sure enough Indy is revealed, and we get resolution.

So how goes the edit, Laser?

Not at all right now... I've got a deadline on Monday, so I'm working my ass off since last week, including several 24 hour shifts. I hope I can get on it next week.

If Indy gets thrown in first, it implies he was easier to capture. I don't think so!

I went to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, not MacHale and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull! hehe.

It's all good. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Deadlines and 24 hour shifts? Laser, we must be in similar lines of work.

What thoughts do ya'll have on the music of the film?

Also, I did a very (by very I mean VERY!) quick and rough edit to see if we could eliminate the "magnetic" gunpower bit and go straight from Indy asking for a compass to him getting the shotgun shells. Think it works! The gunpowder bit makes no sense (see scientific reasons for this above) but also it's just pointless CGI and we all know the less of that the better.

Yeah, 'Part time' sounds much grittier and more Indy-like in the trailer as well, so it'd be great if this line could be swapped into the edit.
